Welcome to Starfall
Starfall.
A rather large island off the coast of California, right in the middle of the Californian Channel Islands, on the coastal area, is a town with the same name, the terrain around the town being rather hilly with a few rivers and a mountainous area being quite far away from the town, it's highest point being 889 meters from sea level.
To get there, you would first need to go to the town of Avalon from Long Beach, around a 20 minute ride if the waters are calm and you're using a speedboat, and then, you would need to go to another port on the other side of the island, and then immediately sail back out to go to the island of Starfall itself, the ride being around 15 minutes long, if the conditions stay the same.
Nice people, a beautiful view of the beach and of the mountains...
From the outside, the town of Starfall might just be the perfect place to spend your vacation.
...right?
[September 14th | 2006 | 14:21 | Somewhere on the Pacific Ocean]
A white boat can be seen cruising at full speed through the seas, on the side of the boat, the words 'Voyager 17' can be seen.
The waves are calm, which served the captain and the boat kindly, as the calm and steady waves let the boat reach it's maximum speed without much trouble.
Atop it, the captain is steering the boat, while several passengers are sitting down on various seats, men, women, children, tourists.
It seems like this particular boat is one focused on transport.
After a few more moments of cruising through the sea, a particular island can be seen coming into view from the distance, even from this distance, one could see how beautiful this island was, the beaches had sand colored almost like gold, while rows and rows of old-timey architecture is built on top of the more solid areas.
The boat's speaker system began to let out a little bit of static, and the captain began to speak through the radio.
"Well, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your patience"
"In a few more minutes, we will reach our destination, 'Starfall island'"
The captain spoke, his voice being slightly distorted by the speaker system.
"Even from here I'm sure you all can see the golden-colored beach, beautiful, isn't it? I'm proud to have that place be a part of my hometown"
"...and, I'll let you all in on a little myth, an 'urban legend' per se, about that beach, just think of it as a fun fact- 'trivia', if you may"
"It is said that the color of the sand was normal in the beginning, but after the native 'tribes' of this area did countless 'rituals' on the beach, the color of it supposedly changed into that golden color overnight!"
"I personally have no idea what kind of rituals they were doing, but I sure as hell am grateful to them because that beach has served the island plenty as a tourist attraction!"
"The rituals are supposedly only performed at night, and the tradition has certainly died down nowadays, but..."
"...there are accounts of people seeing 'dark figures' wearing 'tribal clothing' wandering around the beach at night"
"...spooky, eh? Well, I've already taken up enough of your time with my chit-chat, so I'm going to just go back to focusing on driving and making sure the boat doesn't crash, enjoy the rest of your ride, everybody!"
After that, the speaker system let out a little bit of static again, and then turned off, the overall mood has certainly changed after that, it's turned into that of curiosity and intrigue, several passengers talking to each other about these supposed figures.
Talks of ghosts, maniacs, a cult, and of course, aliens began to pop up here and there, however, there is certainly one man that's not interested in this at the very least.
Sitting on a lonely corner of the boat, sat a man with long blonde hair with specks of black mixed in at the top, his clothing consisted of an orange shirt with a black and white checkered pattern, similar to those found on finish line flags that you would find on races and such being on the back of it's arm area, two sets of triangular openings can be seen on the side of the stomach area, one of them being larger than the other, which revealed a layer of black cloth on the inside.
His lower body area consisted of a rather tight pair of black leather pants with the same checkered pattern that can be seen on the arm area of the shirt being apparent on the outer side of these pants, while on the front and back, are a pair of lines that stretched from the waist area down to the knees, these lines similar in appearance to that of roads, and these lines ending in the shape of an arrow.
The man is holding a portable communication radio up to his right ear, his mouth is moving slightly every now and then, he seems to be talking to someone through the radio, but at a volume that will not be heard by anyone else on the boat.
"I can see the island in the distance now, I should be arriving there in a couple of minutes"
The man spoke in a voice that was loud enough that the person on the other side can hear him, but quiet enough so that nobody else can hear his words, his voice was quite a bit on the rough side.
"Good to hear man, the client should be in a place called the 'Wasted Sunsets Hotel'"
The voice on the other side replied, it was a masculine voice, that's for sure, but due to the interference and static and whatnot, the voice was distorted quite a bit.
"I'd personally change the name to something more welcoming, but who am I to judge?"
"Yeah, I bet the place doesn't get many visitors with that kind of name"
The man replied back, as the boat's speaker system continued to let out a bit of static again, and the voice of the captain came back on.
"We are now closing in on the docks, please get ready to get off the boat in a few moments, make sure that everything is neatly packed into your bags and hope that nothing valuable is left behind, that is all"
The captain spoke, as the speaker system let out static again and turned off.
"...well, that's my cue"
"I'll report back in a few"
The man notified the person on the other side of the radio, as he looked around, the people around him had indeed begun to walk around while carrying their bags.
"Got it"
"Good luck on this time's job..."
"...'Jougan'"
The voice on the other side replied, as the radio's signal was cut off, effectively ending the conversation.
The man, supposedly named Jougan, then continued to follow the captain's instructions and stood up, carrying a single suitcase with him as he then began to walk out towards the outer deck.
After he had gotten out to the outer deck, he then began to lean on the fence that prevented the people inside from just falling down into the cold ocean with his left hand, making sure that he hold his suitcase tightly with his other.
"...Starfall..."
"...I'm back, huh?"
...
Jougan Joestar, aged 23.
Born and raised on the island of Starfall, his father was the founder of the town, this status combined with his looks made him quite popular on the island.
His childhood was a rather normal one, however, once he had reached adult age, he decided to move out of the island and onto the mainland, to pursue further education and to get a job that doesn't involve managing the island, to his father's dismay.
On the mainland, he switched from one job to another plenty of times, eventually ending up to become a private detective of sorts, and with the help of a certain man, his business was, needless to say, quite a success.
Now, he's back at his birthplace, after 5 years of working at the mainland, I can't say he's excited about it, but I can't say that he finds it annoying either.
[September 14th | 2006 | 14:32 | Starfall Docks]
The process of getting off the boat and onto the docks was rather... hectic, to say the least, Jougan had underestimated the sheer amount of people that was hurrying to get off, and so, he had quite a rough time being squished inside of the tightly-packed line.
Anyhow, he's gotten off the boat now, and that's all that matters.
The docking area is rather busy, people here and there, some getting off of boats and looking for a taxi to go to the main town, while some others are working here as bay workers, packing and unpacking crates in a seemingly endless loop that went from a cargo boat and into the warehouse.
Jougan then began to walk towards a large clearing which seems to be a parking lot, quite a number of yellow cars, seemingly taxis, can be seen parked on the parking spaces, these taxis were parked with quite a large space between each other, almost as if there was an unspoken rule that the owners of these cars are following.
He had intended to take a taxi to town, but...
"Damn"
He mumbled, as he began to fumble around his pocket and suitcase, seemingly looking for something.
"My wallet really just got stolen, huh?"
Indeed, his wallet was gone, perhaps it slipped out of his pockets in the crowd earlier.
Nevertheless, Jougan is in trouble, the town is quite a long way from here, and he doesn't intend to meaninglessly use his energy on something like that.
"How could have I been so careless?"
Then, Jougan felt someone pat his shoulders, he turned around, and saw that it was a clearly suspicious individual, there wasn't really any proof that the man behind him was a bad guy, but just by taking a look at how he is dressed, anyone would get that impression.
Ripped denim jacket, check, lip piercing, check, blonde Mohawk, check.
"Who the hell is this clearly suspicious individual?"
Jougan thought to himself, as the suspicious man began to talk, closing his suitcase and putting it back into his hands at the same time.
"Hey man... you look like you're in trouble..."
"...you wouldn't have possibly... dropped your wallet or something... right?"
The suspicious man asked, his overall behavior was giving Jougan feelings of discomfort, his hands were fumbling around with each word he spoke, his breathing was ragged, almost heavy, and above all were his eyes, eyes that were seemingly looking at prey, like a Lion to a lonely buffalo.
"...how did you know?"
Jougan replied with another question, a small smirk began to stretch across his face, and his eyes were aimed directly at the man's eyes, almost as if he was trying to establish his dominance over the current situation.
"I thought so... pickpockets are really common around here... y'know...?"
"...so I just thought you were one of the victims... I can help you go to town by riding on my car... if you want"
The suspicious man continued to talk, he pointed towards a white, old and cheap-looking car in a lonely corner of the parking lot as he mentioned his car.
"How about it...? You don't need to pay... I'm not so cruel so as to ask money from someone who just got their wallet stolen..."
Jougan was becoming more and more suspicious of the man, he doesn't know what to believe, is he an actually decent guy that wants to help, or is he just scum that wants to do terrible things to him?
"Yeah, I'll take you up on that offer"
Nevertheless, Jougan accepted anyways, even if this guy was the latter, he would still have the means to dispose of him anyways.
"Alright... follow me..."
The man continued as he began to walk up towards his old and cheap-looking car, Jougan following closely behind.
...
As the two of them reached the side of the car, the suspicious man entered first and opened the front door of the car, the one next to the passenger seat.
"You can leave your suitcase in here... You can sit at the back"
The man suggested.
Jougan was rather... confused by this, but he decided to just follow his words and put the suitcase up front anyways, the suspicious man let out a few creepy giggles as he did so.
He then continued to approach the back door of the car, intending to open the door, only for the car to drive away without him inside it, the dust below the car was kicked up and sent right onto Jougan's face as the car continued to drive off.
Jougan was rather... dumbfounded, he really just got robbed again, huh? And even with a trick as simple as that, he wasn't sure if he should be embarrassed in himself or if he should give the man a round of applause for managing to trick him.
"Hehee... hee"
The suspicious man began to laugh out loud inside of his car, his right hand is holding the steering wheel and driving while his other hand is patting Jougan's suitcase, he is seemingly proud of what he had just done.
"What a retard... even among those other easy to trick tourists... that guy was probably the easiest one so far!"
The man then began to fumble around his pockets using his free hand, and he took out what seemed to be a wallet with quite a unique pattern drawn on it... leopard spots.
"...and I even stole his wallet, too! This was a good day!"
The man continued to talk to himself, beginning to laugh once more as he said those words, he then continued to put the wallet in front of his face as he stopped laughing.
"What the hell kinda wallet is this anyways!? It's ugly as fuck!"
He continued to mock the wallet, oblivious to what's going to happen in a few seconds from now on.
"...huh, so that's where my wallet went"
Jougan's voice can be heard coming from outside the car, but how? The car was going at speeds that not even Usain Bolt could catch up to!
Yet here he was.
Jougan was clinging onto the top of the car, he leaned his head downwards from the roof in order to peek inside of the car from the driver seat's open window.
"You absolute scum, did you really think you would get away with tricking me like that!?"
Jougan asked, his head still leaned down from the roof of the car, well, to be fair, the man did get away with tricking him once, just a few moments ago.
"Wh- wh- wha-"
The man began to panic, his mouth moving in ways that would make one think he was gasping for air, his right hand that was holding the steering wheel had begun to wobble, almost as if he had lost all strength on that particular area.
"HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET HERE!?"
"Sheesh, pipe down already"
"You don't need to know that, for now, just give me my wallet and suitcase back, I'm not here to catch scum like you, I'm here to do my job"
Jougan replied at the man's yelling, he began to stick his right hand down the driver seat's window to reach inside and hopefully get his wallet out of the man's hand.
"Gah!"
The man began to push Jougan's head, he seems to be intending to push him off the car.
"I'm not going down that easily!"
Jougan taunted in response, as his arm waved around the interior of the car, this combined with the man's attempts at pushing Jougan off had made him lose his focus...
...and the car began to swerve down the road, heading towards a downward slope.
The man inside continued to scream as the car continued to swerve, and ultimately begin to flip in the air, a normal man would normally do the same, however, Jougan was calm even though his body is flipping around in the air with the car, his focus at the moment was just to get his suitcase and wallet back.
He sighed, and a robotic, yet ghostly entity manifested behind him, it's body seemingly made out of a dark, and rusting metal.
It's head was rectangular, almost shaped like a CCTV camera with lighter-colored round pipes going from the sides and the top of it's head all the way to it's back, on the front (it's face), a single yellow half-sphere can be seen jutting out of the front, almost as if it was a single giant eye, this 'eye' was being lightly obstructed by an almost knightly mouth guard that covered the lower half of it's face.
The rest of it's body was robotic, yet skeletal, almost like a robot's endoskeleton waiting for a cover to be put over it, from it's spine, three pairs of pipes similar in shape to those on a truck's exhaust pipes extend upwards diagonally onto the back of it's shoulders, almost looking like an angel's pair of wings.
From the figure's shoulders onto it's elbows, and from it's elbows and onto the back of it's wrist, are pipes that arcs above the back of it's arm.
On the sides of the figure's knees, and on the soles of it's feet, are wheels, ones that you would normally see on an F1 race car.
...well, it's not like explaining all this is going to have any point anyways.
What had just appeared behind Jougan is something called a 'stand', 'personal ghosts' that one could use for combat or other utilities.
Only a select few people are able to see these entities, people called 'stand users' who are also in possession of their own 'stands', and Jougan is one of such people.
"..."
"...'Mercury Blues'!"
Jougan yelled out the name of his own stand, it was completely unnecessary, but it was more of a sentimental thing anyways, his body is now right in front of the driver seat's door, if this were to continue, Jougan's body would be crushed by the car.
Nevertheless, as his body continued to flip over, Jougan's stand, 'Mercury Blues', swiped it's left hand vertically in the direction of his suitcase, while it's right did the same, except aiming at his wallet.
Then, small lines similar in appearance to that of highway roads began to extend from Jougan's hands and into the car, these lines sticking onto solid surfaces the moment they came close to one, almost as if they were a drawing, and all of this happened in a single moment, these lines were fast, almost instantaneous.
"Make it..."
Jougan thought, as the space between his body, the flipping car, and the ground began to shrink more and more.
His suitcase and wallet then shone for a moment, and it seemingly disappeared.
"...got it!"
Jougan thought to himself once more, as he then continued to use his stand to punch the car in such a way that it's falling trajectory was shifted to one where he wouldn't get crushed.
A single flip more, and Jougan is now dropped down on the ground, he let out a small retch as his body collided with the ground, sure, he managed to avoid being crushed to death, but falling down onto the ground would still hurt a lot.
"...damn"
"...should've known not to trust someone that looks like that"
Jougan began to stumble around and stood up as he brushed himself off as best he could.
"...ah, right, my stuff"
He mumbled to himself as the lines from before began to travel back to his hands, the suitcase and his wallet appearing in his hands as the line reached his hands.
"Good grief"
He mumbled to himself once more, as he put the wallet into his pocket, continuing to climb up the hill that he fell down from, not even looking back to see the damage that the suspicious man could have possibly gotten from that fall.
As Jougan reached the top of the hill, he looked to the left and to the right of him, no cars, no taxis, although the town of Starfall seems to be close by from here, seems like it's just a few minutes walk.
"...no choice then, huh?"
Jougan began to walk down the road as the smell of smoke began to fill his nose, did it come from the crashed car, perhaps?
Nevertheless, Jougan just continued to walk, his destination being the town of Starfall.
