Introduction Dreams

All Men have several dreams in common. Dreams of sex, flying, unlimited wealth, and did I mention sex? Perhaps not as frequent as dreams of sex, but just as pervasive is the dream of owning and running a bar. If you haven't had this dream yet, you are probably under the age of thirty and your dreams are of the more active variety and mostly about sex. Of all these dreams the only truly noble one is that of tending bar. All the other dreams are selfish. Bar tending is inherently altruistic. It is literally about serving others. Alliteratively administering ale, adages and advice. Bountifully bestowing booze, bon mots and banalities. Lovingly laying down libations, learning and lore. Wisely withholding word whimsey? Sorry, words are so much fun, but I digress – a lot — really a lot. Now, where was I? Oh yeah, dreams.

Psychologist tell us dreams are prompted by our unmet needs. That certainly explains the dreams of sex and why no one ever dreams of psychologist. No offense to psychologists, but we are talking about very real needs. Psychologist might argue that bars hardly constitute a real need. I would argue back that it falls into the category of the need for self-actualization, a term probably only psychologist think they understand. Fortunately, I don't need to argue with psychologists very often. We don't get many of them in the bar. My bar is for the truly wise and perceptive; basically, it is a working man's bar. Far more edifying elucidating, and entertaining than the ivory towers of academia haunted by psychologists. Sorry, I digress – again.

So, ignore the alliterations and digressions, prepare for twisted tales, raise your refreshment receptacle and toast to tomfoolery. Welcome to Joe's bar where dreams come true — sort of. Cheers!
