I published a new Benny Rodriguez fanfic; Swing and Miss, so make sure to read that!

Don't think that Benny and I are dating just because I kissed him on the cheek. This story isn't that sweet and simple.

I got home and quickly apologised to my dad because I forgot to tell him I was going out for awhile.

"Sorry dad! I didn't think to come and tell you where I was going!" I shout as I'm running up the stairs.

"That's okay," he says.

I walk in my room and shut the door. I walk over to my window which has a perfect view of the Sandlot. I think about what happened today and shake my head.

I don't like Benny anymore than just a friend. I meant it.

I walk over to my bed and curl up under the covers. I close my eyes and fall asleep.

I open my eyes and smile.

It's summer. And I start my new job today. I jump out of bed and grab my red bikini. I slip jeans and a black t-shirt on before brushing my hair. I stuff my bikini in my bag before putting the bag on my shoulder. I run down the stairs and hug my dad.

"See you later, dad," I say.

"Where are you going?" He asks.

I look over at him.

"I have that summer job, remember?" I ask.

"Right. Ok, go ahead."

I nod and run out of the house. I start running towards the pool until I'm finally there.

"Hey Jocelyn! Ready to start your duty as lifeguard?" Wendy asks me.

I nod.

"Ready as I'll ever be," I say as I walk into the dressing rooms. I change into the red bikini and stuff my clothes in my bag.

"Here's your whistle," Wendy says, handing me a whistle on a red string.

"Thanks."

Squints and Yeah Yeah finally run into the sandlot.

"Where have you guys been? We've been waiting here forever already!" I say.

"Ah, Squints was pervin' a dish," Yeah Yeah says, putting the baseball in my hands.

"Shut up, I wasn't," Squints says.

Yeah Yeah points at him.

"Yeah yeah you were! Your tongue was hanging out of your head, and you was swoonin.' Oh Wendy Peffercorn, my darling lover girl, oh!" He says.

"I said shut up! I got a lot of things on my mind!" Squints says.

Ham walks up to me.

"This pop isn't working, Benny. I'm baking like a toasted cheese-it! It's so hot here!" He complains.

"It's one hundred and fifty degrees out there! You can't play baseball! You gotta call it for the day!" Squints exclaims.

"You gotta listen to him, man," Bertram says.

I roll my eyes.

"Vote then! Anyone who wants to be a can't-hack-it, pantywaist, who wears their mama's bra! Raise your hand."

Everyone raises their hand and I throw my hands up.

"Fine. Fine! Be like that. So what are we gonna do?" I ask.

They all look at each other smiling, except Smalls.

"Scam pool honeys!"

I would've played baseball all day. All day, all night, rain, shine, tidal wave, whatever. But anything other than baseball, going to the pool was what I tolerated best.

We all jump in the pool and start playing around. Smalls jumps on my back but I do a flip and he slides off. Everyone stops and looks up at the lifeguard tower. Or to be specific, up at Wendy Peffercorn.

"I've been here every summer in my adult life. And every summer there she is. Oiling, lotioning, lotioning, oiling. Smiling," Squints says.

I pull my attention away from Wendy only to hear someone say something.

"Jocelyn! You're on break!" I hear a guy yell.

Jocelyn?

"Cool!" I hear a girl shout.

I look around until I see Jocelyn in a red bikini. I swear my face is as red as a tomato.

"Guys, Jocelyn is here," I say.

They all look to where I'm looking and their jaws drop.

"That's just great," Kenny says.

She spots me and waves. I wave back as she dives in the pool. She swims towards us and smiles.

"We gotta stop bumping into each other," she says.

I chuckle.

"Um, y-yea," I stutter.

"So why are you here?" Ham asks, giving her a wink.

"I'm a lifeguard here," she says.

We all look at Ham and back to her.

"Wow."

"I cant take this no more! Move!" Squints shouts.

He pushes us out of the way and steps out of the pool. He walks over to the diving board at the deep end and waves at Wendy.

"What's he doing?" Smalls asks.

"I dunno but that's the deep end and Squints can't swim!" Kenny exclaims.

"Well I'm off duty. Can't do anything about it right now," Jocelyn says.

We all look over at her and she puts her hands up in surrender.

"I was joking!"

We look back over at Squints only to see that he jumped in the pool.

"Squints!" We all shout.

Jocelyn follows us as we jump out of the pool. Wendy dives into the pool towards Squints as we run over to the diving board.

"Squints!" We shout again.

Wendy pops out of the water with Squints in her arms. A guy lifeguard grabs Squints while another helps Wendy out of the pool.

"Should I roll him over?" A lifeguard asks.

"Never mind, never mind!" Wendy says, leaning over to perform CPR on Squints.

"Come on Squints!" Timmy shouts.

"Come on Squints, pull through bud!" Smalls shouts.

"Come on!" Tommy exclaims.

"Come on man, come on!" I shout.

"Please wake up, Squints!" Jocelyn shouts.

"God, he looks like a dead fish," Bertram says.

Almost right after, when Wendy has her head on his stomach, Squints opens his eyes and smiles.

"Huh?" We all ask.

He closes his eyes until Wendy blows in his mouth again. He grabs her head and kisses her.

"Wendy!" Jocelyn shouts.

Wendy pulls away and squeals.

"Little pervert!" She yells.

"Aww man, he in deep shit!" Timmy shouts.

Wendy pulls Squints up and runs out of the pool area with him. She throws him on the grass.

"And stay out! All of you boys are banned forever!"

"Wait Wendy!" Jocelyn shouts.

"Yes?" Wendy asks, seemed to calm down.

"Can Benny and Smalls not be banned? Please?" I hear Jocelyn whisper to Wendy.

None of the other boys seemed to hear but me and Smalls.

"Sure. But not the kid with the square glasses especially!" Wendy shouts.

Jocelyn looks at the two of us and winks. She walks back in the pool with Wendy while I grab my clothes.

"You guys he planned that! He knew what he was doing!" Ham shouts.

Good going, Squints.
