Under the Sea
This ones really far fetched, I understand if you hate it.
Pony's P.o.V.
I sat on the beach, breathing in the fresh air.
This was the best vacation the gang could have ever taken. It took some time, but eventually we made it to California, and right now I had the pleasure of enjoying the beach alone.
We had rented out a private villa on the beach, which was really cool. I just wished I had a friend to spend the time with.
The closest people to my age in the group were Soda and Steve. Steve couldn't stand me, and Soda would just rather hang out with his best bud.
Darry and Two-Bit stuck together, while Dallas like flirting with all the girls and didn't want any of the guys around to make him seem 'weak'.
I sighed lightly, wishing for something to do.
"What's wrong?" A voice shook me out of my thoughts.
I looked over to where the voice came from, expecting to see a member of the gang, but instead saw a boy with tan skin and curly black hair sitting in the water about ten feet away from me.
"What's wrong?" He asked again.
I flinched lightly and scooted back. "How did you get here?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Got lost, and saw you. You seemed sad."
"Oh..." I gave him a sideways glance, before standing up and walking closer to the strange boy. I sat down on the sand, not wanting to get wet at the moment. "Why don't you come up here and join me?"
He shook his head. "No thanks, I like being in the water."
I shrugged, and decided to wade out to him. "What's your name?"
"Johnny." He smiled.
"Hi," I stuck out my hand. "My names Ponyboy Curtis."
"That's a long name." Johnny said, staring at my hand.
I raised an eyebrow and eventually took the hint that he wasn't going to shake it, so I just set it back in the water.
"I guess it is. Where are you from?" I said, wanting to make a friend, even if this boy seemed a little odd.
"The ocean. I've never really been this close to a human before. It's a lot cooler than I thought! My mama and dad always told me that humans were mean, but so far you're really nice!" He had a huge, cute, and innocent smile.
I was extremely confused. What was he talking about? I stared at him for a second, wondering what he meant. It wasn't until I saw the flick of a fin, when I realized that he didn't have legs.
"Oh my God!" I yelled. "You're a mermaid?"
"I look like a girl to you?" He asked, completely serious. His lips stuck out in a slight pout.
"I mean uh...merman?" I said, correcting myself.
He nodded excitedly. "Yes! Look!" He lifted up his tail. It was long and muscular, with a nice purple color.
My mouth curved up in a smile. "Can I touch it?"
He nodded. "Sure."
Slowly, I reached out my hand and grazed against it. It wasn't slimy at all; it had more of the texture of a basketball. My hand flinched when it moved.
"That's crazy. I never knew that you guys were real." I said in disbelief.
"That's funny," he laughed a very adorable laugh. "we know all about humans. Most merfolk don't like them, but I thought they were cool."
I chuckled, blushing lightly. "So..." The next few hours flew by, as we talked. I asked him questions about his life and he asked me questions about mine.
We talked until Darry called out from the beach house that it was time for dinner.
I sighed and turned to Johnny. "Can we see each other again tomorrow?"
He nodded quickly, grinning. "Yes! I'll be here waiting okay? I can't wait to tell everybody about you!" He gave me a quick hug and then began swimming away at lightening speed.
I giggled and began walking back to the villa.
-
The next day I walked out on the beach, and sure enough, Johnny was there waiting for me.
I half expected my mind to have made him up yesterday and I'd come out and be alone.
But he was just casually floating in the water. He got really excited once he saw me. "Hi Ponyboy Curtis! Hi! I'm over here! Do you see me?"
I jogged over to him. "Hi Johnnycakes, I see you."
He smiled at me and pulled me down, kissing both my cheeks. "I'm so glad you came back!"
I blushed deeply and grinned at him. "Of course. You're my friend."
"I'm your friend?" He asked, genuinely shocked.
"Yeah you're my friend."
"You're best friend?" His eyes looked so excited and so hopeful that I just couldn't say no. I don't know why I would.
Sure I had lots of friends back home, but none of them were really nice enough to call my best friend.
"Yeah," I nodded. "My best friend."
He grinned widely and grabbed my hand. "You're my best friend too. Mermen don't really like me back home. They say I'm annoying, which I guess I am, so it's okay."
"You're not annoying!" I said felt bad. The way he described his home life sounded terrible. "You're a lot of fun...in fact I've never connected with anyone the way I connected with you. Not even my brother Sodapop."
His eyes lit up for a second, but then he seemed sad. "Where is your brother?"
"All of my gang went out to a boardwalk. I wanted to hang out with you though." I said smiling lightly.
"Really? That's so nice! No one is ever that nice to me." He wrapped an arm around my waist and leaned his head against my shoulder.
I blushed again. "Y-you like to hug, don't you?"
He pulled away from me. "I'm sorry, am I coming on too strong?"
"Huh?"
"I like you, and I guess I was being too in your face about it. Sorry." He sounded happy, but the words he was saying were kinda sad. It was odd.
The information he had given me had caught me off guard. "You like boys?"
Johnny nodded. "Yeah, that's why no one likes me. But it's okay because I have you now."
He grabbed my hand and smiled. I couldn't believe that a mermaid--we, merman liked boys! I never thought that he would be the first one I've met that did.
"I won't hate you Johnny. I mean, I like boys too." I squeezed his hand lightly.
"You do? Really?" His grin seemed to brighten the sky.
I nodded. "Yeah, and I you're really nice. I like you too."
"Like as someone you would want to kiss?" He asked hopefully.
I chuckled and shrugged. "We'll see..."
The more days that passed on our vacation, the more I realized that I did want to kiss him.
He was one of the nicest people, I mean mermaid guy, that I'd ever met. I really, really liked him. But I mean, he was a fish. I wasn't gonna stay in California for forever, so I couldn't have feelings for him.
But I did.
I ended up falling in love with him, and I couldn't do anything about it.
Eventually, the dreaded day came, where I knew I would have to tell him that I was leaving.
He was sitting in the more shallow part of water, with his dark hair blowing in the breeze.
"Hey Johnny." I said quietly.
"Hi Ponyboy! Thank you for coming today!" He said excitedly, which just about broke my heart.
"I have some bad news..." I sighed and sat down beside him.
His face fell. "What is it?"
"I'm leaving Johnny. I have to go home." I whispered.
"Oh, when will you be back?" He asked.
I shyly grabbed his hand and squeezed it. "I don't think I ever will be back...I'm sorry. I should have told you from the beginning that our friendship couldn't last forever...I just wish there was some way that you could come with me."
"Well, there is actually." He said slowly.
I looked up at him quickly. "What?"
"If I lay out to dry then my tail will go away and turn into legs. I'll just never be able to get my tail back." He began smiling. "Can I come with you?"
I gasped lightly. "You have a family...you'll never get to see them again."
"That's okay, they don't really like me all that much anyway. Besides, I love you remember? I want to be with you."
My mouth parted slightly. "You still love me...Oh gosh Johnny I love you too. I wanna be with you!"
He grinned ever bigger and squeezed my hand. "So I can go with you?"
"I'm sure Darry won't mind...and if he does we'll figure something out. You can take a bus to Tulsa and I'll sneak you in my room." I smiled and caressed his cheek. "Anything to be with you."
Johnny leaned forward and lightly brushed his lips against mine. Instantly, I felt fireworks. "Can you carry me inside and help me dry?" He asked once we pulled away.
I nodded and lifted him up in a bridal position. His tail felt funny against my skin.
Boy would the gang get a kick out of all this.
I kicked the door a few times and eventually it opened, revealing Sodapop. He stood and stared at Johnny for a few seconds before looking at me. "Pony...got something you wanna tell me?"
"This is Johnny, my friend that I've been sneaking off to see our entire vacation. He's a merman and he's also really heavy so can you please let me in?" I grunted.
Soda nodded slowly and stepped out of the way. I brought Johnny into the living room and set him down on the couch. The entire gang was in there, so naturally we received all of their stares.
Dally cleared his throat. "I think I'm speaking for all of us when I say 'what the fuck?'"
Johnny giggled and waved.
I sighed and began explaining. "Guys, you've all been wondering where I've been going every day, and it's down by the shore to see Johnny. He's a merman."
"So, shouldn't he like...be in water?" Soda asked, still shocked.
"I want to turn human and go home with Ponyboy." Johnny shrugged.
"Please can he live with us Darry? He'll have no where else to go and...and..."
"And I'm in love with him." Johnny grinned and reached out for my hand.
I sighed lightly and smiled. "Yeah...we're in love."
Darry seemed a little flustered, but soon nodded. "Uh, sure. I mean, of course."
I felt myself relax. "You hear that Johnnycakes? You get to come home with me!"
He smiled widely and pulled me down for a hug. "Thank you! My tail will start disappearing soon. I won't have any clothes when it does so..."
"You can borrow some of mine." I told him.
He smiled lovingly at me.
Two-Bit cleared his throat. "So, you're really from like...under the sea?"
Johnny nodded and the gang soon crowded around him, asking thousands of questions.
Every once in a while Johnny would look up and give me and affectionate look.
I sighed happily.
Who knew that this would be how I let my soulmate?
Haha I forgot about this oneshot
