Guarding Mr. Brown

Mayor Smokey Brown is a well respected politician in New York City...

And he is in immense danger.

Messina explains to Evander at the boat docks of the island, "We have reason to suspect that mayor Smokey Brown is in danger of being attacked by a vampire. You are to serve as a bodyguard to him and ensure no harm comes to him."

"Why would they attack Mr. Brown?" Evander inquires.

"Most likely to send a message to the Joestars," Messina elaborated, "A message that no one is safe from their lord Dio. Though I do wonder, how are there new vampires? Could there have been another stone mask we didn't know about?"

Messina shook his head, "It doesn't make any sense..."

He collected himself, continuing to elaborate, "In addition many of Dio's followers are stand users."

"A what user?" Evander asks, confused.

"Stands are the manifestation of the fighting spirit," Messina explains, "Only stand users can see stands. If you are attacked by something that cannot be seen, this is likely the work of an enemy stand. You are to call for back up immediately."

"Understood," Evander nods.

Evander gets on the boat to leave, heading for the location of his mission...

A vampire stalks the streets of New York. In the dead of night she hints for her prey. A pink mist fills the air around her victim, a fit, middle aged man walking down an alleyway. A black cat hisses and flees as the unholy creature approaches. The man turns around to see the figure, and smiles, unaware of the fate that will soon befall him.

He inhales the pink mist, and even in spite of the woman approaching, fangs bared, he feels no fear. He hisses and opens her mouth, the man blissful and not resisting as she bites into his neck. He laughs as she drains him dry of blood, leaving behind nothing but a shriveled corpse. She spits on it, speaking with a deep hatred, "Subhuman filth... good riddance..."

And just as quick as she appeared, she's gone into the dead of night, just as Evander arrives at Smokey's office...

Evander was greeted by the mayor, a tall, fit, African American man in a suit, in the lobby of the mayor's office. Evander stood up and took Smokey's hand as he offered a hand shake, "You're that hamon user?"

Evander nodded, "Yessir, it's an honor to meet you. I've heard you've done great things for this city."

"It is a mayor's duty to do what's best for his people," Smokey chuckled, "I've done no more than what I'm supposed to do."

"Sometimes that feels rare," Evander conceded as the two ended the handshake, "So, thank you for your service Mr. Brown."

"It's truly no trouble," Smokey assured, "I heard you smoke, would you care for a cigar?"

"I quit," Evander corrected, "Made a promise."

"I respect a man with such will power," Smokey grinned, "In truth that question was a test of your will." Smokey lead Evander to his to a large black limo outside as he explained, "We are in a lot of trouble Evander, trouble I hope you can help me with."

"To the best of my ability," Evander assured.

Smokey sat across from Evander in the limo, speaking in a more serious tone away from prying eyes, hands clasped together and a darkness over his eyes, "As you are no doubt aware, the sun sets quite early this time a year, and I suspect there are two vampires after my life. I will be making a speech to assure my people that the recent vampire attacks, they believe the acts of a serial killer, are under control. In order to ensure their safety, I will be acting as bait. You will be handling the issue to ensure they do not harm anyone else."

"Are you sure that's wise?" Evander inquired, "Putting yourself at such risk?"

Smokey nodded, "It is my duty to protect my people, Evander, and I will fulfill my duty until I am no longer mayor, and continue to do right by everyone I can even after my time in office ends."

Evander nodded in understanding, "I will protect you with my life."

"Thank you," Smokey smiled, "You will be paid when the task is done."

"Paid?" Evander asked.

"The Speedwagon Foundation does not expect you to work for free," Smokey replied, "Were you not informed of this?"

"With room and board already provided," Evander explained, "I assumed there would be little to no further compensation."

"You assumed wrong," Smokey elaborated as the car came to a stop, "It's likely that they will attack from backstage. Please keep the mess out of sight."

Evander nodded, "You got it."

Evander awaited backstage as the sun fell under the horizon, it took only minutes for a menacing presence to approach. A large figure loomed in the shadows, a little over six feet with green eyes and body bulging with muscles, with fangs that matched the length of his arms.

"I suppose you're not willing to talk things out?" Evander offered in earnest in spite of the futility.

"That man has gotten in the way of Lord Dio and the future of mankind for the last time," the vampire growled, "Jotaro and Joseph will never defeat lord Dio, and we shall usher in a new age, we shall reach Heaven."

"Heaven?" Evander demanded, "What are you rambling about?"

"A new age in human evolution will soon be within our grasp!" The madman rambled, "Spiral staircase! Rhinoceros beetle! He will figure out the rest of the steps, and we will evolve humanity for when that day comes!"

The vampire charged, lunging forward with reckless abandon. Evander easily sidestepped the attack and sneered, "Tch, that's all you g-"

Then, suddenly, the vampire's arms snapped in half, shot at high velocity several inches forward, connected by only the veins. Blood flew from Evander's face as he was sent flying back, struggling to his feet as the vampire laughed, "To reject humanity is to surpass it. We have mastered the human body, fool!"

Once more the vampire's arms extend in a grotesque display of unholy power!

ゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴ

Evander steadies his breathing, when he once more felt that familiar tickle in his throat, that scratching in his neck.

And he coughed.

His hamon was dispelled.

"No," he gasped, "Not now dammit!"

"A hamon user with a cough!" The vampire cackled, "What a joke! I'll kill you before you even so much as catch your breath!"

The undead creature threw a punch which Evander tried to avoid, struggling to catch his breath. He realized that his throat was to dry now to maintain hamon breathing and that he needed water or anything to moisten his throat in order to fight back.

The undead threat charged once again, Evander ducking under his fist only for him to extend his arms once more and knocking him to the ground. He coughed up blood and struggled to catch his breath as the vampire leapt into the air and slammed down on him, extending his arms for a killing blow which Evander narrowly rolled out of the way of. The vampire retracted his arms once more as Evander collected himself, spotting a pipe above him, beyond his reach.

He sneered, now having a plan. He leapt into the air and struck a pipe with two middle fingers, "Is that all you got? Are you a vampire or just some pale shut in?"

The vampire screamed and shot his arms right at Evander, breaking open the pipe! Evander ducked under the attack and guzzled down the water from within. The dryness left his throat and he could at least breathe. Air filled his lungs and hamon flowed through his arms.

The vampire began to retract his arms only for his veins to be grabbed by Evander, the arms collided with Evander's fists, causing the vampire to scream in pain as blood splattered. Evander smirked, "See you in Hell!"

He sent hamon through the creature's veins, frying it from the inside out and causing it to explode! Covered in the blood of the undead, he sighed with relief, looking over himself, "Yuck. Nasty."

He rinsed the blood off his hands with the water from the pipe as he pondered the recent encounter. So this was the power of the vampires, even with hamon, they were very dangerous, and this was but a low ranking grunt.

"What have you gotten yourself into this time Evander," he muttered to himself before Smokey finished his speech and returns backstage.

"Ah," he declares seeing what remains, "Well, thank you for your service, Evander."

"My pleasure," Evander nodded.

Smokey elaborated, "Two block down, a room at a nice hotel has been reserved for you, please rest and clean up, you will be paid in the morning."

"It's been a pleasure meeting you," Evander reached out for a handshake.

Smokey reciprocated, "As it has with you, Evander. Rest well."

With that Smokey left, leaving Evander to walk down the street towards the hotel, he turned down an alley, only to find it filled with a sweet smelling pink mist, a woman standing over a man's corpse, who turned to look at him.

A vampire.

Her face turned to shock, and she muttered, "Shit..."
