Glen Lantz #1: Part 2
***POV: You go over to Glen's house, so he can help you with your homework.****
10 minutes till the end of the day (Art Class):
It's almost time for the bell to signal the end of the day - thank goodness - and I had just finished up painting my choice of landscape (that was basically what my class and I had spent almost an hour doing). Now I'm finished, I'm doodling weird shit on the back of my hand with my black ballpoint pen.
My pen poised, I looked up at the clock again - it now read seven minutes till the end of the day.
Five minutes...
Three minutes...
One minute...
Drrrriiinnnggg!!!!
My ears rang loudly from how noisy the bell was. I covered my ringing ears with my hands.
"Alright, class dismissed." Said my Art teacher, waving a bangle bejewelled hand, not looking up from her laptop.
I can't actually remember the last time that woman ever actually looked up from her screen.
Taking my time, I got up, slung my bag over my shoulder and walked out of the room with all my classmates. Since I was new, I hadn't got any friends - except Glen of course.
I had only put one converse trainer out of the door when I heard a familiar voice. Turning around, I saw my Art teacher intently playing the Candy Crush Saga game on her MacBook - she was very well off for a teacher.
I quietly strolled over and stood behind her, watching what she was doing. I was impressed to see that she was already on level 34. "You know," I whispered, putting my H/S head next to hers. "You might want to try a different tactic."
My Art teacher almost jumped out of her skin. She turned around in her seat in shock. "Y/N?!" Her face turned beet red when she saw me. "Get out! Get out!" She suddenly yelled, jumping up and chasing me out of the classroom.
I ran out of the colourful room as quick as the Flash before she could fucking murder me.
Giggling, I replayed in my head what I had just witnessed, the door banging shut, as she stalked back in. Fancy my art teacher playing games on her MacBook. I would never have guessed that's what she did with her spare time.
"Walk, don't run." A tall greying haired teacher in checkered slacks called after me.
It was the end of the day, and I was supposed to be meeting Glen, so I just ignored them. They couldn't put me in detention, so there wasn't really any point in listening.
I'd got to the end of the corridor by now, so I pushed open the heavy doors and ran down the stairs, jumping down two steps at a time, praying that I didn't fall or slip down. Getting to the bottom the stairs, I followed the crowd of people who were pushing and shoving to get to the exit.
Finally, I got outside and into the sunshine, a cool breeze on my warm face. It was such a relief to get out of the hot, sweaty school because there was literally like no air conditioning. My rucksack on one shoulder, I looked around for Glen. I really hoped he had waited for me. Then I saw him. He was standing not too far from the steps talking to another girl - I assumed she was his girlfriend. She was very pretty, but I don't know if I liked her. I mean, the energy I was feeling from her was really negative; she was obviously really upset about something.
"But Glen," She said,"Why would you invite another girl over to your house? Aren't you interested in me anymore?" The girl pouted and put her hands on her hips.
"Of course I am, Nanc," Replied Glen smiling at her and taking her hand. "But I promised I'd help my new friend Y/N study for her science test."
Glen's girlfriend (her name revealed to be Nancy) crossed her arms, looking disapproving.
"Um...hi," I walked sheepishly over to the arguing pair, both of whom turned to face me. I felt myself go red with shyness.
"Oh, hi, Y/N." Glen grinned, his top teeth showing. "Um, this is my girlfriend, Nancy, Y/N and Nancy, this is Y/N. She's new to Springfield."
"Hi." Said, Nancy tersely, not making complete eye contact with me, fiddling with the silver charm on the necklace she was wearing.
"Um...beautiful necklace." I offered, trying to make conversation with Glen's girlfriend who was being rather shirty with me at the moment.
She scoffed. "Whatever. Come on, let's just go, it's date night tonight."
Glen's eyes widened, and then he grimaced. It was obvious he had completely forgotten about it.
Nancy seemed to sense what he was thinking. Freeing his hand, she turned around frowning. "You forgot didn't you?" She mumbled, her voice mixed between anger and sadness.
"I - er...."
"You forgot!" She cried. Everyone around us went silent and turned to watch this train wreck play out.
"Nancy, please," Glen pleaded, looking around embarrassed. "you're making a scene. Can we just discuss this elsewhere?"
"No! I just don't you hanging out with another girl, that's all."
Nancy was shaking from head to foot now, tears streaming down her face.
"Look, Nancy," I said calmly. "I understand why you don't want Glen hanging out with another girl, and that's perfectly understandable, if I was you, I wouldn't either, but it's just this once."
Nancy sighed, before turning on her heel and running onto the bus, not looking back.
"Glen?" I asked gently, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"Come on, let's go." Glen started to walk away.

When we got back to Glen's we instantly went upstairs to his room, which was really messy. Pulling out my science book, I dumped my bag on the floor and sat on his bed. He didn't seem to mind. "Sorry about the mess." Glen apologised, kicking off his trainers and dropping his bag with a clunk onto his laundry covered floor. I'm not trying to say anything, but it looked like there was a whole wardrobe on the ground.
"Shall we read and go through the chapter for my test on Friday?" I inquired after some silence, holding up my book, my rolled up hoodie sleeve sliding down my arm and covering my watch.
"Oh, er - yes." Glen now seemed to have come out of his trance-like state. "Sorry, I was just thinking about..."
Glen put his face in his hands and breathed heavily.
I put my book down and comforted Glen, trying hard not to cry myself. I hated seeing my new friend in such pain.
"It'll be ok, Glen." I told him, giving him a sad smile.
"You don't understand, Y/N. Nancy and I have never missed or forgotten date night - I feel terrible." He paused and then sniffed, wipping his snotty nose on his sleeve. "Anyways, shall we study and read that chapter? We both want you to pass."
"Umm..." I hesitated, still grossed out that Glen had just wiped his snot on his sleeve. "Yeah. Err - ok. Yeah, yeah, ok. Let's do that."
As we worked, I still couldn't help glancing at the wet, sticky patch of snot on Glen's right sleeve every now and again. I was very careful too avoid touching it, so every time I turned a page of the book, I turned the page over from the top.
After finishing, Glen and I put some music on and had a good laugh. I danced around the room and waved my hands in the air like I just didn't care (which I didn't). Glen joined in as well at some point, especially when Aha's new song Take on Me started playing loudly on the radio. I was happy that Glen had cheered up a bit.
I hummed along to the tune, as I skipped around the room, my head bobbing from side to side; I stopped when I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. My hearing was quite sharp, so I panicked when I heard someone come up and towards the room. Glen didn't seem to hear though, he was too busy enjoying himself.
"Glen? What's all that thumping?" An older female voice asked outside the door.
Glen sighed and switched off the radio in a huff. "It's nothing, mum!" He replied annoyed. "I only brought a friend over. Now can you please go away and leave me alone?"
"Glen, unless you open this door now, you'll be in big trouble."
Tutting, he yanked open the door, glaring at his brown-haired mum who entered without a 'thank you'.
"Who are you?" His mum asked, seeing me standing there awkwardly.
"I'm Y/N L/N, I've just started at Springfield High." I answered shyly, shifting my feet on the red carpet.
"Oh, well it's nice to meet you." She shook my hand, before looking at Glen and saying: "Aren't you supposed to be seeing Nancy tonight, Glen?"
"No."
"What? Why?"
Glen sighed. "She was upset because I forgot about date night and Y/N, because she didn't want me hanging out with another girl. And I get that, but I'd never cheat on her."
Glen's mum gave him a sad smile. "Maybe next time?"
Glen shrugged. "I guess. Mum, I don't wanna talk about it."
"Okay, okay, I'll leave you both alone." She went to leave, before adding: "If you need anything, Y/N, just ask."
"Mum!"
"Okay, okay." She left the room, before popping her head back around the door. "Would anyone like tea and biscuits?"
"Mum!!!"
"Sorry, sorry, sorry." Glen's mum closed the door and went back downstairs.
"Sorry 'bout that." Glen apologised, rubbing his neck with his hand. "My mum's so embarrassing."
I laughed. "It's ok, she seems cool."
"Nah." Glen switched the radio back on and sat down again, me beside him. "She still tries to hug me and have heart to hearts with me. It's so weird."
"If you think that's embarrassing, you clearly haven't met my parents. My mum still calls me by my nicknames and asks me every night if I want her to tuck me in before I go to sleep."
Glen grinned. "Can I hear some of these nicknames?"
"I'd rather not say."
"Just between you and me? I don't have the best memory, so I'll forget anyways."
I sighed. "Alright. Well my mum calls me embarrassing nickname and embarrassing nickname number two."
Glen threw his head back and roared with laughter. He rolled about on the bed, clutching his sides. "I just can't." He laughed, happy tears streaming down his face. "Ok... I guess that is more embarrassing."
I smiled. I then glanced out the window. "It's dark already?!" I jumped up and rushed over to the window where the flickering street lamps emitted a soft orange glow onto the desolate street below.
"Yeah. Why?"
"I've got to get home."
"You sure you don't want to stay here for the night?"
"That's sweet, but I know my parents would prefer me home, especially since we're new around here."
"Yeah, you're right. Shall I see you off?"
"Sure." Stuffing my book back in my bag, I picked my rucksack up and went downstairs. "Well..." I said, staring into the empty street. "It was great getting to know you. Thanks for inviting me over and helping me study, it was really kind of you."
"No probs. So, do you want to come again some time? I mean, I now I'm still seeing Nancy, but I'd still like to be friends with you."
"Sure. That'd be great to spend more time with you."
"Cool. So...I guess I'll be seeing you at school on Monday."
"Of course. Well, bye, Glen." I thought about hugging him for a moment, but I didn't think it would be a good move, so I refrained from doing it. "Please tell your mum that it was nice to meet her."
"I will." He promised, pulling away. "Bye." He waved as I walked out the door.
I was about to go down the steps, but I hesitated. "Glen?"
"Yes?"
"I'm sorry about Nancy, I really am. I can tell you really love her."
"Yeah, I do." Glen gave me a faint smile.
"Just give her time, she'll come round. I can tell that you're a really good boyfriend...Well, um- I'll see you soon. Bye." I waved and left the house, not turning back to look at him.
***Hope you enjoyed this😘***
