Part Four (Finale)

(Sans POV)

"W-wait...just let me explain okay? Just hold up..." But they were already sprinting out the door and into the snow storm. "WAIT! FRISK!"
"Damnit!" I ran faster, following their footsteps.

(Frisk)
You don't get it. All your life, you've been crowded by bad people. You wonder if Flowey is right.  Are you to naive? ...You were scared.  You were...just another soul everyone craved.
You ran. You ran until you tripped over something, a root? You looked up from the snow and gasped.
"T-Toriel's door....I-I had wanted t-to call her mom...b-but Chara wanted to k-kill her...did sh-she want my soul to? Was everything a big fat lie?"
"Howdy. Frisk, was it? Or at least it's what Smiley Trash bag says. So...you understand now. Monsters were banished down here for a very good reason. Delicious invite isn't it? Hehehe. Doesn't help that Smiley Trash Bag showed his true colours does it? Why aren't you speaking, don't you know how to make a deal? We can make this world right...together partner. I'll protect you from him, from everyone, and...we'll be safe together...partner."
"Frisk! Frisk! P-please kid you'll die out here! And that isn't any punchline!"
"Let me help you...we'll destroy this world, him included."
Sans appeared at the edge of the hill, barely in your line of sight. You were scared.
"FRISK!"
"I know your scared of smiley trash bag, I can feel it."
"...Kid...?"
"No. Not now not ever."
"No..?"
"You're just another liar."
Sans lifted up Flowey with his magic. You put your head into your lap, shaking slightly.
"Hey! Unhand me comedian!"
"I won't do to anyone what has been done to me. Especially not by you."

(Sans POV)

Oh-ho-ho, I really wanted to kill the weed, but with Frisk right in front of me...no. I brought the weed close to my face.
"Leave. NOW."
"Fine, TRASH."
I walked to the kid, they backed up further until their back hit the door to the ruins. I stopped a couple feet away from them and squatted down.
"Are you okay kid? I heard what he said, some of it. It was pretty cool you refused."
Frisk put their head back on their knees, and sighed.
"It doesn't matter. I'd want to die how I am right now."
I huffed, "I'm not gonna kill you, ya know."
"And I should believe you?"
"...I'm gonna guess that you didn't read much on souls didja (did ya)?"
"Who reads when their being possessed?"
I scratched the back of my neck, awkwardly. "Hehe, good point. Look, I know that you must be...a little bit scared, confused even about the stuff you cant really...understand....or even unfamiliar to you. But...uh, the thing is...something scary (me) can just be...misunderstood, just like you Frisk. Not that I'm blaming you for what happened...but, I mean, I guess I'm asking you to understand the unfamiliar, kiddo...hell knows I did."
"But, how do I know that what ever you're gonna tell me, isn't going to be a lie?"
"Heh, I knew you probably wouldn't take my word for it...guess it's a good thing I decided to bring this along with me," I handed Frisk the book that I had brought about souls.
"A book?"
"It explains about the souls and circumstances like these. I can't absorb monster souls...humans can't with their own. I'm just...tryin' to keep 'em alive, ya know? Please kid, you can read it later, it's freezing and it's getting dark...I won't hurt you baby bones, believe me I've learned my lesson." I stuck my hand out for them, and they slightly touched it.
"You promise?"
"I promise" They took my hand, fully. I helped them up, and lead them to my house.
After we got to my house, I gave them Papy's bed, it was nice to have someone else here. Maybe I'm not sure that the kid was okay, but they needed the sleep so badly. So I guess I wasn't expecting to be woken up.
"...Sans...?"
"Huh?"  They stood in the door way, holding the book about souls in their hands. "What's up kid?"
"W-well, I was reading this book...but i-it has a lot of big words..."
"Yeah, okay, c'mere buddy."
"O-okay"
I had heard this excuse before, back when Pap and I were small. He would say that his books were 'hard to read'.  What it really meant was 'I had a nightmare and I don't want to be alone'.
So, I played along, we went through the book, and Fisk had some trouble, but I mean, they're seven, what're ya gonna do about it? Anyway, back on track, the kid didn't come here just because of a nightmare...
"U-uh, Sans? C-could I see the souls again?"
"H-huh? Are you sure? I mean...from earlier..."
"Well, n-no...I-I mean yes, but I...I...I'm so...I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For running away...I was just s-scared...and I didn't want to listen to what you had to s-say, c-cuz..."
"...Hey, it's okay you know? As long as you're not hurt...Welp, you wanted to see 'em, right?" I lifted up my jacket...the faint cyan glow reflecting in their eyes, which were widening as we speak.
"...They..."
"Hey, wait, kiddo, you okay? You seem a little bit...uh..."
"I....I did this to them...I did..."
H o l y  S h i t
My eyes widened, I immediately hugged them and stroked their head as they sobbed.
"What--no! No you didn't do this kiddo, I did"
"But I hurt them really bad...but, I promise, I'm gonna save them too."
"...Yeah?"
"*sniff* yeah, and I'm gonna do what I can to make it up to them...to help them."
I noticed something different in that moment.
"Then tomorrow we'll go down to the lab in my basement, there's something I want to show you."
Then I understood exactly what it was, their determination came back.

"For a while, kiddo, the machine hasn't been working. I thought, maybe it needed dust to collect since we're all pretty much dust...then I got to thinking. Back before the war, monsters and humans relied on each other. Humans, for their determination, and monsters for their magic. This machine is one of the many results of that cooperation. So...this machine needs your determination to get started, but from there it can duplicate the dust inside to recreate a body.  All you have to do is offer the souls your love...you know which one I mean. Whatcha' say? Are you ready to bring them home?"
"Yeah, I'm...um...a little bit nervous."
"Oh? Why is that?"
"..."
"...Frisk"
"I hurt them Sans. What if, ya know, they want to return the favour? I wouldn't stop them, but I wish...I wish I could just tell them."
"Hey kid," I bent down to their level and hugged them. "Now why would I let something like that go?" I planted a kiss on their forehead, "I made a promise kid, I won't break it."
Using my magic, I lifted the sheet off the machine. "Now, let's undo Chara's big mess, shall we?"
"Yeah!"

The machine glowed a faint orange. We put Papyrus's dust and soul in first (no duh). I watched as the machine glowed brighter, Fisk saying encouraging words to him.
"C'mon! Come home! I believe in you! Please come home...for Sans!" A figure tapped on the glass, it looked like Papyrus. "Yeah! You're almost there Pappy! Just a little bit further!"
"I-is that?"
"S-SANS...? HUMAN?"
"...Papyrus..."
The door to the machine opened, revealing Papyrus.
"ER...WELL I GUESS I CAN'T BLAME YOU NOW FOR YOUR LAZINESS...CAN I?"
"PAP!" I ran and tackled him in a hug.
"SANS! HUMAN! I'M SO GLAD THAT YOU ARE SAFE! THE GREAT PAPYRUS WOULD NOT STAND FOR ANYTHING ELSE! AND HUMAN, YOU HAVE MY COOL SCARF! SEE? I KNEW YOU COULD DO BETTER!"
"Papyrus...bro..."
"SANS...I MISSED YOU, EVEN IF I WAS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU....I MISSED YOUR STUPID PUNS...I MISSED YOU SMILING...BUT AT LEAST YOUR LAZY BONES DID A JOB THAT ISN'T HALF-AS....OH, RIGHT TINY HUMAN...ER....I MEAN....A JOB THAT'S NOT HALF-DONE FOR ONCE!"
"Hehehe, just shuddup and hug me Pap."
"NYEH?"
I had my brother back...now it was time for everyone else.
I was really surprised to find that unlike Fisk, the other souls were conscious the whole time. They heard and saw everything I did...everything...
I guess that's the difference between humans and monsters, heh...

After we 'saved' everyone, we decided to give King Asgore a visit. So walking through judgement hall....felt good for once. Maybe cuz like Gaster said, I was in good company...but, eh, the feeling didn't last, because honestly, there was still someone who hadn't bit the dust.
Scratch that two people...who somehow got their hands on the souls. The determination of the demon and the body of the flower. But, tibia honest, it wasn't something we hadn't considered -- at least between Frisk and I.

After defeating the duo, we got to the surface, and though we made it, not everyone was as trusting as Undyne, Alphys, Mettaton, Toriel, Papyrus, Monster Kid and I, but hey, whatchagonnado?

But, through time...we all recovered to face a new world.

A/N

Thank you guys so much for reading and supporting my story! I tried to make it as close to the comic as I could, but I would love to thank the author of the Comic for their story, it gave me inspiration to write this. I will be coming out with an ORIGINAL story soon, it will be called 'Truth be Told' and has a very interesting plot if you ask me. Any way, thank y'all so much for reading!

Adios!
