25 Years Later...
~Missy In photo~
I'm now a grown woman with a little girl of my own. Her name is Missy, she's four years old and she's my whole world. Her father, Gabe, left us when he got sick and died, they were tough times but we got through them.
One day Missy came home from nursery school crying because the other kids didn't want to play with her, that she didn't have any friends. That same night as I went to put her to bed I told her the story of Johnny B. Badd and all the adventures we had together.
"... but when I woke up he was gone" I sighed as I told the ending of the story.
"Were you sad?" she asked.
"Very" I said "very sad, but sometimes I can feel him tinkering around in what's left of my imagination."
She stared at me "do you think he'll ever come back to visit?"
"Maybe, I hope he does" I got up from my seat, tucked her in and kissed her forehead.
"Sleep tight, Buggy" I said, using the nickname I had for her.
"Goodnight Mommy" she said.
I turned on her nigh-light as I left the room and shut the door. I went to my desk downstairs and went back to my work on the laptop. I'm a writer now, I write young adult novels. I trying to finish the chapter when I heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
I kept my eyes on the computer. "Can't sleep, sweetheart?" I asked thinking it was Missy.
"Oh so your calling me sweetheart now?" came a teasing voice... a familiar voice.
I turned and saw Johnny, he jumped when he saw me.
"Wow, what happened to you?" he asked me.
I smiled:
"I guess I grew up a bit, huh?" I said, smiling shyly.
"A bit!" he said "Your, like, two hundred years old!"
I laughed. "So why are you here?" I asked.
"Well, I was in you head when I saw a certain memory" he explained. He walked over to me and put his face inches from mine. "Is it true? Do you really have a kid?"
I smiled "yes and she's sleeping so keep it down."
He gave me a mischievous smile:
"No, no! I know that look!" I said strictly "Promise me you will NOT go up those stairs and wake up Missy!"
He looked at me, his smile fading. "Fine" he said "I won't wake up Missy."
"Thank you" I sighed in relief.
"But this trumpet might have different plans!" he said, pulling a toy trumpet out from behind his back. He bolted up the stairs, I ran after him.
When I got up the stairs, he was already blowing the trumpet. Missy woke up and rubbed her eyes. When she saw Johnny her jaw dropped.
Johnny stared at her "Cool! A Little red!"
"Who are you?" she asked.
"I'm Johnny B. Badd, silly!" he told her.
She gasped, smiling, and ran up and hugged his leg.
"Mommy! Mommy! Can we keep him?" she squealed.
"What am I? A dog?" he asked.
Missy giggled, looking up at him.
I stared at the two of them, grinning, she seemed so happy with him. Just like I used to be...
"Hmm? I'm not sure if he should stay..." I said to Missy "Didn't you hear my story? He can be trouble making?"
"I'll keep him out of trouble" she said "Please Mommy?"
"And he's mischievous..." I went on, pretending to think.
"C'mon Mommy!" Missy whined.
"Yeah, c'mon Mommy!" Johnny whined with her.
"I'm still not convinced" I said.
Missy gave me her puppy pouty face, which she always does when she wants something really bad. Johnny put his face next to hers and pouted with her.
I sighed "fine, he can stay!"
"YAY!" they high-fived each other.
"But no playing until tomorrow!" I said "Bed! Both of you! Now!"
"Awww!" they said.
As I left the room Missy looked up at Johnny. "Where do you sleep?" she asked him.
"You got a toy box?" he asked her, smirking.

The two of them got settled for the night and fell asleep. I went to bed too happy that Johnny had finally found a new kid and the best part was it was my kid!
