Chapter 22

I find it entertaining to write this because I got back over it and read it when I'm done sometimes.

The flashback came the very moment Ara left his side a second time. He hated this flashback and he wished that he could stop Ara but he was frozen in place as he remembered what his mother had done for him when they were last in Altera. Ara was about to do the same thing and Add already knew that things weren't going to end very well especially at Eve's mercy. She hated humans, all except her father, which had baffled Add when he'd first found out.

"Do you know what it is that you've done?! How dare you appear before me after the crimes you've committed!" Eve had yelled as Add stood behind his mother, Grace, who was protecting him. He was somewhat in the wrong this time but Grace didn't care. "He's only but a child. Please, don't hold him accountable for his actions," Grace said. "You and I both know that this child of yours has more than enough intellect to be able to tell that what he did was wrong. He is to suffer the consequences of his actions and you are to be banished from Altera," Eve said. "Your majesty please, he's my only son! I've already lost my husband. Let me take my son away from here and I promise that we'll never return," Gace pleaded.

"You've had your chances Grace. I'm being nice enough to spare you but your son must not be spared for his crimes...unless you were to convince me otherwise," Eve said. All the while Add had been hiding behind his mother, not regretting a single thing. Dynamo had been there as well but he had not been permitted to speak in the queen's presence. Add watched in shock as his mother got down on her knees and bowed to Eve. "Please, I beg of you. Spare my son and I. I apologize for the both of us and if I have to, I'll take the blame but please don't harm my son, he's all I have left," Grace had said. Add didn't want her to apologize though and he most certainly didn't want his mother to cry as she did so.

It was already bad enough that his mother had to do something like that but now it was Ara. Ara had already gone through enough humiliation in her life especially with her siblings always picking on and targeting her so it only made things worse for Add as he watched her beg on his behalf. "What is your name, girl?" Eve asked. Ara didn't even raise her head as she answered. Add was speechless though, still shocked that Ara would humiliate herself for his sake.

"That's a nice name. You are important to Add I assume or else he wouldn't have brought you along with him. Why should I actually go against my rules and let him live. My subjects were expecting an execution," Eve said. "Your majesty, with all due respect, you asked that I beg on his behalf so I am. I beg that you let him go and release him of the charges that you claim he has," Ara said all while staying submissive to the queen. Add shook his head though, almost angered that Eve would have Ara continue to beg. "You're submissiveness is much appreciated Ara. I will show mercy and allow Add to be freed of his crimes and charges," Eve said.

At this, Ara rose from the ground and turned around giving Add a smile. "Guards, take Ara to the execution room and have Add watch. Lock him away afterwards," Eve said. Ara's smile instantly faded and was replaced with shock as she turned back to look at Eve. The guards had already shot forward to take hold of her but so had Add. The guards had put out their weapons to stop him though and took hold of him as well, pulling him away from Ara. "No! Let her go!" Add yelled as he fought to get to Ara.

The guards had already taken her bag and were pulling Ara away. She erupted into power, her hair going white, likely borrowing it from Eun but no tails appeared. Even with Eun's power, Ara was not strong enough to break free of the humanoid nasods' hold. The crowd began to cheer which only fueled Add's anger and despair. Add reached out to Ara who was doing the same but their hands couldn't connect and they were being pulled away from each other. One of the guards actually hit Ara to stop her from struggling and that was when Add really got angry.

His dynamos began emitting a great amount of power output and Add was surrounded in their energy. His dynamos shot into action, blasting a few guards around him with enough force to do permanent damage. Once Add was freed, he didn't hesitate to attack the guards that held Ara and she herself scratched a few when her arms were freed. Add pulled Ara into a loving embrace the very moment she was completely free. The energy around him dissipated and he had his dynamos protectively circle the two of them at a high enough speed to keep the guards away for the time being.

The crowds showed their discontent by shouting at them but Add paid them no mind. "I'm sorry," Ara whispered as she began to cry but Add quieted her and wiped her tears away with his hand. He glared at Eve who was staring at them disdainfully. "My orders are still in affect," she reminded her guards that were still waiting for the opportunity to attack. Add didn't give them time though and neither did Ara. He let her go and she lashed out on a guard that thought it could land an attack.

Add proceeded to shoot electrical shocks at several nasod guards, ending them with a final blow to their cores which he was easily able to locate. Soon enough, there weren't enough guards to keep up their capture attempts and the crowds had begun to get frightened. Add stood with his back pressed to Ara's. He could feel her shaking a bit although he wasn't sure if it was from fear, adrenaline, or rage. "You're only making things worse for yourself," Eve said as she stepped forward. Add tensed up a bit and Ara noticed. Eve was about to capture them herself.

"Apple, assist me. Q-Proto, wait for my signal and strike accordingly," Eve instructed the two standing next to her. Add didn't remember Q-Proto being in Altera but Apple was certainly familiar. Before Eve or Apple could do anything though, explosions began to go off in different areas of the crowd sending them all into panic. Out of the corner of his eye, Add could see someone darting toward them after breaking through the crowd. They wore a cloak so Add couldn't identify them but whoever they were, they passed right by Add and Ara, stopping just afterwards and threw circular objects down in front of them.

Add recognized them to nasod based and could tell that they were harmless smoke bombs. They released the thick smoke almost immediately and clouded everyone's vision. "This way," the cloaked figure said in a feminine voice with a gesture before running off. Add took Ara's hand and followed after her. Soon, Ara was running faster than Add was so he used his dynamos to keep up. The cloaked lady kept throwing smoke bombs in various directions and explosions still went off in almost every direction.

Add didn't know what was going on but he did know for sure that this person was more or less on his side. The cloaked lady suddenly halted and unsheathed a sword. Add and Ara stopped as well and Add recognized the threat to be Oberon, Eve's battle servant. She apparently wasn't done with them yet. "You two go on ahead. I'll catch up soon," the cloaked lady said. Add and Ara followed her instructions, the cloaked woman clearing them a path so they could get by. Without her there to provide cover with the smoke bombs though, Add and Ara were perfectly visible to anyone searching for them.

We'll just say that not every nasod in the crowd was a "civilian" and were very capable of doing harm. One in particular sought them out but unfortunately had no battle experience. Add didn't kill the nasod but he left the poor thing quite damaged after it had nearly attacked Ara. As they continued onward, they noticed that there were other cloaked figures among the crowd that were likely causing the explosions and they were all headed in the same direction as Add and Ara. They had to stop though because another of the more advanced nasods came to stop them.

Persephone and Charon, Apple's nasod servants, were just as dangerous as Eve's nasod servants, Oberon and Ophelia. "I've got this," Add said as he went to attack the servants but then Q-Proto appeared in front of them just as a smoke bomb was thrown among them. Add was forced to stop since the smoke temporarily blinded him. He was suddenly pulled back, both his arms bound behind him. "Don't attack, just listen to me, I'm trting to save you," an unfamiliar voice said.

Ara showed up in front of Add, looking for him so the only other one it could be was Q-Proto. He didn't fight her although he did want her to let him go. "Go with these rebels. They'll take you somewhere safe. I'll meet up with you two some time later," Q-Proto said and then she let Add go just as the smoke was clearing and pushed him towards Ara. "Go!" she said as she turned back to Persephone and Charon who were frozen in place for some reason. Q-Proto dropped another smoke bomb just before the previously existing smoke dispersed.

Ara was already heading to where the other cloaked figures were gathering into a transportation unit different from the one they'd just been in. Ara suddenly stopped and pulled Add down with her as she ducked down to the ground, bullets whisking past them. "They're shooting at us?!" Ara said as she got back up. She resumed her run, darting from side to side to avoid being an easy target. Before long, they got to the transportation unit where they were directed to the back where cargo is usually stored. "It's going to be a rough ride so hang on," the familiar voice of the first cloaked figure with the sword said before shutting the door.

It was a little cramped so Add had to sit right next to Ara for the both of them to fit. It was once again dark but Add's dynamos provided enough light for Add to be able to see Ara's face but he was a bit surprised to see that Ara was crying. She noticed that he saw her tears and began to wipe them away herself but they didn't stop flowing down her face. "I'm sorry. I should have listened to you. I didn't know she would do something like that," Ara began to say.

"Ara, it's okay. We're more or less safe for now so you can stop crying. It isn't your fault," Add said but Ara shook her head at him. "That's not it though. What if she had been able to carry out her plans. I would have left you alone just after accepting you feelings. I would have broken your heart," Ara said as she cried even more. Add's eyes widened once he realized that Ara had even been taking that into consideration the entire time. "Ara, look at me," Add said as he reached over and turned her face to him. "Don't worry about that," he said. Ara stopped crying for a moment but she seemed like she would start again.

"Don't cry. Please don't cry," Add said as he looked into Ara's eyes. He'd completely forgotten that they were still in a moving transportation unit so he was quite startled when the unit apparently hit something and caused Add to lean a bit too close to Ara to the point where their foreheads touched. With eyes widened in shock, they kept staring at each other, completely unmoving and staying completely silent.

"Umm...Add...you're too close," Ara said, breaking the silence. "I know," Add muttered. Another silence followed. "You aren't going to move?" Ara asked, her face starting to color itself in a light shade of pink. "Nope," Add said. He was entranced plus his instincts just told him that his actions weren't entirely wrong. "So....you're just going to sit here like this?" Ara asked. "Yup," Add replied. "You didn't have anything in mind did you?" Ara asked. "Not really," Add said, confused as to what she meant by that. Ara frowned at him a little.

"You're a bit clueless sometimes, I swear," she muttered but Add didn't get the chance to ask her what she meant by that. She'd pushed him back a little and kissed him, reaching up to run her hand through his hair and rest her hand on his cheek. Add was paralyzed by surprise at first but then he kissed Ara back and let her pin him to the wall. Add's thoughts could not gather and he once again found himself feeling a bit blissful. Ara pulled away from him, grinning like an idiot, not too long afterwards.

It was noticeable that the transportation unit had stopped but Add didn't really care at that particular moment. "Do that again," Add said. Ara laughed at him before complying. Someone knocked on the door which caused Ara to quickly separate herself from Add. She did so just in time since the door opened soon afterward. "We'll have to walk from here," the familiar cloaked figure said. Ara exited the space rather quickly but Add took his time. His thoughts were still a bit fuzzy and he could practically still smell the sweet flowery scent that Ara still gave off likely from her special treatment while in Hamel.

Add spotted Ara among the rest of the cloaked figures and walked over to her although he made sure to avoid her gaze which she was also doing but he hadn't noticed. "Before we get any further, we'll introduce ourselves. I'm sure it will help you trust us a bit more, Add. I know it may sound strange but we've been looking for you for a very long time," the cloaked lady said. Add turned his attention to her. "What do you mean you've been looking for me?" Add curiously asked. Even Ara seemed curious. "You're the only person that we know for sure can save all of Altera. You may not remember, which is expected since you told us this last time you were here, but you are the key to saving us all," the cloaked lady said.
