Chapter 28

I don't seem to have a note this time but if you guys have any questions, just let me know.

He woke up with a pretty bad headache, unsure of why his head hurt so badly when he'd been almost certain he'd had a peacful, uninterrupted sleep. Then he noticed that he was extra warm and saw strands of black hair blocking his vision. "Ara...why does this keep happening?" he tiredly muttered as he woke her. She was resting her head just below his neck and probably hadn't realized that she'd turned towards him in her sleep.

"Morning already? But I don't like mornings...so tired," Ara whinned. It was then that Add realized a very important detail about his whereabouts. "Ara, when did we switch sides? I could have sworn you'd taken the side away from the door," Add asked as Ara sat up, looked around a bit, and flopped back onto the bed pulling the covers over her head. "Ara, I'm serious," Add said as he nudged Ara a bit. She growled, and I mean she literally growled, which caused Add to raise an eyebrow but he said nothing and gave up on his attempt to wake Ara. She'd get up in time enough for the mission anyway.

He sighed before he got out of bed and searched for what he'd wear that day. He had been given a new set of clothes that he was very reluctant to wear but his previous and most loved outfit had not been washed so he was forced into wearing something new. He would certainly miss the white cat hooded jacket and the black and purple shirt that held his family symbol on it. He loved that symbol and so did his mother. It meant a lot to them both.

"Ara, I'm heading out. Don't be too late getting up or we'll have to leave you behind and go on this mission ourselves," Add said as he picked up the new set of clothes. Ara replied with a muffled "ok" before he left so he could change. The clothes were simple and sort of tight fitting consisting of a black t-shirt, a white and black jacket, and black pants with white stipes going horizontally across the bottom.

Add huffed in annoyance at the difference in comfort that they provided, his own clothes being far better and could outrank his current outfit any day. Once changed, Add headed downstairs where he found the dinning hall already filled with members of the Crow Mercenaries. Add spotted Owen sitting alone at the table he was at yesterday. He seemed a bit distraught. "What's up with you?" Add asked as he sat across from him. Owen was a bit startled by his sudden appearance.

"Oh, hello Add. I um, I'm sort of unsure of how this mission will go. You see...well, can you keep a secret for me?" Owen said. Add just stared at him feeling a bit awkward and unsure of how he should handle the situation. "Sure...I don't see why not?" Add said as he rested his head on the table. Owen seemed to relax a bit, probably noticing Add's chill attitude. "Raven and Seris and the others, they keep saying they remember everything that's happened but I don't see how. They know everything that's happened in the past and yet no matter how hard I try, I can't remember a thing. I don't want to tell them because I don't know how they'll react," Owen said.

"Tell who what?" a familiar voice said. Owen flinched and his expression showed slight fear as his face flushed red. "Nothing major. Owen just needed to get some things off his mind," Add said to Ara who had joined them. Owen realized that it was just her and calmed down but not before Ara could notice his panicked state. "You okay Owen? You seem a bit...stressed?" Ara said, unsure of what to think of Owen's temporary flight or fright moment. Yes, it seemed as though Owen was not the type to stick around when things got tough nevertheless he was in a group with Raven and happened to be among the greatest fighters among the Crow Mercenaries.

"I'm fine. Just a bit worried about today's mission," he said quietly as he stared down at the table. Just as Ara sat down, the same Pongo from the other day brought them all plates and again Add and Ara showed their gratitude, completely forgetting what Seris had told them about doing so. The little fury apron wearing Pongo gave them a slight nod and smiled at them before leaving. Breakfast was a little unusual but perhaps Add was being a bit too expecting.

Owen took them to Raven's tent afterwards where they met up with everyone else, including Barton, so that they could discuss how they would go about taking down Eve's new nasods that were specifically created to hunt down members of the Crow Mercenaries or just humans in general. Add would have to take care of security and bypass a lot of codes but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He was more worried about Ara though.

She seemed a bit tired but Add had been sure she'd went to sleep early along with him. What if she was sick? The cold wasn't as bad underground but maybe Ara had still caught something. "We head out in fifteen. Are there any questions?" Raven was saying. No one said anything so he dismissed everyone. Black Crow, the supposed name of Raven's particular group, were teaming up with a few other members to sneak into Altera castle during Eve's speech.

They were to integrate within the crowd or be prepared to take out Eve's new tracking nasods. Add and Ara were going to be on the front lines with Ara fighting with Eun's destructive power and Add using his knowledge on coding to hack the castle interface and get them in unnoticed as much as he could. "Hey, you okay? You look stressed. I'm sorry for waking you last night. You probably needed that sleep. Next time I'll train during the day," Ara said to him as she walked next to him.

They were heading strait to the transportation shuttle so that they'd be ready to go. "I'm fine Ara and you didn't wake me. I'm curious as to how we ended up switching spots though," Add muttered. Ara gave him quite a strange look as though she wanted to say something but then she frowned and kept quiet. They got to where the transportation shuttles were being loaded and they found themselves a pair of seats on one side of the shuttle. The other side remained empty and the two other seats on their side were empty as well.

"Guess we just wait here for now," Add muttered with a yawn. There were a few people outside loading the storage space of the shuttle with weapons and other useful tools. "Well at least we have seats this time. Wouldn't want to have to sit in the back of one of those other ones again," Ara said. Add's thoughts suddenly wandered back to when he and Ara had first arrived to the undergound city in the back of a transportation unit. He found himself deeply blushing as he held his head down out of embarrassment.

Of course, Ara took notice of his actions and laughed a bit. "Now that I think about it, I don't think you would mind too much would you?" Ara teased which only made more heat rise to Add's face. "Please don't bring that up," Add whinned to which Ara replied with laughter. Just as her laughter died down, Owen entered and found a seat next to Add leaving one more on their side. The other members of the Black Crow followed soon after, all four sitting on the opposite side.

"You two ready for your first mission with us?" Seris asked as the shuttle began to move. "I'm a bit tired but I'm most definitely suitable for a good fight against even the toughest opponents in my condition," Ara stated rather proudly. Was it just Add or did Ara's answer low key sound like a threat of sorts. Seris gave a smile and nodded in approval. She, Fred, and Zohan all seemed excited for the mission while Owen was rather nervous. Barton of course was still being salty but Raven was completely unreadable.

It bothered Add just a bit but he didn't let himself get stuck on the matter. Instead he focused on other things. "Um, Add, you okay? You're a bit shaded over there," Seris said with a slight tilting of her head. Ara immediately let out a giggle already realizing what Seris had noticed. "I'm perfectly fine," Add nearly snapped as he lowered his head even more. Luckily everyone remained silent for the rest of the ride and Add was able to focus on other things as well such as how he would need to improvise quite a bit without the proper equipment to hack a mainframe.

The transportation shuttle came to a halt and Raven stood, leading the group outside. They'd need to walk from where they were. Apparently thete was a secret path that Proto had made sure was safe for them to take. She'd even gone as far as sending the patrol schedule to them so they knew when and where each one would be and for how long. No one said a word as they, along with the other two groups, made their way along flat terrain.

It was explained earlier during the meeting that Add wasn't paying attention to that Proto had shut down a section of the nasod sensors so that they could sneak past unscaved. Since Add did not know this, because he could have cared less about the meeting, he wondered why the nasods were being so stupid and not noticing them but he remained silent and kept his thoughts to himself.

They made it within the outer wall of the city where they stood near a disactivated ventilation system where searing hot steam would have burned them had Proto not taken measures to turn that off as well. Raven pulled the bars off of the opening and went on inside. Only the members of the Black Crow team along with Add and Ara would be going in this way. The other Crow Mercenaries would be infiltrating the crowd with their nasod masks and false nasod life signal beacons to easily hide them among the real nasods.

They reclosed the ventilation system hatch after Ara who was the last one to enter. The vent was large snough for them to walk in but they had to duck down a bit. Add didn't mind since he wasn't getting any of his clothes, no matter how much he despised their design, dirty or wet. "Alright Ara, you're up," Raven announced as they stepped into a larger area. There were three different directions they could go but only Eun could point them down the correct path with her superior senses.

Ara nodded and made her way to the front before erupting into Eun's power. She had three tails, the lowest amount of Eun's power was being used. "The path you humans wish to go along is to the right. I sense far more movement in that direction and the slight cheers if the nasod citizens. I bet their queen has began her speech and is showing off her new tracking nasods," Eun said.

Add wasn't really startled by Ara's sudden switch but the others seemed to be. Owen in particular backed up a bit and Barton had flinched when Eun spoke through Ara. "Right. Continue leading the way. We'll need your help um...Eun," Raven said with a nod. Eun smirked a bit before turning right and leading them the rest of the way. They found themselves right under a different opening and they could now clearly hear the noise that Eun had earlier referred to.

"I'll take care of this one," Eun said. "But we don't want to break it. Eve will know how we got in," Raven said. "Who told you I'd break it? All I did was say I'd take care of this one," Eun said, sounding a bit offended. She took hold of the bars of their exit and pulled down on it until it fell. Eun quickly changed positions and caught the falling vent hatch while sticking the landing. "See. I didn't break it," Eun said before she leaped out of the vent with Ara's signature double jumping ability.

Everyone else followed and exited the vent system. They were in some sort of factory-like room with plenty of turning gears and a pannel on the only door present that likely led out of where they were. "Looks like it's my turn," Add muttered, a bit reluctant to have to do something as simple as opening a door but he sort of had no choice since he'd come this far. He went over to the pannel and placed his hand on it, gathering the information he needed.

In an instant, various information ran through his mind and flashed before his eyes. Then a pair of holographic screens showed up that came from the special device Add had around his wrist. He began scrolling through a few things, switching codes and replacing them all while referencing some of the information that floated around him. He had long since figured out that thanks to Dynamo forcing all of that information into his head and attempting to activate his father's intended plan, he was able to cast equations and other useful information from his mind and into the air around him. His eyes weren't exactly normal anymore and the power symbol within them glowed whenever he did this.

"Alright. Done. We shouldn't have a problem with anymore doors for a while. I've added an activation code that allows me to open them with ease," Add said as he removed his hand from the pannel with the door now open. "Good. Let's get going. We need to get to the place where those nasod trackers are being temporarily held. There's a spot in the underpalace factory whete Eve tells her workers to put the new nasods that she wants to show off. They'll be one a platform and will be lifted up into the area where you two were earlier when she almost had you executed. We need to find them before that happens and destroy them or at least render them useless," Raven said for the...how many times had he already explained their missiom again? Add was sort of tired of it.

"Let's get going then," Add said as Raven began leading the way again with Ara having returned. Just as they all entered the room, nasods that were obviously the fighting kind and a few scouts appeared from behind various places. "You've got to be kiding me," Add muttered. "One of them is new. I've never seen that type of nasod before even in our past attempts. It must be one of Eve's human trackers!" Fred said after spotting this particular nasod. The nasod focused on them and it had quite the humanoid appearance...that was until it went invisible.
