Chapter 32

It seems that things are about to get slightly disturbing...

Time was something Add had long since lost track of. He didn't know what time of day it was nor did he know how many days it had been. All he knew was that he was in pain and he wanted to escape. He was still stuck to the experimentation table and his wrists were bleeding from his countless tries at freeing himself. Apple had been forced to treat his wrist wounds saying that she couldn't have him dying before the experimentation was over.

Add longed for the light of the sun or even Ara's touch or voice. He longed for freedom and the pride that he'd temporarily lost because of the things they'd done to him. "Add, are you awake?" he heard Dynamo ask. He had begun to hate the little nasod servant. "I know you aren't asleep. Open your eyes for a bit," Dynamo said but Add igored him. It was something he was becoming great at doing. Add felt himself being zapped with electrical voltage but at this point, it didn't even hurt him and only stinged a bit. Despite that, he still winced and slowly opened his eyes to see Dynamo floating above him, looking down at him in that same condescending way.

"The injection portion of your treatment has been concluded as a failure. Apple was unable to recreate the liquid catalyst needed for you to become the weapon your father wanted to make you into. However, this does not mean that your experimentation has been completed. You will be tested on your mind processes and problem solving ability today. That is all," Dynamo said before leaving. It's not like Add was really listening anyway.

He was searching his mind for more of the tunes that his mother used to hum when he was a child as they sat in various meadows. He missed her as well and fervently wished that he could return to her whether she would care to see him or not. The tune that he now had going through his head only increased that desire but it did keep him calm. He suddenly wanted to go to sleep but he wouldn't dare make such a mistake. Whenever he fell asleep, Apple made sure to do some sort of test on him which he hated. This kept him sleep deprived and always on edge.

Several times, his nasod weapons had been brought into the room to see how he made them work but he refused to comply. Even now, he could feel them nearby and knew that they were constantly powered on. They were directly connected to him so it wouldn't be a surprise to Add to find out that Apple studied them to see how they reacted to Add's pain or other emotions and thoughts. The door to the room opened but Add didn't care to see who it was that had entered.

A pleasant scent found its way to him and he immediately recognized this scent to be food. He didn't dare react though no matter how much he wanted to. He was usually force fed and he hated that as well. The door reopened and closed, leaving Add in the room alone with the taunting smell of food nearby. He was thoroughly shocked when the metal bands retraining him suddenly snapped open. For a moment, he was confused and his mind didn't complety register that he was technically sort of freed.

Slowly, Add sat up, wincing a bit at his bleeding wrists as he did so. He was able to look around the room from a different perspective for the first time and it was then that he saw the food and nasod parts sitting there waiting for him on a nearby counter but he was skeptical about it and suspicious. What would they do to him if he moved any further? Why were they setting him free of the experimentation table? Were they trying to poison him with the food and watch his reaction? Why were there nasod parts on the table?

"I'm not surprised that you haven't moved any more than that. You're overly cautious you know. All I want you to do today is create a functioning nasod structure using those parts over there. You have been provided with the basic human necessities so that you can keep working until you finish. If I see you slacking off too much, I won't hesitate to fill this room with a sleeping gas and strap you back to that table. I'm sure you don't want that so I suggest you go ahead and get started or at least eat something. Humans tend not to like cold food. Plus it's something you're familiar with. We were able to recreate it with the help of Dynamo's limited memories. I believe he said it was kimchi and green tea although I don't know what that is. Good luck," Apple's voice said from the speaker system in the room.

There was a glass window pane that Add could not see through but he was sure that he was being watched and he didn't like that feeling. The thought of kimchi did motivate him though. He couldn't lie about his love for Ara's cooking but then he realized that it wasn't Ara's cooking and could be potentially fatal since these crazy nasods could be trying to poison him. With a sigh, Add carefully got down from the table, nearly falling for he had not walked in a while.

Not wanting his every move to be closely monitored, he picked up the small bowl of food and cup of green tea only to sit it on the floor behind the experimentation table which was nothing more than a solid block of metal. He hated the damn thing. He also sat the nasod parts next to him although he didn't feel like doing anything as complicated as inventing or building. Not really wanting to ruin his view of kimchi, Add decided to only drink the green tea. His reasoning being that if he were to die, just let him go ahead and die then rather than finding himself wanting to drink the tea later only to be killed.

Paradox would reset the timeline if he died anyway right....or at least Add hoped so. He would gladly take the opportunity to remove this entire event from time. Add tasted the tea, a little surprised that it wasn't bad, and waited for any side effects. There were none so he deemed the tea safe enough to drink and began to sparate the set of parts that lay before him. It brought back unpleasant memories of his father's relentless drills and made Add shudder a little at the thought of them.

He visualized the virtual screens that only he could see and they appeared before his eyes, easily identifying the parts that lay in front of him. There was information stored in Add's head about each one and he had instant access to this knowledge thanks to the craziness he went through as a child. Easily identifying the supposed power source, Add began to place things in various ways, attempting to visualize something, anything to build just to get things over with but his mind wouldn't let him.

It opposed his actions and only made him more fustrated with his current situation. After a few more tries, he gave up, tossing aside the parts and finishing off his tea in an attempt to ease his mind. He didn't really care what happened to him at that point...or so he thought. "Add. Listen very well to what I'm about to tell you," a voice that Add knew was not Apple's said on the speaker system. It was actually Eve that spoke and it shocked him because Eve had not spoken to him since his arrival in the sand arena against her new nasods.

"You are of no use to me now that it has been confirmed that Dynamo cannot impliment the codes necessary to turn you into a weapon. With that being said, I have no choice but to exterminate you. Humans of your intellect are a danger to nasod society and I can't allow you to escape. My father would have probably liked to meet you. I'm truly sorry for this although part of me says that I'm not. You'll go to good use so don't worry. Apple wishes to study what exaclty a human is made of and hasn't gotten the permission to use a human subject until now. You are at her mercy," Eve said.

When she finished her words, Add panicked. Apple wasn't just going to simply kill him. Add had been studying her patterns and thought processes. There wasn't even a 1% chance that she'd just kill him. No, she would put him through a true nightmare. A hell that Add never wanted to experience. The door opened, revealing Apple and her servants. "Charon, Persephone. Seize him," Apple ordered.

Seeing the unusual flash of emotion in Apple's nasod eyes truly scared Add for Apple had never seemed to enjoy her experimentation on him up until that moment. A sickening fear overwhelmed Add as he tried to escape capture only to fall prey to the nasods that were ordered to capture him. Even after being held down to the experimentation table, Add didn't stop fighting. His life was in danger and despite him carelessly thinking thatbhe should just die moments earlier, he very much so wanted to live.

"Don't worry. I just need your core for now. I'll put it back once I'm done," Apple said as if she could just rip his heart out and put it back like it wasn't a problem. It was then that Add realized the true horror of the situation. Apple didn't realize just how different humans were from nasods but Eve certainly did. Apple probably did believe that she could take Add's core, basically his heart, and then replace it. She didn't know that he'd stay dead did she? Just how many nasods had she done this to?

"And if you run out of that red fuel stuff, I can just replace it. I've got plenty of it stored up from the unfortunate trespassers that Eve decided to have executed so don't worry. You're in good hands. It might hurt for a little bit, but once the pain is over, you'll get to sleep until I put you back together," Apple said as she rummaged through a compartment in the nearby counter. "No! Let me go! You don't understand!" Add yelped as he still attempted to break free.

Tears streamed down his face as he began losing hope. "You're right. I don't understand which is why I'm doing this. If I can understand how you work then maybe I can save the little ones that always end up getting sick and stop moving," Apple said as she pulled out a tool that Add could only describe as a truly terrifying object. Apple power the device on, its sound driving Add to the point of snapoing right then and there. Who the hell needs a death drill for something like this?!

In his mind, he constantly screamed for salvation, for safety from this crazy nasod lady. "Sleep tight," Apple said which was the last thing needed to send Add over the edge. The one way view glass suddenly shattered to pieces as six very unfamiliar looking floating objects crashed into the room and headed trait for Apple's core. A strait shot was all it took and the nasod princess fell backward and unmoving on the ground. The objects didn't hesitate to take down her servants either, giving them six matching holes.

Add was released from their grip as they fell limp and he immediately got down from the experimentation table and backed himself into a corner across from the door. Add could barely breathe, his body in shock and not sure what to do as he slid down the wall and curled in on himself. He held a hand over his aching heart, unable to stop himself from shaking. The involuntary movement reminded him "you're alive. Don't forget that" and he slowly began to calm down.

He looked up at the floating object that had saved his life, finally realizing that these were his dynamos. They were different though, upgraded in a way, and Add wondered how this had come to be. Their design and coloring were different than what they once were. "Apple!" Add heard someone call. Moments later, Eve stood at the broken glass in shock. She spotted Add, the onlynone living among those in the room.

"Kill him! I order you all to kill him!" Eve said, specifically referring to the Code: Track_01 nasods that surrounded her. The moment the nasods entered the room, Add's mind clouded with blood lust and the will to live. His dynamos made quick work of the nasods despite him not even being able to see them. They became visible, all of them falling to contribute to the nasods already littering the floor.

Eve stood there frozen with a look of shock on her face and began to slowly back away. Add didn't know why but he couldn't move from his spot. He stayed there in the corner, shaking and broken, waiting for someone familiar to save him from the depths of his mind for he found himself slowly sinking into his thoughts and if he stayed that way, he would certainly drown.
