Falling Off Broomsticks and Potion Brewing

Lily inhaled the fresh scent of cherry blossom. Of course, she'd loved the scent ever since her trip to Japan when she was eleven. She leaned in for another whiff, this time old parchment smell was caught. Like an old book. That was obvious, one of her favourite things to do before reading was smelling the book. A little strange sure but she loved it. Finally she leaned in for a final scent, curious what it could be. Lily looked around the room before she inhaled, all the other students were doing the same. Transfixed from the scent wafting from the sweet potion. Apart from a few students at the back who were holding their nose while getting a stern talking to from slughorn for apparently adding two times the needed ingredients.

Lily went back to my potion eager for the final scent. She took a deep breath and was shocked yet she still cherished the scent. The scent itself made her feel warm, dry and safe. She couldn't really explain how a smell makes you feel like that but this one did. Sort of like if you smell fresh cookies baking and you know, you just feel safe because it's just so at home? But then again not really like that as the smell was also quite alluring.

The problem was Lily couldn't quite put my finger on the scent. It smelled faintly of soap but also nothing at all like so. Honestly, it reminded her of freshly washed fur or something but she had no idea why that would be. Lily was about to lean in for a stronger scent when Slughorn realised that the class was becoming to go a little drowsy from the love potion.
"Right, that is enough everyone. Place your lids on your cauldron at once. I will come around to mark them after class. You are dismissed." Professor Slughorn said. He gave Lily a warm smile which she returned. She'd always quite liked the old potions master.

"Merlin, I could sniff that stuff all day." Marlene said dreamily at dinner, while stuffing a good sized piece of turkey leg in her mouth.
"The day they make that stuff into a perfume is the day I go broke." Alice agreed.
"Thats actually not a bad idea. We should get a patent on that." Lily put in. The group laughed softly.
"What'd smell like for you guys." Marlene asked, mouth full. Alice's eyes turned dreamy.
"Beach air, Strawberry lotion and" She paused letting out a small giggle. "Frank."
"Really Alice?" Marlene asked laughing. "And what does 'Frank' smell like?'
"I don't know." She sighed. "Just Frank."
"I think that potion has got her a bit lovey dovey" Lily whispered to Marlene but loud enough so Alice could still here. Marlene laughed.
"Hey!" Alice said defensively, but she was smiling too. "Well what did yours smell like Lily? James?" Lily gave her a well practised glare. They both knew she didn't like James anymore than a friend. Well actually Lily didn't know how she felt. Her feelings had been a bit topsy turvey lately.

"If you must know my Amortentia smelt like Cherry Blossom, Old books and well washed fur, sort of like a horse." Lily stated.
"Um when did you start loving animal fur so much?" Alice asked.
"Your guess is as good as mine." Marlene shrugged.
"It's probably got to do with some childhood memory you had."
"But how is that meant to be alluring." Lily reasoned.
"Shhhh, don't put logic into my statements. You should know better by now." Marlene said. The group burst out in laughter. Classic Marlene.

The next morning Alice had dragged her along to a quidditch game. HufflePuff vs Gryffindor. As she was watching the match, Lily couldn't help but notice how many goals James was scoring and she swore he kept looking over here... Wait. never mind that thought. She was content ignoring her feelings. Suddenly, when James sped passed the stands to go for a goal. A scent wafted over to Lily of clean fur... Oh god. Oh god. Lily's first thought was 'I liked James?!' Not just liked, he was one of the scents of her Amortentia. Her second thought was 'why does he smell like fur?' She nearly fainted in the stands. Well he did look rather good in his quidditch robes...

Get those thoughts out of your head Lily! She thought as she smacked the upside of her own head. There by receiving a weirded out look from Alice.
"Beating yourself up over James, hey Lils?" Marlene whispered in my ear. Lily blushed before she could stop herself because she had caught her out. Realisation spread over Marlene's face. "You are!" She exclaimed.
"Keep it down will you." Lily said as she blushed harder.
"Not until you admit it." She teased.
"No." Lily protested.
"C'mon Lil, I'll give you my mash potatoes at dinner?" Marlene baited. Oh no. Marlene knew how much Lily liked mash potatoes.... It couldn't hurt could it? Just admitting it out loud. I mean it was just Marlene.
"Fine." Lily whispered. "I like James Potter. A lot." She added while looking down.

When Marlene didn't reply, Lily looked up to see a microphone in front of my mouth. The whole stadium was looking at her in shock. Oh right, Marlene was commentator. Marlene was staring at me mischievously. And Lily swore if looks could kill, she would've murdered her on the spot. Suddenly someone snatched the microphone from her. McGonnagal.
"Now as touching as that is, James just fell off his broom so could someone please go help him?!" Lily scanned the Quidditch Pitch to where James was on the ground. Looking very dazed but with a wide smile plastered on his face. Lily giggled a little. A second later Sirius Black was riding his broom up to where she was sitting.

"You like James, you like James." He said teasingly. Lily laughed along with him at his childishness but then suddenly his expression hardened. "But seriously Lily, couldn't you told him at a different time? The poor bloke just fell off his broom in shock! He's been waiting for this moment for years!" Marlene and I bursted out in laughter. I was a bit giddy from the whole experience. Thats when another broom caught my eye. It had two figures on it. The front one was McGonnagal and the other one was rather slumped.
"I'm sorry Lily but James here refuses to go to the hospital wing before he sees you." She said irritably.
"Wicked flying skills Minnie!" Sirius interrupted. McGonnagal ignored him.

Lily tried hard to contain her laughter when James sat up groggily. He had a rather large egg formed on his forehead but was smiling wider than ever. She laughed a little and soothed his hair back, avoiding the bruise.
"I like you too Evans." He sounded a bit delirious.
"Please, call me Lily."
"Lily." He said with an even wider smile than before.

{Idek where this one came from it's got to be the most random, rambly one I've ever written. But I hope you enjoy it anyway! So I'm starting at a new school soon so I probably won't be able to update as much but I'll do my best :)}
