Inspired / based off the song 'Where's My Love' by SYML. Listen to it whilst watching, it is the most amazing song ever.

James lay at home on his bed, his eyes closed. To anyone who might have come in, he would have looked like he was sleeping, but his mind was whirring.

Oh, where's my love?

'James,' Sirius whispered, at the door. 'James. I know you're awake.'

James kept his eyes tightly closed. He was curled into a ball, his hands clenched into fists, face pressed into the pillow that still smelt of her.

Cold sheets, oh, where's my love?

Sirius leant against the doorframe, sighing lightly. 'Okay. You don't want to talk, I get it. But me and Remus are in the other room if you want to talk, you know.'

James didn't respond. He didn't want to see Sirius and Remus in all their couple glory, those light touches and long eye contact...

No.

Sirius was gone, and James was alone again. Tears leaked from beneath his closed eyelids, and he bit down on the pillow to avoid making any sound.

Don't wanna cry, but I break that way. Oh, where's my love?

****

Lily turned her phone around over and over in her hands. There was a tiny cut on her finger, and she touched it absentmindedly.

Does he know that we bleed the same?

She'd gotten it when she'd broken a mug in Marlene's kitchen. That's where she was now... Marlene's house.

Marlene was an expert on broken hearted people. She practically had a degree in the subject, after being in love with a gay and now married Sirius Black for years and years.

She pressed on James' contact, smiling at the happy picture of the two of them on top of the Eiffler Tower. She'd wanted to go right to the top, but he'd been too scared until she'd convinced him with a few kisses...

Lily tossed her phone away from her, and it landed with a satisfying crack on the floor.

Maybe she should search for James. She didn't know where he was... he could have gone anywhere, done anything after she'd gone.

He could have been reckless, done something dangerous. Her leaving would have broken him, Lily was almost sure, just like her leaving had broken her.

Did you run away, did you run away?

But she had to. She had to, didn't she? Because their relationship was toxic.

Toxic.

She'd lied, and he'd lied, and their lies had somehow muddled together and became a huge ball of resentment. And he... he'd...

But....

If it was toxic, why was she so devastated now?

Cold bones, yeah, that's my love.

Lily lay down on Marlene's spare bed, staring at nothing unblinkingly.

Had she just ruined everything?

She lies awake, like a ghost in the night...

*****

'James.' It was Sirius again. 'You have to eat something.'

'I have to do something,' James mumbled. 'She could be anywhere. We shared a house. Where would she go, now that we aren't-'

He couldn't form the sentence.

I'm searching high, searching low, in the night...

His phone started to ring. James blinked, and then blinked again.

PETER, it read.

The worst part was that James didn't even know what he'd done. Sure, he'd lied a little... he'd said things he didn't mean. But surely not enough to warrant that?

What she'd done?

Maybe it had all been a misunderstanding.

If you ran away, if you ran away, I don't need to know.

James accepted the call without even blinking. 'Peter,' he said, voice sounding dead even to his ears.

'James,' Peter squeaked. 'Look, I'm sorry, mate.'

'Sorry?' James repeated.

'Look, Prongs, I was drunk, okay? And you know Snape, once he gets going it's hard to stop him, you know?'

James sat up in his bed.

I don't need to know, just come home.

'What?'

'Well,' Peter hesitated. 'I- I called up Lily, you know-'

'I don't know, Peter, that's the entire point!' James felt rage, suddenly, rage welling up inside him.

What had he done?

'I told her that you cheated on her,' Peter started. 'But, Prongs, I was drunk, and-'

James had dropped his phone and was on his feet in seconds. Sirius, who had been standing by the door again, jumped. 'James?'

Remus, alerted by Sirius' voice, came walking through the hall. 'Prongs? Padfoot? What's going on?'

'That-' James couldn't find the words. 'That absolute-'

'What?' James couldn't tell which one of them had said it. Maybe both. Maybe neither, he didn't care.

His coat was lying on the floor, and he pulled it on, grabbing his phone as he went.

Lily was out there somewhere. Maybe she'd gone to Marlene's, or Alice's, or Frank's, or someone's. She couldn't be out there alone.

But still, doubt was curling into James' mind. What if she was out there alone?

What if she'd run away?

She'd seemed pretty hurt when she'd left.

If you ran away, if you ran away, come back home.

'Peter told Lily I slept with someone else,' James growled, stalking past Sirius and Remus. 'That little-'

'What?' Remus grabbed James' shoulder. 'James, think this over. What are you doing?'

'Don't you understand?' James turned to face him, and all of it- all his raw sadness, all his pain- was written plainly on his face. 'She could be anywhere, doing anything. She thinks- oh, God, she thinks...'

He couldn't finish.

'I have to tell her.'

'Can't you just-' Sirius shook his head. 'Call her?'

'Would you call Remus?' James demanded, pushing past them both and starting to open his apartment's door. 'If you thought he was out there, alone?'

'Yeah, but Lily's probably at Marlene's or something, mate. And anyway, that's different. We're married.' Sirius shrugged.

'Well, I'm going out there,' James snarled. 'I have to find her.'

I got a fear, oh, in my blood...

'Don't you think this is a bit of an overreaction?' Remus called after him, but the door was already shutting.

James was gone.

Oh, where's my love?

Word count- 1010

I don't have a clue what the fuck this is. It's bad, that's all I know.

Part two, maybe? I'm having serious writer's block for everything else that I'be started. I need PART 2 of the Superhero AU and the college prompt, but... eh.

Hope you enjoyed!
