Chapter two
John did not want to sit next to Thomas. Instead, he sat on his favorite trees tree branch, alone. He looked over past the wooden fence that was painted white.
"I want someone special," He sighed. "Someone who just loves me."
The rooster was crushed. No chicken ever refused to sit beside him. He cast an annoyed look at John, who was sitting alone in his tree. A chicken followed Thomas, love struck by his looks. John saw a fox sprint away into the woods. Maybe one day John would go into the woods and get away from his boring life.
"All the chickens want to sit next to me," Thomas said. "They cluck and fuss, fuss and cluck to be chosen!"
The roosters heart was broken. His handsome feathers drooped. He no longer paraded in front of the chickens singing, "Cock a doodle doo! I may be looking for you!"
John felt a bit bad for Thomas, but he knew the rooster was a arrogant being. John felt sad and lonely. His love must be far, far away from the chicken farm.
"I know you are out there somewhere," He whispered to himself. "Waiting to love just me. But where are you?"
John heard a commotion behind him and glanced over his shoulder back at the barn. A human stepped out from a doorway with a pitchfork. John was not good at deciphering human emotions, but he could tell they was mad by the way they shouted and raised the pitchfork high in the sky. John spotted the fox again, inside the chicken farm.
The human threw the pitchfork at the fox as it ran away. The fox jumped through the fence and sprinted towards the dark foods, leaving a small trail of feathers behind.
