Awkward
The next few days Jimin and Tony had gotten closer. They sat together everyday at lunch. Although there wasn't ever a whole lot of conversation, Jimin could tell that Tony enjoyed his company just as much as he did. Tony helped Jimin with a few things too, like ordering at restaurants after school or teaching him how to ride a skateboard again. Of course he never wanted to learn how to ride since last time he fell on his ass, but Tony insisted that he learned how to skate.
"Hey Tony." Jimin greeted as he placed his tray of fries and a burger on the table next to his mocha friend.
"Hey Chim Chim." Tony looked up from his textbook and flashed a toothy grin. He held out his hand and gave a bro-five to Jimin. This was like a daily ritual for the two. Greet, smile, then comfortably eat together in peaceful silence.
"Hey, got a minute?" An unfamiliar female asked from behind them. The pair looked back at a beautiful blonde, her lips looked like they kissed then broke the hearts of many vulnerable men. With all her weight on one side, she placed a manicured hand on her hip. Her eyes fluttered and her thin eyebrows knitted together in disgust as she eyed them both.
"Vanessa." Tony breathed.
"Hey Tony what's up?" She said.
"Nothing much." Jimin watched Tony out of the corner of his eye. He wasn't sure how, but he could tell Tony was both nervous and annoyed. Did he have a crush on her or something? Something about this Vanessa girl didn't feel right.
"Why are you hanging with him?" Shifting her weight, her puckered pink lips parted slightly after each word.
"Because he's a cool dude that's why." Tony tried not to just get up and walk away from this woman, but he thought his food was much more important than a bitch.
"Please. Ching Chong?" A lot small laugh made it's way out of her mouth. Jimin already knew what kind of person she was, even though he was completely lost. Which was nothing new of course.
Tony sighed before burning into Vanessa's head with his dark eyes. "Don't call him Ching Chong. His name's Chim Chim."
This time Vanessa cackled loudly. "Chim Chim? What kind of Chinese name is that?" A plastic smile spread from ear to ear. "See ya." Her rings and nails twinkled as she waved goodbye before strutting off to some unknown direction.
"God." Tony whispered under his breath. Jimin decided not to ask and returned to his food. She was beautiful, but he was sure that was just the makeup talking. After a few minutes of awkwardness between the two, the bell finally rang. Thank God. "Alright
let's go." Tony breathed. He seemed quiet after Vanessa left. It was a little concerning. So Jimin did the only thing probably could do.
As they walked down the hall Tony stopped by his locker in order to get his things, but
little did he know that Jimin felt like being weird. As soon as Tony got his last notebook, the locker door slammed shut creating a metallic echo to travel down the empty hallway. A thin arm stretched in front of his face. Could it be another bully? Tony thought. His eyes traveled up the arm and lead to a serious face. It was the face of his new best friend. Jimin leaned on the locker with his foot crossed over the other. An oh-so seductive twinkle was in his eyes.
Before Tony could even think of words to say, Jimin blurt out, "Sup. So seductive." Tony couldn't even keep it in. He snorted with a high pitched laugh following. His voice lowered before he quit laughing and smiled wide-eyed at Jimin.
"Where'd you learn that?" He chuckled and tilted his head back. Jimin pushed himself for the locker and jumped in front of Tony.
"Hehe." His lips curled from ear to ear, exposing a smile that he most likely stole from a two year old. Gasping, Tony leaped forward, grabbing onto the fleeing Jimin's sleeve. Just as he jerked his arm, Jimin turned around and a flung against Tony's body with much force. He lost his balance and gasped as he started to helplessly fall.
"I got you!" Tony rang out almost automatically, gripping Jimin's waist and pulling him back to his long torso. "Uh..." none of them knew what to say. Jimin's eyes met Tony's and just stayed there, his weight still being awkwardly supported by Tony. Heat radiated between them and each breath was like a last attempt for air. Jimin could have sworn he saw a flower petal fly in from somewhere. They both gulped before releasing each other. "Sorry." Tony apologized. Jimin smiled awkwardly and waved his hands. He was also sorry.
After that the whole day was awkward. What seemed like forever was probably only about 15 seconds. Who knew this 15 seconds would change the rest of the day. They sat awkwardly in class, making eye contact every few minutes. As the bell rang they awkwardly gathered their things, whispering goodbye. And every time they passed through the hall, they both looked into each other's eyes before snapping their gaze elsewhere. This repeated until the last bell rang.
"Hello." Jimin greeted the girl like he did every day. He hasn't gotten much out of that small mouth of hers, but lately her lips have curled into a delicate smile. Like one that would fall off if the wind blew just a little too hard.
"Hi." She said. This time she paused a little before looking down at a pink iPhone in her lap.
"Woah." Jimin exhaled, looking down at the newest model. He never got to take close looks at things like this. He barely had a flip phone for emergencies because after the great move, his family had been short on money.
"What?" She asked, looking up in confusion. Jimin gave a small smile and pointed to her phone.
"Cool." He said. At this she smiled and tightened her grip. She must have been a little modest about it since almost right after that she tucked it away in her jacket. Of course like every day, it was a peaceful silence between them. Although Jimin could still feel holed burning into his skull by eyes around him.
