Your POV

I'm the CEO of a pretty popular real estate company. Being the founder and all has its perks, but it drove a pretty big wedge between my family and me. Once I started working more and was making enough money, they thought I was above them. So they shunned me from the rest of the company. I've secretly put money aside for my parents, in case anything happens. Though I don't think they would want to see me, even if we were the last people on the planet.

Hearing my heels click on the concrete outside of my office building, I snapped out of my thoughts. Reaching the door, grabbing my ID tag, and swiping it into the door. Hearing someone behind me, I turned to look. Holding the door open as I saw it was one of my workers.

"Thank you, ma'am," he said as he followed me into the building.

"David, I've told you, call me (y/n)." Glancing at him as he turned to his office, he nodded gently. He nodded though I knew he would still be addressing me by "ma'am" by lunch. Sighing gently, reaching to push the button for the top floor after stepping into the elevator. Adjusting my grip on my briefcase handle, looking down for a moment. What was I to do? Live the rest of my life entirely alone because my own family believes that I'm too high and mighty now? Suppose I could just become a cat lady, and adopt all of the cats in the shelter.

Hearing the familiar ding of the elevator reaching the floor, I waited for the doors to open and I stepped into the hallway, immediately getting greeted by my receptionist.

"Good morning," she said as she looked at me.

Following me, she listed off everything she had been told this morning. "You have a couple of meetings today, and the Hapsburg Real Estate Company countered our offer, for the building on the corner of Second, and Washington."

Sighing gently I nodded. Opening the door to my office, I put my briefcase on my desk and took off my jacket, letting it sit on the chair. "Counter Hapsburo's offer, raise it a couple of grand and see what happens. I will call their CEO if I have to, they know damn well that building is in my territory."

Madeline nodded gently as she wrote things down. "I also got a call before you came into the office, someone wants to see you in your office," she said.

Raising a brow I looked at her. "Did they leave a name?" I asked. Shaking her head I furrowed my brows, and looked out the tall windows in my office. "What time are they going to be here?"

"They should be here after your phone meeting at 11," she said. Nodding I dismissed her. It was already 10:00, I had an hour before the phone call. Sitting at my desk after hanging my coat in the small closet, I powered my computer on for the day. Looking at who was here on time and who wasn't, I decided I would send out an email, warning those who got here late. My company has a three-strike policy. If you're late three times in a specific amount of time, then you're out. I won't take excuses, most of the workers do very well about this. Though I do get that one straggler that tries to test it.

Can't remember the number of times I've had Daddy's girls and spoiled sons start working here, and then they try and get out of the strikes. Those kids have so much learning to do. Crossing my arms as I leaned back in my chair, I decided to check on some things before I took the phone call.

I must have zoned out for that hour since the sound of my phone scared me. Making me jump, I answered it after clearing my throat. "(y/n) Carrey, from Carrey Real Estate," I said before standing up and closing the door to my office. Looking out the window as I stood there I listened to the other people on the phone.

"Good morning, Miss Carrey. We're here to discuss the stocks that we bought in your company, during the fall of last year."

"Yes? What about them?" I asked.

"Since your business is doing remarkably well, we would like to double the stocks we share."

"You want to double the stocks? Well, I'm sorry, but I can't do that."

"Whatever do you mean, Miss Carrey?"

"What I mean is that I have a set amount of Stocks for my company. The other companies that I'm affiliated with make up, of about 50% of those stocks. If I give the all-clear and double your stocks, then I would have to double everyone else's stocks. You do understand don't you?"

Listening to the counter offers on the other end of the phone call, I sighed gently. They weren't taking no for an answer. Never understood that about businessmen. They always want to put a price tag on everything. Not for me. Hearing my door open, I rose a finger towards it, telling whoever it was to wait a minute. I was standing in front of my desk by the time I could finally end the call. Putting the phone back on the stand, I looked up to see my dad.

"Daddy?" I asked as I looked at him. I was shocked, I thought neither of my parents wanted to see me again.

"Hey, peanut," he said gently. Smiling at me as his brown eyes wrinkled on the sides. He grew his beard out again. He used to grow it out when I was still back at home, though this time there was a lot more grey in it.

Leaning on my desk as I was in shock, I watched as he walked over to me, that smile still on his face. "What are you doing here? I thought you and Mama didn't want to see me anymore." I said He nodded gently before he grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug.

"I know, Princess. A couple of your Aunts and Uncles had been telling us that you were too good for us since you were making so much money and a name for yourself. Your Mom and I tried not to listen to them, but we were forced to after a while."

Smiling gently I looked at him, hugging him tightly. "I've missed you. I really thought I wouldn't get to see you again." I said. He smiled down at me before kissing my forehead.

"You always have been a Daddy's girl." He paused for a moment before he let me go. "So? How about letting your old man take you out for lunch?" he asked as he looked at me. Smiling gently I nodded. "Sounds good to me." Walking to my closet, I grabbed my coat and slipped it on. Following my dad into the main area for the floor, I went to Madeline's receptionist desk. "Mads, I'll be back after lunch," I said.

She nodded and waved as she saw us leave. Getting into the elevator we went down the stairs to the main lobby. Getting to the front of the building, I followed my dad towards his car. He always did love that Cadillac. "Why am I surprised you still have the caddy?" I asked as I looked at him.

He chuckled before he opened the door for me, helping me into the seat, he closed the door and walked around to the other side. "Have you been keeping an eye on your mental health?" he asked and I nodded gently.

"It had gotten pretty bad after you guys cut me off entirely, but it's been getting better." Giving him a small smile before he nodded in reply. Opening the passenger door for me,  thanking him before sitting in the seat, buckling in. Watching him walk around the car, getting into the car and starting it after he was buckled in and ready to go.
