Hang Out
The sun shone through the window as Randy studied for his class next week. It's the weekend but he has to study for his mom's sake. But his mind wondered about the conversation he had last night with Nomicon as the ninja.
A few hours ago...
Ninja swings towards the sakura tree and lands next to Nomicon as quietly as possible. Apparently not quite enough as Nomicon hits him with his bamboo staff.
"You're 5 minutes late, ninja. If you're late to come to the battle you'll risk losing other's life. Don't be late and stay on time, understand?" He said and pokes Ninja's head. Ninja only groaned.
"Fine, let's start training so we can talk." He said and was about to fight but Nomicon stops him.
"Ninja, we're not gonna train for tonight. Just by judging your eyes, I can see you're tired since afternoon. Did you work or something?" He asked a bit. Ninja nods his head.
"Yeah, I was making dinner, then finishing my homework, cleaning my room, and living room, checking the ventilation system, helping my mom with other chores, then trying to sneak out to meet you. All in... 15 minutes." Ninja said and sat down tiredly, breathing heavily. Nomicon nods.
"I understand, I'll give you a break for tonight. But, I won't until you've done your training next time. Understood?"
"Yeah, I understand." Ninja smiled under his mask and pat the ground for Nomicon to sit down. The teacher sat next to him on his knees, in the Japanese style.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" Nomicon asked, looking at Ninja casually but focusing on his facial expressions. Ninja thought a bit.
"Well, how are you? We haven't met in 3 months. I guess the Sorcerer was having a vacation and the McFist industries were so busy they didn't have time for that old man." Ninja laughs a bit. Nomicon nods gently.
"Well, I'm doing well and thinking about the training that you need to do next time. You still have the Nomicon book right?" He asked, taking his own book. Ninja holds his copy of Nomicon's book.
"Yeah, right here. Pristine as ever." He said proudly.
"Don't get cocky, ninja. This book is important. By the time your ninja duties are done, you must give the book to me. I still can't believe I agree to help you by your side with a copy of the ninja Nomicon book." Nomicon sighed at the Ninja. The student only chuckles awkwardly. Nomicon thought this might be a good time to ask.
"Say, ninja? Have you ever got a crush on someone?" He asked with his poker face. Ninja was a bit surprised but nodded.
"I do have a crush on someone, why? You have a crush on someone too?!" He beamed in excitement. Nomicon only looks away.
"Yeah but I don't know if it's real or just a crush. I never felt... Emotions before until I met you. Apparently, there's still a lot that I don't understand." He said, holding his book with a dimmed look. The ninja doesn't even know if that word even existed.
"Hey, you don't have to worry about it. Whether you have a crush or not, as long as you love them for who they are it's worth loving them as if you're living. Just give yourself a chance."
Nomicon thought it was the same thing Rachel told him when he was Nomi. Give yourself a chance huh? He wasn't sure if he deserves it.
"I see, thank you, ninja."
Flashback ended.
Randy wondered what Nomicon meant when he asked that question. They must be on an emotional train and get confused. Randy knew it can happen sometimes. He closed his textbooks and walked downstairs to see his mom drinking coffee. And by judging the coffee jar next to her, Randy suspected that she drank at least 3 mugs of it.
"Mom, lower your caffeine intake. You'll get a risk of caffeine overdose and will experience side effects like experience hallucinations, cardiac arrest, and falling into a coma." Randy said and took the coffee jar away, putting it somewhere else. Ruby looks down and sighed as she walks to the dinner table and fell asleep immediately.
"Mom..." Randy looks at her work and tidies it up so it'll clear her thoughts a bit. He organized it by which is important and not, stacking it up and setting it to the side. He cleans the kitchen and serves his mom some toast and some water on the table before kissing her forehead and walking upstairs with a worried look.
"Mom... I only have you left, I don't want to lose another family member..." Randy said to himself and rest his head on the table. A few minutes later, he got a text from an unknown number. Who is this?
Hey, Randy. I'm wondering if you want to hang out today.
Who is this? And how did you get my number?
My apologies, it's me, Nomi.
Randy jumped up in surprise. Nomi?! How in the world did he get his number? And most importantly, why ask him, the nerdiest student to hang out with the hottest guy in school?!
Um, answer my other question, please?
Right, I got your number from Stevens. You can text him for confirmation.
Okay, one moment
Randy immediately texted Stevens for confirmation and load and behold, it's true. Stevens did indeed gave his number to Nomi. That son of a b-
So, Stevens told me yes. Why did you ask me to hang out with you?
Two reasons; one, I wanted to get to know you, and two, I wanted to discuss the project at hand. I hope it's okay with you.
Sure, where do you wanna meet?
I was wondering if we can meet in the cafe downtown a few meters from the school. If I'm not wrong it's "Café Noir".
Randy stopped a bit and checks the location of the cafe. It's nearby the school and a walk won't be so bad. Plus, he can get his latte. It's a win-win.
Okay, I'll meet you at the cafe now. See you in 10 minutes
Nice, I'll meet you there. I'll also bring the novel I borrowed from you so don't forget to bring a bag of some sort.
I won't forget, no worries
Very well, see you later Randall.
Okie dokie, Nomi ;)
Wait wait wait! Randy didn't mean to send that emoji. Oh no, Nomi might see him as a weirdo, and it's permanent! Dang it, why can't SMS have an edit feature?! He could've edited the emoji to a smiley emoji. Nomi on the other hand chuckles at the text and decided to go along with Randy's text.
:)
Randy blushed at the emoji and sighed in relief. Nomi is going along with it, that's good. Randy grabbed his bag, kiss his mother's forehead, have her a note about his absence, and rushed to the cafe by running. It may be far but walking/jogging is good for your health, why not? It'll boost his cardio. He saw Nomi waiting for him next to the cafe, holding the novel that Randy enjoyed.
"Nomi! I'm here!" Randy smiled and breathes slowly to catch his breath. Nomi chuckles at the boy's attitude. How sweet.
"You're 2 minutes early. That's impressive." He said and took Randy inside the cafe for some tea and snacks. They both ordered 2 ice teas, one latte, 2 slices of chocolate cake, and some apple slices. Nomi gave Randy the novel back and Randy checks it. Pristine, impressive.
"I enjoyed the story, I may want to borrow it again," Nomi said as he drank his tea. Randy smiled and put his book inside the bag he brought.
"I'm glad, apparently there's gonna be a sequel to the story. I'm so excited!" Randy beamed in excitement, similar to the ninja. Nomi thought it was a coincidence.
"I thought the princess died. How come there's gonna be a sequel?" Nomi asked and Randy explained about the possibility of the child's personal life.
"I see, interesting." Nomi chuckles. Randy giggles and made Nomi blush at it. His giggles are so, cute.
"Well, about the project thing. I was wondering if we can take a break from it. We have to send it by next month right?" Nomi asked curiously, eating his cake. Randy nods.
"Yeah, apparently so," Randy said. He doesn't want to stop hanging out with Nomi. This project is the only time they can talk to each other without being weird. Nomi can sense Randy's bad mood and feeds him some apple slices.
"Say Aaah." Nomi teased. Randy giggles and eats the apple slices happily. Oh well, better to spend some time together while they can.
"Is there anything you want to do?" Nomi asked, finished eating and waiting for Randy. The nerd nods and shows him two tickets to Whoopee World.
"Howard was supposed to come but his dad and sister made him go for extra tuition on weekends. It'll last from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, then he has house chores until 9:00 pm. The carnival last from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm so... Wanna come with me instead? I'm sure Howard doesn't mind." Randy said, then stops to think.
He just freaking asked Nomi Conikus to a carnival! It must be boring and too childish for Nomi's liking. Randy is sweating a bit after realizing what he just said, but was surprised by Nomi's response.
"Oh, I never went to a carnival before." Never? As in, never went into the games or like that?
"As in what?" Randy asked. Nomi chuckles.
"As in I never went to a carnival at all." He answered and Randy immediately stood up, paid for the meal, and took Nomi to the carnival immediately. Nomi looked at his watch, at 6:39 pm. Guess they can have some time there.
"Nomi, I'm taking you there and letting you have fun. It's one of the best carnivals in Norrisville! Please play there not just for me but for yourself?" Randy asked, his puppy dog kitty cat eyes revealed. Just like... The Ninja.
"O-okay," Nomi said, his heart beating a bit as his eyes were locked with Randy's blue orbs. Was it always this blue? At the carnival, they played many games, relax on the rides, and finished the day by winning a game with a prize and a ride on the Ferris wheel. The view was beautiful and the starry night sky was making the scenery romantic.
"Thanks for the fun time, Nomi. Today was the best day ever!" Randy said, holding a toy plush Nomi had won. He didn't want to plush so he gave it to Randy and honestly, it made him feel good and happy.
"Thank you for your invite, Randall. It truly was the best day I had." Nomi said, looking at the sky. Soon, fireworks started shooting up in the sky and Nomi gleamed at the beauty of it. Although, the sound is too loud for his liking.
"I feel bad for those with sensitive hearing. They had to suffer from this..." Randy said while hugging the plushie tightly. Nomi held Randy's hand and caress it gently.
"I understand, I feel bad for them too. Maybe one day they'll create no noise fireworks." Nomi said, chuckling. Randy giggles and looks at Nomi with his blue eyes, and Nomi stares at the orbs as they leaned closer to each other.
And closer...
And closer...
And closer.
Then, a spark happened. As the biggest firework went up to the sky, they both share a spark in their hearts.
A kiss.
