6: Christmas
It was now Christmas weekend and the Tennysons, Golds and Waynes were heading to Wayne Manor or celebrate. Faith was happy to see her mother and hugged her happily.
Hope then walked happily to her uncle Buggy and hugged his leg as he carried the gifts in.
"Just one minute, Squeaky," Buggy chuckled as he walked awkwardly with her clinging to his leg.
Mrs Tennyson laughed and went to Buggy, helping him with the gifts, "she really adores you that little one."
Buggy then picked Hope up, "I know....she loves the nose."
Caleb hugged Sarah, happy to see her, "I've missed you so much... you look really well, honey."
"I do feel a little better," Sarah tried to smile.
Jr ran to her and hugged her, "Mommy! I missed you."
Sarah knelt down and hugged him back, "I missed you too, sweetie."
Mr Gold came in with Meg. Meg was carrying all the gifts for him, "I got it, dad, really," Meg smiled carrying them in.
"That's good," Caleb smiled.
Buggy then went to Mr Gold, "it's good to see you, dad."
"And you too, son. I wish we saw more of you."
Buggy nodded, "news years resolution, I promise you will."
Gold then smiled happily and they hugged each other.
Meg then went to Sarah and hugged her.
Sarah smiled and hugged Meg.
Suddenly, Mr Gold felt someone tug his jacket. He turned and saw it was his granddaughter Faith. She looked like she grew a little taller now since the funeral. Mr Gold then smiled seeing her.
"Hi, grandpa."
"Hello sweetheart, haven't you shot up."
"Uncle Buggy has been training me."
Gold looked at Buggy.
"Yeah but training won't make you grow taller, princess," he chuckled.
Buggy could tell Mr Gold didn't approve of Faith being taught how to fight. So Buggy left to go and speak to Damien and Bruce and leave Gold with his granddaughter.
"...well it's for self defense, really," Faith said. She then changed the subject, "I missed you." She then hugged him.
"Oh, hello, Bug. How are you?" Damien asked.
"Self Defense is Good. Let's just hope you never need to use it," Gold smiled, "and I've missed you too sweetheart,"
"I'm alright, I guess," Buggy sighed, "how are you?" he then whispered, "thanks for all the help with Sarah, by the way."
Damien nodded and patted his arm.
Faith smiled and let him go.
When morning came for the kids to open their present, Hope and Bo went first since they were the youngest. Hope had help with Buggy and she was opening a present from him.
When they finally had the gift unwrapped everyone saw it was a little pirate costume, complete with a plushie talking parrot and a foam sword.
"Now you can be just like your uncle Buggy!" he laughed as she giggled happily, "maybe I can even take you on my boat someday. If your mommy thinks it's okay."
"Maybe not just the two of you though" Gold said
Buggy was then hurt. He felt his father perhaps didn't trust him with his granddaughter.
"Oh, Mr Gold, I trust Buggy. She is an Uncle's girl anyway." Sarah smiled.
"Ba Ba Ba," Hope smiled holding the parrot. She then looked and she smiled see there was also a foam nose inside.
"Awe, she can be a little clown pirate!" Meg and Steph smiled.
Z got a pirate uniform from Luffy and Buggy.
"How about that, little buddy," Luffy smiled, "you can be a pirate too."
"Looks like we had the same idea," Buggy said to Luffy.
"That's because we are both genius."
"Uh, no. I'm the genius jester. There can only be one."
"Still modest I see, Buggy," Caleb smirked which also made Bruce laugh.
"Oh Sarah, this must be one for you...," Catherine handed it to her and Biggy panicked realizing it was one of the gifts he bought her that he'd accidentally put in the bag with the others instead of leaving it at the house for her to open later.
Sarah sensed it was from Buggy and sensed this was a "special" gift. So she peeked. Her eyes widened. "Oh this was a late anniversary gift from...Arthur...," she tried to look sad. "Oh he's so funny..."
"Awe," Catherine squeezed her shoulder.
"He was always so thoughtful," Gold smiled sadly, not realizing what the gift was.
"What is it, mommy?" Jr asked her.
"GAMES, KIDS??!" Buggy suddenly yelled excitedly, "we've opened gifts, it's time for games I think. Who wants to play some games?"
All the kids then ran to him excitedly. His distraction had worked, thankfully.
"Yeah." She then tucked it away. She then got another one, which was from Faith Jr and Hope. They made a pot for her at Gold's shop. "Awe. Thanks kids."
"Glad you like it mommy" Jr said, but they were busy now helping Buggy set up a board game.
"Nooo I want the red counter...." Buggy whined when Binky took it from him, "no fair!"
Hope tried to get it back for him, but Buggy stopped her, "it's alright cupcake. We'll be yellow," he huffed.
"He really is the biggest kid of all," Caleb laughed.
Sarah giggled at them. She thought it was cute.
After the visit everyone went home and the kids when to their rooms to play with their new stuff they got. Suddenly Faith, Hope and Jr came back down with a box and came to Sarah.
"Another one?" Sarah asked.
"We found these. In the attic. I think they are from Dad," Jr said.
Sarah opened the box and inside were tons and tons of love letters that Arthur made for her back when they started as friends, in a relationship and in their marriage. She then teared up looking at them. "Oh my...these...these are his letters."
Faith and Jr went to her and hugged her.
Buggy took Binky and Lucy outside to play on their new swing set, and give Sarah some privacy with her kids.
"Thank you kids, I miss him so much..."
"We know. We miss him too, mommy" Faith said.
"We do," Jr agreed.
Sarah then noticed one recent like the day before he passed, but she never noticed it. She then opened to read the message.
"Dear Sarah, I know life's been busy lately, especially since the new baby came along, so I haven't written a letter for you in a while. I'm sorry. But I don't ever want you to think that I don't love you. I love you as much now as the day we met, and I always will. I'll forever be yours, Arthur xxxx"
Sarah then broke down reading the letter. Jr and Faith read it together and teared up sadly.
Hope then crawled to Sarah and hugged her arm.
"It's okay mom, we're here" Faith said.
"Yeah, you still have us," Jr added.
"I know...it's just...still hurts."
The children nodded, understanding. They still missed their dad too.
The kids were tucked in to bed.
Hope yawned as Buggy rocked her in his arms in the rocking chair.
Buggy smiled to himself as he looked down at the little girl. She looked so angelic and peaceful
with her eyes closed.
Once she was in a deep sleep, he carried to her crib and set her down beside the buggy doll he and Arthur made her.
He smiled sadly down at her and gently kissed her softly on the forehead. He then went to his room and pulled his suitcase out from beneath the bed, then began packing some of his clothes.
Sarah came in with the bag of his gift. Then she noticed Buggy packing, "B-Bug?"
".....it's alright, I'm not going anywhere just yet. But I will be going away after New Years. Your family and Damien are going to come stay here with you, so you won't be alone. And My dad amd Meg are going to take care of Binky and Lucy."
"...but where are you going?" She was confused, "...and why?"
".....I think I really just need to get away for a little while. And it'll give me a chance to get back out on my ship."
"...you will come back, right?" She walked up to him and held his face.
"Of course. I would never walk out on my kids. Or on you and your kids."
"And how long?" she teared up, but he brushed her tears away.
"I don't know. However long it takes, I guess. I need to work on moving on...."
"...yeah...," she dropped head down.
"But you don't have to worry, I'm going to make sure that you're perfectly safe," he assured her, lifting her face gently.
"I-I know...I just hate for you to leave, but I also understand." She hugged him.
"....I don't think you do. But thank you," he hugged her back, "I'm not just going because of Harley. I'm leaving so I can.....clear my head....over me and you."
"....," Sarah was kinda hurt. She was starting to fall for him, but she didn't say anything. She held the bag tightly, "I-I see..well...goodnight." She quickly went to her guest room so he wouldn't see her cry. She shut the door with her back against it and cried softly against her hand.
Buggy now felt bad for he sensed he had upset ner and that's something he never wanted to do. He went to the guest room and knocked on the door, "Sarah...I'm sorry, if you're upset I never meant to hurt you," he rested his head against the door, "......I have to go because...I'm falling for you...and I know you'll never feel the same way about me."
"...please don't leave...I-I need you..." she said softly.
Buggy closed his eyes, ".....if you really don't want me to go....then I won't."
