- Entry #7: The Confession {Part Two of Two} -

Before this chapter starts, I want to point out something that I had talked about earlier retaining to being able to tell who is talking in author notes, me or Seto.

My author notes always start at either the beginning or end of chapters, never in the middle of them and all text in them is bolded following after or is before a line break the separates it from the story.

While Seto's are marked as: - Author's Note -  (Heading is bolded and italicized) The text that is pertained to the author's note is italicized and not bolded, once over, the text will return to normal meaning the return back to the story. These usually only appear when he feels clarity is needed in times when having that clarity in the story is either pointless or could ruin the storyline. I'm only pointing this out since there is an author note written by Seto in this chapter.

This author notes thing exists since, in the universe of this story, Seto wrote this book himself. That's why the chapters are called entries and not called chapters. They are entries from Seto's journal and what he wrote about during his journey in Vienna. It is also why this is only in Seto's point of view and no one else's since this book exists only from Seto's perspective since he is the one writing it.

Hope you enjoy the chapter and sorry for the gap between updates! This one took a bit longer for me to write. Enjoy! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wait, you are actually serious?" Tom asked me. I nodded knowing it probably sounds crazy. After a few more matches between Shiro and I, I decided to seek out the Fyre Brothers to let them know what has happened. We made a lot of progress, so I wanted to update them on everything that has happened and my decision to go to the End after Lady Ianite. To say that they were shocked was an understatement, Tom and Phil are surprised while James is unreadable as usual and Matt seems unsure.
Phil sighed before he smiled a bit. "It is a crazy plan--"
Tom looked at Phil. "Crazy? It's absurd!" he said before looking at me. "You don't even know if Lady Ianite is there and if she is, how do you know she will hear you out?" he asked me. I don't know for sure if she is there, but if she is, I'm assuming that she will listen to me. It's because of her past with wizards already, I'm starting to believe that maybe the relationship between Master Nicholas and Lady Ianite wasn't all that it seemed.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I just have faith--"
"So you are a god's champion?" Matthew asked sounding nervous. I looked at Matt with soft eyes. It hasn't eluded me that Matt seems nervous around gods like he is extra cautious of them. But the last thing I want is for him to be afraid of me.
I nod a bit. "Seems like it, I'm not sure. But I'm on your side as well, Matthew. I'm not gonna do anything to any of you," I said.
"Expect to take us on a suicide mission," Tom said.
"James, what is your opinion of this?" Phil asked making me look at James, ignoring Tom's comment. James looked deep in thought like he was thinking this through which from what Violet told me, is odd.
James's eyes flicker up to mine. "It is certainly risky in terms of going against the Council and breaking at least four laws as well. But...I'll tag along," he said shocking me. I smile as Tom and Phil looked at James shocked.
"What?!"
"Thanks, James," I said. I will admit that I feel much better knowing that James is on my side with this. I can tell that when it comes to the Elites, the others listen to James and what he has to say. So to hear that he is on board makes me feel better that more will tag along. Not only that, I didn't want to do this on my own since I don't know Vienna very well.
Phil sighed irritated before looking at me. "Alright, if James is on board, so am I," he said.
"Me too!" Matthew said making me smile at the thought of finally seeing what Matt is capable of.
I looked at Tom much like the other three did. Tom gives me an unsure look. "Even if I am on your side with this, I can't leave. One of us has to stay here on campus for the academy," he said making me nod. I forgot about the school, but it is the thought that counts that he would have helped.
"I understand, the students come first," I said. I don't want to interrupt the students' education, so I rather one of them stay behind if that means that the students continue learning. I looked at James. "Can you convince Violet to come?" I asked him making him arch an eyebrow up at me.
"Why me? And why her?" he asked. I felt my cheek heat up slightly as I looked away from him trying to come up with an answer without sounding like an idiot. But before I could speak, Phil did and I didn't like what he said.
"It seems like Mr. Amnesiac here has a crush on Violet," he said making me look at him. I see they are all, except for James of course, looking at me with a smirk across their lips.
My eyes soften at them knowing they are right. "I might, but it doesn't matter. I-I don't belong in this dimension, a relationship would just be a waste of time and only end in heartbreak. And I don't want to hurt her since I'm gonna have to return home eventually," I said making Tom sigh.
"You're right, but you are also wrong. As far as we all are concerned, you do belong here even if you are from another dimension," he said before pointing at me. "So don't sell yourself so short, Seto. You are a highly decorated soldier--"
"I was a highly decorated soldier. I also was some type of hero and leader, someone a lot of people looked up to for answers and solutions. I was that...not anymore," I said. I may have been some type of war hero in the past but I'm not that person anymore and I don't know if I can be that person again. I just don't know if me being the person I was is what is the world needs again, well what my world needs. "I don't know if me being that type of person is what is best for my home again--"
I flinched when a hand touched my shoulder making me look up to see Phil. Phil smiles at me. "Seto, as far as I can tell, you are a good person. And no matter what, I can speak for all of us in saying that we will stand by you, no matter what. And if you need, we can even come with you to help you save your home," he said making me smile at him.
But I lose my smile. "I can't ask that of you all, but the thought does mean a lot. Honestly, I believe that the problems of my homeworld are something that I and my friends there need to fix ourselves--"
James nods. "True, but we could say the same for our world and yet you're here," he pointed out.
'He does have a point there, Seto,' Kala pointed out as well making me look at her.
'Kala--'
'I may not know a lot about this conflict and stuff since problems of the two-legged goes over my head. But I can tell that they are right that you are a good person. And you seem to forget that since I am your familiar, I'm gonna be coming to your world with you,' Kala thought to me making me realize something. Since Kala is my familiar, she is going to have to come home with me meaning I'm gonna be taking her away from her home to a completely new environment.
'Oh Kala, I'm so sorry. I didn't even think about that. You don't have to come with me, I don't want you to have to leave your home--'
'Oh because Vienna is homey to me? No, it isn't. I'm sticking to you like glue, so I'm coming with you to your dimension. And you can't change my mind,' Kala thought to me making me smile.
"It's so weird watching this, I wonder what they are saying to each other..." I heard Tom say making me look at the four brothers.
"It's nothing, sorry, but...Violet is...smart. She...ah..." I stopped talking starting to get embarrassed. I'm trying to talk about her but I'm trying not to sound like I have the crush that I have. I let out a soft shaky breath. "Look, you understand what I'm trying to say. She will be helpful in this," I said. That and I want her there for support, she always seems to know just the right words to say to talk me out of any funk I put myself in. And with me venturing forth on a journey that might be a total waste of time...I could use some support.
"I think you should talk to her," Matthew said making me look at the fire wizard wondering why he thinks this.
"But I--"
Phil nods. "I agree with Matthew--Wow, I just said that out loud..." he said looking away from me at the end thinking to himself. But he looked back at me. "She listens to you, Seto. The only people she really listens to is you, Shiro on occasion, and James. I think if anyone can get her on board with this plan of yours, it's you," he said. I bite down on my bottom lip, nervous. I want to talk to her...but at the same time, I don't want to. She seemed to be very against this when I came up with the plan so I don't know if I am going to be able to convince her to join me on this. But...I can give it a shot.
I nodded a bit. "I'll try, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to convince her," I said honestly.
I had found her just where I expected her to be. Her temporary room while she is here on campus. I knock on the door, hearing shuffling before it opened and she was there. I give her a small smile or at least the best smile I can muster up at the time.
"Can we talk?" I asked.
Violet nods at me but doesn't move to let me in. "Sure, if it isn't about your suicidal trip to the End," she said. I lose my smile making her cross her arms at me. "Thought so."
"I...would appreciate it if you came with me. James, Phil, Shiro, and Matt are already coming," I told her.
She chuckles at me. "I'm not shocked they are," she said before losing her smile. "But I'm not tagging along with you just to watch you get yourself killed."
My eyes soften at her knowing I need to be honest with her if I'm gonna convince her. "Can I come in? So everyone doesn't hear this?" I asked her before she moved aside letting Kala and I in. She closed the door, turning around and facing me as I hesitated to look at her. I'm trying to rack my brain for what I want to tell her.
I let out a shaky breath as she speaks. "Seto, I'm not gonna come. You do have the others coming with you, so I don't see why I should come along with you--"
I look at her. "But they aren't you," I told her making her stop talking waiting for me to elaborate. I bit on my bottom lip before I face her. "I'm not gonna stand here and act like I don't know how stupid my plan is. I'm aware that it is questionable at best. But it just feels right," I told her.
She shakes her head. "I fail to see why this pertains to me," she responded.
"I'm getting there..." I mumbled before I moved closer to her. I know I need to tell her the real reason why I want to do see Lady Ianite but I don't know if that would be good enough. "I-I don't want to go see Lady Ianite without you since I...I have a feeling that she may be the one who dragged me here..."
Her expression softens as her arms relax from across her chest. "Why? Did you see her do it?" she asked.
I shake my head. "No, but I heard a voice, it was a woman's voice. She told me how I have to help fix Vienna, help it so she could heal the land. And with Lady Ianite being the goddess of balance and peace, it would make sense that she would want to heal a war-ridden world," I told her.
She nods a bit. "Yeah, I guess. But why would you want me there? James, Phil, Tom--"
"Because when I'm around you I feel...at peace. I-I feel happy and content in a way that I don't feel around anyone else. I don't need to hold back around you since I know you won't judge me. You push the negative thoughts that have been plaguing my mind since the start away with only your smile. Since coming here, I've felt like nothing but an outsider and a burden. I felt alone and like giving up," I said before pointing at her. "But you make me keep going."
"Seto..."
I look down at the floor, lowering my hand. "I-I'm not telling you this and hope you feel the same. That wouldn't be fair to you. I'm more than happy to stay good friends," I said before looking at her. I mean, it would be great if she felt the same, but that's just wishful thinking. I give her a small smile and lost it. "I'm only telling how I feel in hopes you understand why it would mean so much to me if you came along. You make sense of the world around me and I need that since my mind is so scrambled that it is hard to make sense of it at times...That's all I wanted to say."
She stood there, speechless. I can tell I did catch her off guard, understandable. I did sort of just confess.
"I should go," I said before moving towards the door since I want to give her space. But she grabs my arm, stopping me.
"W-Wait," She stammered making me look at her.
"What is it?" I asked her. She isn't looking at me, she pulled on me, her hands clutching my arm as I felt my heart flutter slightly at the sight of her.
"G-Geez...I would have to be some type of jerk to deny you after you said all that," she said before she looked at me. "I won't deny that I did have a small crush on you when I first met you. You're really cute, Seto, and you have a good heart. But...I don't...feel the same way you do," she said and I could hear the nervousness in her voice when she said that.
I give her a small smile. "That's fine, I wasn't expecting you too. I'm perfectly content just staying friends regardless of how I truly feel for you. This isn't my dimension, after all, I will one day return home and leave Vienna and we won't know if I will be able to return here after that," I said which I felt her hands grip my arm tighter in response like she didn't like what I said. I lose my smile staring at her.
"R-Right..." she mumbled in response. I could tell that she didn't like thinking about me one day leaving Vienna, most likely forever. She lifted her head, her eyes connecting with mine. "We may have only known each other for a few days but you just give off this aura of protection. You feel safe. And I'm so s-sorry I can't say that I feel for you like you do for me, but that doesn't mean you aren't important to me because you are. You are important to me, Seto. So...I'll come with you to the End to see Lady Ianite," she said making me smile at her.
"Really?" I asked making her nod.
"Yeah," she said as her hands slide down my forearm and to my hand, holding it making my cheeks heat up and my heart race. This is going to be hard but she doesn't feel the same way I do. I have to accept that and just move on.
I smile at her. "Thank you, we're going to be leaving tonight to not alert anyone of what we are doing," I told her squeezing her hand.
She nods. "Sounds good, do you know how long the trip will be?" she asked me. I shake my head at her. I don't know since anything can happen. Just because we have an intended course doesn't mean that nothing will happen that could stray us from the path ahead.
I shrug my shoulders. "Don't know, hopefully, it won't take very long," I said.
She smiled a bit at me suddenly. "So, you are some Court Wizard?" she asked me.
"Court Wizard?" I questioned.
"Before the God and Wizard War, human kings and queens would pick sorcerers to serve in their royal courts. It was once considered an honor to be bestowed such a position," she said.
"What happened?" I asked curiously.
Her eyes soften. "The humans turned on us, they declared war on magic and slaughtered almost all of us in just one week. It was...bad times. The Witch Trials if you will..." she said.
"What changed?" I asked.
She gives me a small smile. "The human capital, Rullus City, one of the three major human cities in Vienna, was under threat of a major attack by dark mages. The humans fortified the city, planning to win...but there was no winning that battle for them," she said before she sat on her bed. Humans cannot win against a dark mage army, not by themselves and without magic aid. They will all die. She looked at me. "We were going to do nothing, well, the Magic Council said to do nothing and let the humans be slaughtered. But...The Fyre Brothers had a different opinion," she said making me smile.
"Let me guess, they charged straight towards the army?" I asked.
Violet laughed as she nodded. "You could say that. James came to Riley and me, asking for our help in saving Rullus and the humans. I may not like the humans, but that doesn't mean I want them to die. That would make me as bad as they are. So Riley and I agreed to help while Phil recruited Reed and a few other strong mages. All of us went to Rullus and saved the city and the humans, but once the battle was over...Riley and I were attacked by the humans because we were mages and they still saw us as the enemy," she said making me lose my smile.
"Wait, you saved them and they attacked you?!" I asked her. She nodded. I shake my head. "That's messed up."
She gives me a small smile. "The human prince, Prince Lucilius, saw Riley and I get attacked by the soldiers and immediately stepped in to protect us. Riley was okay but I got hurt from them. Prince Lucilius is...he's different. He had me taken to the Rullus Court Physician to be treated. His father became an advocate to end the war of magic. Rullus Kingdom ended their war on us, announcing that the kingdom will harbor any mages that come through its lands. Riley, Reed, James, Phil, and I became known as the Elite Wizards. Shiro and Katrina joined us two years later," she said. I nodded but I stopped when I realized she said a name that I don't recognize.
"Katrina? Who is that?" I questioned. I see her expression drop, she looks away from me. My eyes soften. "Is...Is she dead?"
Violet shakes her head. "No, and even if she was, none of us would be complaining," she said.
"Who was she?" I asked. I've never heard of Katrina, but I can tell that she left some sort of wound. I sit down on the bed beside her, seeing she is hesitant to speak. "You don't have to tell me, I'm just curious about her is all--"
She nods. "I-I know but if you are going to help us to stop the dark mages and such...you need to know who she is and what she has done to us," she said. Her fingers touch my hand, making me subconsciously take her hand into mine, squeezing it gently. She lets out a shaky breath. "Katrina Bellgood, she's...a beautiful wizardess that has a talent for illusions and circle magic. Katrina is...she's from Shiro's past. Their relationship was never really explained well, but I know that she meant a lot to him. Honestly, she was nice...but there was always something off about her," she said before her eyes looked at me. "She was with us for about a year and a half before...before her true colors shown. Like you, Shiro and Katrina aren't from Vienna. "
"Really? Is that why Shiro's magic is seen as so unique?" I asked.
She smiles as she nods. "Yes, but they didn't come here under the same circumstances as you. They came here to escape their dying home," she said. I look away from her, thinking. Is that why Shiro is so willing to help me? Because I remind him of himself at one time in his life?
"Shiro is okay with helping me?" I asked her.
She nods a bit. "He was willing to help you from the gecko, but when I told him about you...I could tell that the circumstances of your coming here opened old wounds for him. I-I think he needed time to work through his problems before facing you and trying to help you with yours. That's why he is so willing to help you, Seto. I think he sees himself in you...he sees the chance that he will never get...to return home," she said. Well, now I just feel bad for Shiro.
"And Katrina?" I asked.
"Katrina wasn't only good in spell casting, she was a master at alchemy," she said.
"Alchemy?" I questioned. Now that word sounds familiar.
"Alchemy is transforming one thing into another, mostly used to convert base metals into gold or to create elixirs. Katrina mastered the creation of magical elixirs, more specifically, poisons with the potency enhanced through magic...making it harder to cure those who were subjected to it," she said with this sorrow on her face and in her tone. She looked at the floor, biting on her bottom lip. "We...We would have ended the war on dark mage if it wasn't for her long ago. We had a friend, a powerful wizardess named Gwen. She was a natural when it came to uncover work, so she work as a spy behind enemy lines. She provided us with details of battle plans, names of who was in charge... everything you don't want your enemy to have she gave to us as she posed as a dark mage. She said that the leader of the Dark mages, Rodor Harleston, was going to launch an attack on Laenadur through the west. So we made plans to incept them," she said before looking at me. I was caught off guard by the tears in her eyes. She talked about Gwen in the past tense...that can't be good.
She squeezed my hand. "We made camp in the woods. I was with Reed, Nyara, Sabrina, and a few others at a different camp. James, Phil, Riley, and Shiro were with her at another. In the morning, we moved out ready to attack after we had found Rodor and his men. But just as we were going to attack, I-I saw Katrina talking with Rodor," she said. I see tears form in her eyes making me feel guilty. I have a bad feeling about this story, and it can't be one that is nice to relive.
"What happened?" I asked her.
"I always suspected Katrina, she was very secretive. But I never thought she would betray us. James, Phil, Riley, and Shiro never showed up, but when I saw that Katrina had shown up but was speaking with Rodor unharmed...I...I immediately ran to their camp. I never fully trusted Katrina, I feared that she did something to them and I was right. When I got to the camp, they were dying. Katrina poisoned them. It took a week for them to fully recover from the poison even with magic healing them. Katrina killed Gwen, she told Rodor of all of our defenses making him retreat and getaway. Katrina left with them and has been there ever since," she said. I pick up my hand, using my thumb to wipe the tears from her cheeks. Her eyes flicker to mine as I smile at her.
"That sounds horrible. But at least she didn't succeed in killing James, Phil, Riley, and Shiro. You saved their lives," I told her.
"B-But not Gwen," she stammered. I pull her close, putting my arms around her in ahead before she buries her face into my chest.
Well...I've learned a lot of the Elites, more than I probably should. But it seems like a good idea that I should know about Katrina...I have a feeling that I'll be meeting her sometime in the future if I'm to help end the war raging right now. Her alchemy skills are frightening, also...if she came from the same place as Shiro did, why did she betray him? What could she have to gain being in a world that isn't hers? It doesn't make any sense.
"I don't mean to pry...but if Katrina is from another world, what could she possibly have to gain from helping Rodor?" I asked before she pulled out the hug.
"We don't know," she said before she rubs her face with her sleeves. "I tried asking Shiro about it, but whenever someone brings her up, he freezes. I think he is still trying to accept her betrayal."
I can't imagine what Shiro felt when he learned of her betrayal, it must have been really hard. Shiro was Katrina's last remnant of her world, and Katrina was Shiro's last remnant. If anything, I would think that Katrina would never stab Shiro in the back because of that. So why did she? That's just...crossing a line that should never be crossed.
I snap out of my thoughts when I felt Violet's hands grab my arms. I look at her seeing she looks concerned. I give her a soft smile. "Sorry, it...it just doesn't make any sense. And I bet Shiro doesn't understand it either, it must have been hard for him," I said.
She nods. "Yeah, he refuses to talk about it," she said before there was a knock on the door. Violet goes over and opens the door. "Phil, what are you--"
"So, you tagging along?" I heard Phil's voice ask her. I get up, walking up to the door and stopping behind Violet to see Phil and James there.
Violet nods. "Yeah well, he sort of gave me no choice," she said.
Phil smiles. "Good, I was hoping you would come," he said.
"But we need to leave as soon as possible, so pack up," James said making me look at him.
"Why?" I asked.
James looked at me. "Because the Mage Knights are on campus looking for you, and this time they brought anti-magic mages to temporarily disable the Elites if we try anything. Right now, Tom, Riley, and Matt are keeping them busy. Matt and Riley are gonna catch up with us once we are clear of the campus. We have to go while they are distracted," he said. I nod. Damn, I wanted to talk to Rowan before I left. But it seems like I won't be able to.
"Alright, I just need to grab some stuff from my room," I said.
Violet put her hand on my chest, stopping me from leaving. "Wait, what if they see you? We--"
Phil arches an eyebrow up at her. "Are you doubting Matt's ability to annoy people to death just by talking their ear off?" he asked making her look at him.
"No! I'm perfectly aware of Matthew's ability to rant about things that don't matter," she said.
Phil looked at me. "Go with James to your room, we'll all meet you up on the east side of the protective barrier circles," he said. I walk past them, Kala following me until Phil puts his leg in front of Kala, blocking her way from exiting the room. "Kala, you come with us. They know you are Seto's familiar, it is better to split you two apart." I could sense the panic in Kala suddenly making me look at her. She seems upset at the idea of splitting up.
'W-What? But Seto--'
I smile at Kala as I spoke to her in our mind link, trying to calm her panicked mind. 'It's alright, Kala. Phil is right, they'll know who I am once they see you with James and I. I'll see you in a few minutes, protect Violet and Phil for me,' I spoke to her. She looked at me, staring at me for a few seconds in silence before she spoke to me.
'Alright, but if I sense you in danger, Phil's orders be damned,' she thought making me chuckle lightly. I nod a bit.
'That's fair,' I responded before I looked at Phil. "She'll follow you to a degree," I told him.
Phil sighed. "I'm not going to ask what that means. Just go, we don't have much time to waste," he said before James and I left.
When we got to the tower, I had seen them. The Magic Knights. Luckily James and I were able to slip in undetected. I went to my room, grabbing a brown shoulder bag. I grab my journal, the magic pen that Phil had given me, the arcane spellbook, my sword, and the book that talked about the true history of the gods.
- Author's Note -
The Magic Pen that Phil gave me was given to me back during the day of the second entry. I just didn't write about it. It's a type of pen that is of his creation that writes using the writer's magic energy. It makes it so people who are traveling don't need to worry about ink and quills. It is one of his popular inventions and very handy. He gave it to me since he had just created a shipment and had a few extras, so he gave me two of them for my writing.
I strapped on my swordbelt, securing the blade to my hip before pulling my coat forward, hiding it underneath the fabric. I toss the shoulder bag over my head and look at James. "Okay, I'm good. Do you need to stop--"
James shakes his head. "No, I'm good. Matt will grab us a few things before he leaves for Phil and me," he said. I nodded, following him out, heading towards the eastern side of campus to meet up with the others.
