Moonlight (part two)

Lily scrubbed the blood from the towels which she had used when performing stitches on James as she instructed him to lie on the couch until she got him so pain killers.

Her mind was buzzing over what had just happened. She couldn't believe she had just kissed James Potter. She'd barely acknowledged she fancied him except for the twinges of jealousy which popped up when the thought of his new found girlfriend crossed her mind.

And now she'd kissed him. She'd stared at those lips many a time with a hint of longing but she never expected this to happen when he was meant to be kissing someone else.

But out of anything, what she couldn't believe most is that he kissed him back.

She'd thought he was besotted with Matilda. That's what Alice had said.

She felt so guilty.

Why was she smiling?

She saw the deep red colour run out of the cloth she was rinsing and reminded herself she had more important things to worry about.

She strained to look back at James, not suprised to see he wasn't asleep. But a little auprised to see his hazel eyes trained on her. She gave him a small smile and prayed there was no colouring appearing on her cheeks.

She moved on to the next cloth in her hand, worried to see that it was also completely bloodstained.

She already had her suspicions of what caused this wound.

She strained hr eyes back to him. He was looking into the window trying to mask his expression.

After the last cloth, Lily sat down on the single couch next to his. She almost reached to put her hand on his, but she pulled back realising her mistake.

"What happened, James?" Lily asked slowly.

He looked down for a moment, his hazel eyes not quite meeting hers. She brought her hand to her face, rubbing her temples. "It's a full moon tonight, isn't it?"

James's head popped up in surprise, confirming her worries. Lily was too busy cursing to herself to respond to his questioning look. "I can't believe I forgot. Too wrapped up in my own stuff I guess." She mumbled along with some other choice words.

James shifted to sit up in his chair, although failing to do so without a slight wince in his expression.

"You know?" He asked softly. Glad he wasn't going to have to explain this situation to her. She let out a very strained laugh.

"Please, I've known since fifth year. You lot aren't the only one's who worry about their friends. And it was exactly hard. I mean 'Moony', really?"

There eyes connected for a moment. James clearly couldn't help being amused. Lily felt a slight anger form on her expression.

"But what the Merlin do you think you were doing prancing about with him?" She said slowly.

James flashed her a weak smile. Lily narrowed her eyes further.

"We were just-" Lily's expression dropped suddenly as she grabbed at one of the many thoughts circling her brain.

"Remus is never going to look you in the eye again if he knows he hurt you. You know that right?" Lily began, speaking extra fast, her brain working into overdrive. "Oh Merlin, you're going to have to-"

James placed his warm hands on Lily's shoulders.

"Calm down." He said looking into her wide green eyes. "Listen to me okay. Remus didn't do this to me." He began slowly.

Lily's face was a painting of confusion as she stared back at James. He took this as a sign to continue.

"Let me explain. We were out. In the forest and yeah, okay, maybe we did go a little further than we should've. We were bordering onto the woods which connect to Hogsmede I think."

Lily shot him a condescending look.

"What? I wasn't exactly keeping track. Was a little preoccupied you know?" James mumbled defensively.

Lily rolled her eyes and James couldn't help feeling over the moon (ha) about how well she was taking this news, considering. Only a roll of the eyes, James had thought she'd be yelling by now.

His brow furrowed as he continued the story. His worries flooding back to him. The worries which Lily had taken away with just a small smile.

"It all happened so fast. I guess we weren't really expecting it. But suddenly there were a rustle from not far off. Then all of a sudden a high pitched howl."

FLASHBACK.

The wind was rippling through the night, silence prominent around the group when a familiar sound erupted through the night.

James knew they were in trouble as soon as he saw that no such thing was coming from the hunched figure in front of him. Sirius and him caught eye contact. Conveying one thing through their eyes. Fear.

To their horror. Soon the wolf in front of James replied back. Letting exactly know where they were.

Then everything spiralled from there.

Werewolves usually travelled in packs, especially since Voldemort was rallying troops. That's why they weren't particularly surprised when three fully grown wolves erupted into their small clearing.

They had held out. Thinking they'd probably be fine, the animal form worked for Moony right? And they were right they didn't attack them. The stared, locking eyes for a moment. Then the largest one took a step and pounced on Remus.

From then on everything was a complete blur. James only having an idea what was going on in the brawl of claws and teeth when he felt a long nail dig into the back of his fur.

In the end all Peter, Sirius and James could do was get away. The three clearly knowing their way around the area much better then the other three.

Although relief only cam when they heard a howl of a familiar werewolf making its way hurriedly through the woods not far off them. Only one pair of footsteps, not three. Which meant Remus had tackled his way out as well.

FLASHBACK OVER.

Lily's eyes were wide with shock. She spoke so softly.

"Troops in the woods?" She paused, taking it all in. "Voldemort's really taking over isn't he?"

James nodded his head. He hated talking about this with her. At last, she took his hand.

"Sirius and Peter... How did they not notice your...?" She gestured to his back.

James shrugged.

"Too dark out. Plus when we came back in we staggered it so if we'd gotten caught if wouldn't be together. I was kinda hoping the cut wasn't this bad."

Lily nodded. Finally understanding what had happened. She had become so engrossed in his story, she hadn't noticed how close together they sat.

She didn't think she'd ever looked at James this long without distraction and maybe that's why she'd never noticed how full of life and real he was.

Before she could stop herself she leaned in more, yet she didn't have to go far. Ignoring the part of her brain which was screaming MATILDA inside her brain.

She placed her lips on hers once more. Only half full of guilt but this time having little intention to pull away. Because this felt right. The moment felt right. Everything she felt toward James felt right and she couldn't comprehend that anyone could ever feel this way towards James except her.

Her potion essay was forgotten in those early hours of the morning as she kissed James Potter.

When they did break apart, James face was lit up like a flame because she really never failed to make him smile. Lily breathed out, trying to catch her breath.

She couldn't help herself as she saw the expression on James face.

"Don't you have a girlfriend?" Lily teased, but real concern dripping into her voice. James eyebrows creased together and looked at Lily like she was a mad women. "Matilda? You know the girl I always see you with by the lake?" Lily asked, appalled he didn't seem to remember his own girlfriend.

Yet James let out a loud laugh,
"I'm actually just helping her with transfiguration." He pointed, attempting to hold back his laughter. "McGonnagal asked me to help her. I'm her tutor."

Lily went as red as her hair.

"I'm going to kill Alice." She muttered as James was still laughing. She couldn't help but laugh a little as well as the sunlight filled the room in the early morning hours.

"But at least I guess I free to do this again then." She said quickly before James could argue (although she didn't think he would) and connected her lips with his once more.

{Finally. I'm certainly not happy with this but at least a finished it. Sorry it took a while but I've sort of had writers block about writing this next section. I actually set myself up for a hard job and originally was having James tell Lily the whole story with Remus which took forever to write and was all over the place so I'm glad I finally found a way (sort of) to get around it.

ANYWAY hope you enjoyed and comment what you think :). Feel free to leave prompts/requests.}
