my letter to you pt. 3

Inspiration: This is officially the last part of my letter to you. I believe this series is lacking some romance? So I tried to input more into this part. This honestly took way more time than it should have, but I hope you guys will like it! [Part 1, Ep. 6]

Relationship: Jim/Reader

Summary: In which, Jim receives back his letter from you as promised and reads it himself. He wondered how he would ever give you something so embarrassing.

He collapsed in his bed after what felt like forever that night. He probably had an hour or two before the sun came up but if he could get some shut eye, he would. Despite the outcome and managing to out-match his opponent tonight, there was still the dangerous topic of changelings walking the surface of this earth, but he figured he could put it to rest until it became urgent once again.

His head turns to face his desk near his bed. The opened letter was sprawled across his desk with its envelope not too far just like it was over a day ago. He didn't know what came over himself to open the letter and read the contents despite knowing what it contains already. When he came from the arena where his friends were waiting for him, he was half surprised to see the unopened but crinkled enveloped shove back to his chest. Another part of him was relieved since this meant you never read it. You might think differently about him and he didn't feel like he was ready for it.

Toby wasn't that much of a surprise though. He was expecting it honestly since he knew his friend so much. Toby hugged the life out of him when he returned and wouldn't let go for a good while. Once his friend let go, you were there to hug him too, voicing your concerns and fright when you watched the fight, but you were proud of him for making the right decision. What's funny was you were the one who helped him make the right decision, but Jim was too busy shoving down a blood rush to his cheeks to think rationally at the time.

Lazily, he slapped the closest page on his desk and pulled it towards himself. His eyes looked up to it when he held it above his head. His eyes were drawn to 'I love you' at the end of his note. He thought it was unfair how you were practically the only one who didn't open your letter. He was sure even his mother would have opened her letter once she found it. He told himself that he would give you the letter once more but under a different circumstance.

He did say his life was yours after all.

Would you have done differently?|

I'm going to convey as much as I can with this letter, but understand at least this much, you and Toby mean the world to me. I wouldn't know what to do without you guys, but you have helped me understand who I am. Without you, I am not me. I wouldn't have been the Jim Lake I would be today. When I hated my name because it reminded me of my father, you gave me a new name to go by; a new life, and I would dedicate this life to you if I could because I am yours.

But the time we have together was shorter than how I expected. I wish I could runaway from this life I walked into. I wanted to give up, but you helped me push through. Even now, as I'm preparing for my first and final fight, you refused to waver as I remember you standing outside my house. There were times I felt you were wrong, but this time, I hope you stayed right.

I love you.

Yours truly,
Jim Lake Jr.
