Chapter 8

So we left off where again? Oh wait, nevermind, I remember now.

Ara was actually quite shocked at her own actions. She usually didn't retaliate in such an manner when she was angry but Add had given her a good reason for it. Perhaps Ara should have told him that she wasn't heading back to the burrow and was trying to save his life. Maybe she should have just hit him to begin with for leaving after she had begged for him not to. Ara did not beg for anything, ever.

Ara thought over this as she dragged Add's unconscious body along. Her head hurt like hell thanks to that stupid rock that she happened to fall onto when Add caused her to fall. The bleeding had stopped but the excruciating headache refused to fade away. "You know, I can help with that headache of yours." Ara didn't respond, already knowing who it was that had spoken. She had put Eun's hairpin in her hair before leaving to find Add.

"Why didn't you tell me he left. You should have known. Your familiars were watching him the whole time," Ara said referring to the three foxes that turned out to be nothing more than fox spirits send by Eun. "Before you catch an attitude there, might I bring up the fact that you're borrowing some of my power right now to keep yourself going?" Eun said. "I am not. I never even asked for your power and I don't even know how to use it," Ara growled as she trudged on.

"Well you sure didn't seem like it a moment ago when you got angry at the albino boy. In your blind fit of anger, you swiped my power without knowing it. You didn't eben get a good fraction of it so none of my traits appeared except my signature red face markings. Oh, your eyes might have held a bit of fierceness too," Eun ranted. Ara had stopled listening though. She stopped to survey their surroundings seeing that the city was nowhere in sight.

"Ara, the albino boy. You should check on him," Eun suggested. "Stop calling him that. His name is Add," Ara muttered as she knelt down next to him. She checked his pusle finding that it was rather weak. Ara muttered a false curse as she dropped her bag and Dynamo who was attached to it and took off the coat that she was wearing. "I knew I should have given you this before now," Ara said, scolding herself.

She pulled Add to her, doing her best to wrap him in the coat. Even though Ara herslef was cold, Add was colder and Ara blamed herself for not keeping watch over him knowing that he wanted to leave and expose himself to such harsh conditions. "Eun, that city, how far away is it?!" Ara asked, desperation starting to show up in her voice. "You are almost there but if you don't hurry, your friend won't make it there," Eun said with complete seriousness unlike her earlier playful attitude.

"Lend me your strength then. I need to get him there quickly," Ara said. "I'm afraid I can't do that without risking your own life. Your physical limitations are already being tried by this weather and you aren't mentally prepared for me to force my power to you. The sheer force of it will knock you unconscious much like our first two meetings," Eun said. "But he'll die," Ara said. "And so would you," Eun warned.

Ara didn't just sit there and waste time though. She picked up the bag and slung it over on shoulder after and continued to pull Add along once again. "I don't intended to worry you any further but the boy's condition is worsening. I can take control over you while you are unconscious but it will leave some undesirable side effects. Do not just carelessly accept this offer. Think for a bit," Eun said when Ara had to stop again from fatigue. She checked Add's pulse again almost having a heart attack when she almost couldn't find it.

"I don't care what happens to me. I can't let anyone else die on my watch. Just get us to that city before he dies, please," Ara pleaded. "Very well then. I shall carry out you request," Eun said. Ara suddenly felt a rush of energy but soon after, her mind went blank. Her senses faded and she no longer felt the harsh weather's effects. For a moment she felt at peace. All of her worries vanished and she found herself feeling quite free.

Just as soon as they vanished, her worries and senses came crashing down onto her again and she felt extremely tired beyond what she was used to. One thing Ara did notice was that she was warm, overwhelmingly warm. Instead of simply waking up to take in her new surroundings, Ara stayed still, enjoying the comfort that she found herself in since she didn't have the energy to get up anyway. Then she began to hear the voices.

"Yeah, that one had tails but they're gone now. Her hair was white too but it isn't anymore. I dont know what she is but she could be dangerous. It seems to me like they're travelers or maybe even fugitives. I didn't do anything because you weren't here but now that you are, should we alert the Red Knights? They would know about them wouldn't they...if they are fugitives that is," someone was saying not to far away from where Ara lay.

"What were you thinking bringing them here?! If they really are fugitives, then the Red Knights will think we were helping them! And not just them, the Hamel guards will want to be notified before the Red Knights are involved," a different person said. "I'm sorry, I just...they needed my help. They were going to die if I didn't do anything," the same voice from earlier said. Ara heard a sigh, guessing it was from the one who seemed to have a problem with her and Add being there.

"I'm going to go and get the Hamel guards and have them handed over to the military. If they aren't fugitives then they should be fine. If they are, I'm sure the Hamel military can handled them until the Red Knights get here," the person said. It was then that Ara found her strength to be sufficient enough to move again. She slowly sat up opening her eyes and adjusting them to the light.

As she tried to reach up and rub her eyes, she found that one of her wrist was securely tied with rope that allowed her to move but kept her from leaving unless she cut the rope or untied it. The two people that had been talking snapped their heads in her direction with surprise etched into their expressions. Ara did not care. She needed to know where Add was since he didn't seem to be near her. She was likely in the living area of what was probably a small home.

"Add, where is he? Is he okay?" Ara asked, not caring about the current situation she found herself in. "Whoa, your voice is different too," the younger one, no older that seventeen and likely the first speaker, said aloud. "Who is Add?" the other said who was much older and held a stern expression. "I brought him with me didn't I? He's okay right?" Ara asked.

"Oh, him. So his name is Add. Yeah, he's okay for now. You're lucky you got help in time," the seventeen year old looking boy said. The older male nudged him in the side as if telling him to shut up. "What were you two doing out in that cold anyway? No sane person would be out in that unforgiving cold," the guys said. "It's hard to explain. Please, can I just see Add. I need to make sure he's okay," Ara said. "Not until you explain yourself. We don't harbor fugitives," the guy said causing Ara to frown.

"I don't think you should upset her. She might turn on us. I told you she had tails when she got here," the boy whispered but he was hopelessly bad at it and Ara heard every word. "Christo, shut up," the older man hissed. The boy, who must have been Christo, flinched and stayed quiet. "I promise I'll tell you what you need to know as soon as I see Add. I don't know if I can trust you two or not. You seem to be pondering whether or not my life was worth saving," Ara said, attempting to appeal to their conscious.

The older man glared at her but Christo looked at her almost with pity. "She promised. It's not like she'll want to go back out into the cold or anything," Christo muttered, his gaze avoiding the other guy. He sighed and pushed Christo forward a bit, not to be mean but as a gesture. Christo seemed pleased by this and went over to free Ara. "Follow me. He's in here but he isn't awake yet," Christo said. Ara didn't hesitate to follow him into one of the rooms. Sure enough, Add was there and still very much so alive.

"Your things are over there. I didn't look through them, I promise," Christo said as he began to leave the room. Ara thanked him and made her way to where Add lay either asleep, out cold from Ara's punch, or unconscious because of the cold. It could have been all three for all Ara knew. She was just relived that he was okay. "Child, you are in danger!" Eun suddenly warned. Without warning, Ara found herself moving to the side and catching hold of a wooden beam that would have hit her in the head had it not been for her body's forced movement.

Ara hadn't done it herself so she concluded that it had to have been Eun. Holding the wooden beam was none other than the older guy who seemed surprised by Ara's, well technically Eun's, quick reflexes. Anger filled Ara's mind but she did not act on it just yet. "Eun, take over for me. I think your presence in place of mine will teach this man a lesson," Ara thought. Just as before, her mind faded away and she found herself free of worry once more.
