Tale 10 The Fifty First Way Part 2 Bad Moon Rising
The day after every full moon, Lupin would come in completely unshaven and if Isabella was there, he would explain how his friend almost didn't get him chained up in time. He would warn us how dangerous it would be if his friend failed to get the chains on him on the night of a full moon. He lamented he would not be able to control himself and there would certainly be bloodshed. Then he would look menacingly at Isabella and in an ominous voice say, "You have no idea how many young girls I devoured in my youth."
To which Isabella would reply just as ominously, "And you have no idea how many men I've sucked the life essence out of."
Then towards the end of summer on the night of a full moon, Lupin frantically interrupted a conversation between Isabella and Roy. "Roy, I need a really big favor. I let the time get away from me. I need someone to take me home and lock me up right now. We haven't much time." Lupin hustled Roy off his bar stool and out of the bar without giving him much of a choice.
The next evening, Lupin came in to the bar with his clothes in disarray, a distressed look on his face and ketchup in his beard and all over his hands and clothes saying, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry!"
Isabella got an exasperated look on her face said, "Look if Roy doesn't want me to follow him to Sacramento, he just has to say so. He doesn't have to fake his death."
"I'm so glad to hear that," Lupin said as he went into the men's room to clean himself up.
I knew Roy was just working up here for the summer and would be going back to Sacramento when the work up here was done, but I knew nothing about the plan he and Lupin had devised to facilitate his break up with Isabella. I could have told them, "You don't need a plan Stan and you don't need to be coy Roy." As Paul Simon said there must be fifty ways to leave your lover. I bet Paul never considered faking a death by werewolf.
