Jordan squealed loudly as her Dad pushed her on the swing so she was higher than ever. She felt as free as a bird when she was on the swing. It was her favourite part of the whole park. Her Dad laughed along with Jordan's squealing and laughing.
Jordan's laughing came to a halt as she saw her Mum storm towards them.
"Daddy, stop the swing," her small voice commanded. He did just that and helped her get out of the seat. She smiled brightly at her mother who was scowling at her husband, Collin.
"Jordan's a little girl, why are you letting her ruin her damn dress?" her Mum yelled at her Dad. Jordan looked down at her once yellow dress. It had mud all over it. Jordan didn't mind though, she never liked the dress. She prefered to wear shorts and t-shirt but, her mother never understood that.
"Liv, she was having fun, lighten up," Collin replied, grinning at his daughter who was still observing her ruined dress.
Jordan's Mum and Dad always argued, especially over little things. This saddened Jordan a lot, her Dad would often leave after a fight, leaving her with her mother.
"I can't believe you. You have a son to do that with! She's supposed to be playing with barbie's and pretending she's a fairy!"
This caught Jordan's attention.
"Mummy, fairies aren't real," Jordan stated. Her mother gasped at her daughter's words.
"Did you fucking teach her that too? I can't believe you. Let's go Jordan," her Mum grabbed Jordan's small hand and dragged her back to the car.
Jordan looked behind her and yelled out to her Dad, "Daddy, come on!"
Tears ran down her small face as she realised her father wasn't coming with them. He wasn't going to be home that night.

"Mum! Look what the school invited me to!" Jordan yelled as soon as she entered the house with a note from the school in her hand. Jordan had been invited to go to a training camp where they taught children self-defence and other survival skills.
She frowned as she could distinctly hear weird noises echo through the house. She had never heard the human-like sounds before.
She crept upstairs, as she got closer to parents' bedroom, the louder the noises were. The door was slightly opened. She popped her head in, seeing what it was. She dropped the note onto the floor straight away at the sight.
Her mother and a man laid naked on the bed, their clothes piled on the floor. Her Mum was licking the man's private part like a lollypop. Jordan stared in shock. She didn't know if she should say something or run. The man groaned extremely loudly as her mother took his private part fully into her mouth, making Jordan think he was in pain.
"Mum?" she called, worried for the man's safety. Their eyes snapped on to the young girl's figure that was standing in the doorway.
"Fuck!" the man cursed. He scrambled to hide his naked body. Jordan's mother quickly wrapped a blanket around herself.
"Jordan, get the fuck out of here! Get to your room!" her Mum screeched at the child. Jordan looked horrified and ran to her room as fast as she could. She shut the door behind her. Jordan didn't realise she was crying until a tear fell onto her arm.
She didn't know what was happening back there, but she knew she was in trouble for seeing it. Jordan figured that the man had something wrong with him and his Mum had to help.
'My Mum is a good person, that's why she would help him,' she thought before getting on with her homework.

Hudson kicked the football over Jordan's head, making it roll down the hill near the river.
"Hudson! Quick, it's going to roll down into the water!" Jordan yelled to her younger brother. The pair took off after the ball. Jordan was very athletic, especially compared to her brother. She won most track and field events at school. She held many records too.
Although Jordan was fast, she wasn't fast enough. As she reached the bottom, the ball had already gone into the water. The fast moving stream took the ball in a matter of seconds. Hudson caught up to Jordan and huffed. They both watched his red ball go down the stream.
"Jordan! Hudson!" their mother screamed from the top of the hill. Jordan gulped at the voice. She knew she was going to get in trouble now. Hudson was always mentioned when her mother spoke to other parents, Jordan was either the devil's spawn or she didn't exist.
The two children ran up the hill, Jordan beating her younger brother by a lot. Her mother glared her, making her feel nervous.
"Where's the ball?" she questioned, looking at Jordan mainly.
"It went down the hill, into the river. Jordan almost got it!" Hudson exclaimed not quite understanding that Jordan will get into trouble.
"You're supposed to be responsible and not lose his stuff," her mother spoke with anger.
"Hudson kicked it. It was an accident," Jordan tried to explain the truth.
"You really think I'll believe that bullshit? He's nine years old, he can't kick a ball that far," Jordan's Mum said, frowning at her daughter. Jordan sighed with frustration.
"You never believe me! I didn't do anything!" the twelve year old tried again. Her mother growled.
"Don't you dare speak to me like that! That's it! You've ruined the day, we're going home," her Mum decided. Jordan watched as her Mum dragged Hudson along to the car. He looked back at her with sadness.
Jordan kicked a rock angrily before taking off after them.

Jordan had witness another night of constantly moaning from her mother's bedroom. Her Dad was out on a night shift and her Mum took advantage of that.
Jordan was sick of it. Her Mum had three different guys come in last night. Jordan picked up her phone and went into her favourites. Her favourite contacts only consisted of Hudson and her father. She clicked on her Dad's name and brought the phone up to her ear.
It rang three times before her Dad picked up.
"Hey Jords, do you need something? I'm home in two hours," her Dad answered.
"Dad, you need to come home now," Jordan decided on saying. Although, she didn't know that by telling him, it would ruin her family forever.
"Why, is there something wrong? Jordan?" her Dad asked in panic.
"Dad, just come home," she repeated.
'He needs to know,' she thought.
"Alright. I'll be home in ten, see you soon," he finally caved in. She hung up without saying anything. She stormed out of her bedroom. Hudson was just down the hallway.
"What was all that noise last night?" he asked while rubbing his eyes.
"Oh, Mum had her work friends over. They were catching up," Jordan answered. Although Hudson was now 11, he was very naïve and innocent. She didn't want to ruin that.
Her brother nodded and went back into his room. Jordan knew his mother would be fast asleep from her nightly activities for awhile. She went downstairs, skipping every second step. She went to the pantry and grabbed the front door key. She skipped over to the front door and unlocked it as fast as could. She made sure to close the door behind her quietly.
Jordan stepped out into the warm morning air. She loved Georgia because of that. She didn't have to worry about putting on a jacket or anything.
She sat on their front lawn, waiting for her father to arrive. Jordan wasn't sure if the cheating had been going on well before she had found out or not.
Soon enough, a navy suv pulled up into the driveway. She smiled brightly as her Dad stepped out of his car. He went to the boot and pulled out his backpack full of work stuff.
"Good morning, Dad," she greeted him.
"G'morning, sweetheart," he replied tiredly. He had been working a long nightshift, Jordan thought she was probably doing him a favour.
Her father went to go up to the front door.
"No!" Jordan whisper-yelled before he could get any closer. Her Dad looked at her weirdly.
"I need to tell you something first, Dad," she mumbled, becoming nervous. He looked at her with a worried expression before putting down his bag. He kneeled in front of his daughter.
"You can tell me anything, you know that right?" he assured her. Jordan nodded sadly.
"Uh... Mum's not being faithful to you... I walked in on her giving a stranger a blowjob when I was 10, I didn't know what was happening! She told me to never say anything! I didn't know what to do! I'm so sorry, I should've told you!" she spoke really fast, tears fell down her cheeks.
Collin, her Dad, looked like he was going to cry. His blue eyes were glassy.
"Jords... Go to Hudson's room, keep him occupied," he answered in a monotone voice.
Jordan went to protest but he cut her off, "you're not in trouble, I love you."
She nodded sadly and walked back into the house, leaving him outside. She ran up the stairs and went straight to her brother's room.
She smiled at her brother who was playing video games. He looked at her briefly before looking at his TV.
"What are you doing here?" he questioned, not removing his eyes off of his game.
She didn't answer because she could hear yelling in the next room. Her Dad was confronting his wife about it.
"It'll be okay," Jordan whispered to her brother who didn't even flinch at the yelling.
"It'll be okay," she repeated, to reassure herself.
›››‹‹‹ {when she was 18 years old...}
Jordan glared at the family photo that stood on her desk, near the stacks of school work that she kept from last year. Jordan's Dad left five years ago. He moved to New York and found a new family and a new job. He left Hudson and Jordan with their mother without saying goodbye. She didn't blame him.
Jordan believed she was a problematic child and Hudson was just too stupid to realise what had been happening. He probably knew now, but he never spoke about it. Jordan hated her mother. Their relationship really went downhill when her father left. Luckily, Jordan's mother never found out that she was the one who told him what happened.
Jordan was thinking of joining Atlanta's police force, since she had graduated from high school last year. She had to be twenty years old to join but she wanted to work on getting some more work experience. Jordan has had a job since she was 13. She started working at the local convenience store so she could make some extra money for school supplies.
Her bedroom door opened, startling her out of her thoughts.
Hudson popped his head around the corner, "dinner's ready."
Jordan nodded to him and stood up from her desk chair. Hudson had already left to go downstairs. She walked down the stairs, skipping every second stair -- as usual.
She walked into the dining room and noticed that her mother had actually prepared a dinner. She raised an eyebrow at the strange and rare occurrence.
"Sit down," Liv, Jordan's mother said. Hudson looked at Jordan suspiciously, like he knew she would say something to cause a fight. Jordan rolled her eyes at him, but took a seat nonetheless.
Her Mum placed down a bowl of carbonara in front of her. Jordan mumbled a thank you before digging in. Her mother sat across from her and Hudson sat on the right of Jordan.
"How was school, Hudson?" their mother asked. Jordan frowned at her. She was acting strange.
"Really good. I got 93% in a Math's test," Hudson beamed. Jordan smiled at him, she was proud of what he was achieving.
"Jordan, when are you going to get a job?" her mother asked Jordan with a completely different tone of voice. It was still nicer than usual though.
"Why do you care?" Jordan spat in annoyance at her even talking to her. Her Mum frowned at her daughter.
"I didn't raise you to talk to me like that," she argued, placing her fork down on the table.
"I'm joining the Police Academy," Jordan decided on answering. Her mother scoffed.
"They won't let you in," she replied, going back to eating her dinner.
"Why? Because my mother is on drugs right now?" Jordan growled with anger. Hudson gasped at Jordan's accusation. Liv's eyes widened.
"You think you know shit, but you don't!" Jordan's mother yelled at her.
Jordan rolled her eyes, "says you. Guess who told Dad? Your absolutely lovely daughter, Jordan."
Jordan's comment sent her mother over the edge. Her Mum grabbed the vase from the table and threw it at Jordan. Jordan ducked out of the way just in time. The vase smashed as it hit the wall. The dead flowers and the water went everywhere.
"Hudson, get out of here! Call the cops!" Jordan screamed to him. He looked frightened and confused but did as his sister had asked.
"Jordan, why can't you be a good daughter for once in your fucking life?" her Mum screeched.
"Why did you cheat? Why do you always favour my brother over me? Why can't you be a motherly figure to us?" Jordan yelled back, pointing a finger at her. Red and blue lights flashed from outside. The loud police sirens turned off.
Jordan turned back towards her mother and smirked at her.
"Have fun in hell," she said with a sickly smile. The door was kicked open and a half a dozen Atlanta police officers barged in. Two grabbed Jordan's mother who was by now crying and screaming. She was a wreck. She was definitely on something.
As Jordan's mother was taken away, it was from that moment when Jordan knew exactly what she was going to do with her life...
She was going to join the A.P.D.
