Asleep. (Part two)

-James

I awoke to the blaring sound of my alarm clock. I reached to turn it off immediately. Still an hour until breakfast anwyway. You see, I do this thing in the morning where I wake up but my brain doesn't function properly until about an hour later. So when I lay back down again to feel a warm presence beside me and a mop of fiery red hair, snuggling against my chest, I didn't think much of it. Besides, it felt right with her next to me. Lily started to sit up and even though her hair was a mess she still looked downright gorgeous. She also seemed to be half asleep. "Morning Lily." I whispered and kissed her forehead. Forgetting the fact that we were just friends and I had no idea how she winded up in my bed. Also she's hated me for the last five years.

But Lily just smiled softly when I kissed her and turned her face towards me.
"Morning." She replied, now placing a sweet kiss on the lips. Now, if i had been fully wake I dont know what I would've done next.; Probably frozen in the spot for the next few months because Lily Evans had just kissed me. On her on free will. At this point my brain was warming up and a goofy smile expanded on my face although I wasn't sure why. Lily just giggled a little (yes giggled) and we both lay back down to our previous cuddling sort of position. A few minutes passed and we were both content in eachothers arms when I felt Lily suddenly tense. And when she tensed, I tensed because I think that was the moment we both knew something was wrong. A moment later we jumped apart as if we had been zapped. My brain (still clogged) was having absolute hell trying to process this situation. All I wanted to be doing now was sleeping.

"Okay, so I'm really confused." I said breaking the silence. Lily's eyes were wide and she was blushing madly. Besides from embarrassment, I also detected some guilt in her eyes. She sighed.
"Merlin, Im really sorry James it was my fault." Still confused, I titled my had. "Can we talk about this later?" She asked as I saw her eyes quickly flicker done to my bare chest. Right, I didn't sleep with a shirt. Suddenly I felt really self concious. My head was still spinning and begging for more sleep. "So look, I'm really confused right now but i'm dead tired and I just really want to sleep right now if thats okay." I mumbled softly. Lily nodded a little, still in shock I think and I lay down.

I had intentionally phrased my sentence saying she didn't have to leave if she didn't want to. I sensed her still perched on the end of the beg, probably still deciding what to do. I felt the weight shift on the bed and I knew she had stood up. I'd assumed she'd left the room. I was shocked to find her in my arms again seconds later, curled up against me once more. It was then that I realised I liked sleeping a lot better with her curled up beside me. It was then I realised I loved waking up next to her a lot better. It was then I realised I wish that this could happen for the rest of my life. It was then I realised we'd actually, properly kissed. It was then I realised that we were't even together.

-Lily

I was eternally cursing myself while I lay once agin in James's arms that morning. I fell asleep! How was I mean to explain this to him without admitting I liked him and I needed the comfort of the fact he was still alive. And I had kissed him, square on thr lips! Although I hadn't really been conscious of what I was doing, I'd still done it hadn't I. It just felt so right waking up in James's arms. Waking up to the blaring clock which he hastily turned off, to then great me with his classic lopsided grin and gently kiss my forehead. I've always liked guys he kissed the girls forehead. It just felt like such a sweet gesture.

I hadn't realised last night James wasn't wearing a shirt. That was a bit awkward at first as I had to constantly remind myself not to stare at his abs. I mentally sighed. I just wish I could stay in these arms forever. Ten minutes ago I had heard James's breath slow down into his cute way of sleeping style. I glanced at the clock on his bedside table. Five minutes till breakfast. I should probably go. I managed to slip out of James's arms without waking him. I proceeded to slip into my room to get changed.

I was about about to leave the heads common room when I noticed James's door was closed. Usually when he went out he left it open. (Yes I notice these things). I walked slowly towards the door, unsure if I should open it. I decided to act on impulse and I slightly opened the door. I poked my head through to see a very fast asleep James with his arm around a space that used to be me. I'd assumed he had set another alarm clock so I hadn't thought to wake him up. Whoops? Well this is going to be awkward. I sat down on the edge of the bed and shook his shoulders a little. His eyes stayed closed but I heard him mumble. "In a minute Sirius." I rolled my eyes and shook him harder. He groaned.
"James Potter wake up this instant." I saw him tense when he realised that I was infact not Sirius and he smiled with his eyes still closed. "Yes Ma'am." He whispered. I let out a small laugh and stood up. "See you at breakfast." I whispered and he nodded, his eyes still closed.

I sat down next to Marlene and Alice at breakfast who were unfortuantly sitting right next to the Marauders which meant James would be bound to sit in the empty spot directly in front of me. Oh joy. Alice and Marlene were in the middle of a deep conversation of the perfect way the eggs were fried when James entered the Great Hall. To avoide awkward eyecontact, I was forced to join in. Unfortunately for me, my plan failed when our conversation decided to connect with the guys conversation. I tried to participate and listen without looking at James too much but when the conversation turned to kissing I became very focused on my bacon.

"What about you Lils?" Asked Alice, forcing me to look away from my beautiful bacon which I had come quite attached to thank you very much.
"Huh?" I asked. Yes, intelligent response I know.
"When was the last time you kissed someone?" She asked while wiggling her eyebrows. Every bodies eyes were on me and I felt myself blush madly. I looked around at everyone to see James was avoiding eye contact. At first I was confused and then I remembered the reason why I had become so attatched to my bacon. Technically, James and I kissed this morning. Oh. What would I say? Would James get offended if I lied? I went with the easy way out, praying Alice wouldn't push more questions. I raised one eyebrow.
"Recently." I said.
"Oooh Mysterious." Sirius remarked. I sent a joking glare in his way. "Seriously though, at least tell us who it was." He annoyingly pursued. I forced myself not to blush.
"Fine, he's sitting very close to us. That is all you're getting. Thank you and goodnight." With that I plopped my bacon in my mouth, did a quick bow and briskly walked away.
"I'll find out who it was Evans! Also it's morning!" Sirius yelled across the hall.
"It's an expression Black." I responded.

-James

After Lily left, Marlene and Sirius teamed up to find out the mysterious man.
"Prongsie, you gonna help us?" Sirius pleaded.
"I've got a Potions essay to do, sorry mate." I replied. I felt sort of bad for lying but I couldn't really help Sirius find out who was the last guy Lily kissed when it was in fact... me. I grinned at the thought. The last person Lily Evans kissed was me. James Potter, the boy who had been pursuing her for years. I hoped it didn't die in vane. I prayed we wouldn't just continue to ignore it like we did at breakfast which I have to admit we just totally avoided eye contact the entire time. In fact, at one point I was beginning to think Lily rather fancied her bacon.

The day continued with not much happenings. Unless you count Sirius and Marlene going 'undercover' to find out Lily's 'recent' kiss. They even looked up the dictionary definition of recent. I mean really. They'd also drawn a graph of the dictionary definition of 'near' students that were sitting near us this morning and went around asking them if they'd kissed Lily Evans lately. They all said no of course. I'm just really glad they didn't ask me. I didn't know if I could lie directly.

I was lounging around the common room not bothering to do anything because I had head duties in a twenty minutes. I was chucking my snitch in the air when Sirius and Marlene approached me. 'Prongs. Guess what?" Sirius said enthusiastically.
"What." I sighed. I'd had a hard day and my mind had been on override with the events of this morning.
"We've narrowed it down to five guys." Marlene said, quirking her eyebrows. Suddenly I got nervous. 'Please don't be on that list.' I prayed.
"Who you got?" I asked casually.
"Okay so. First on the list, Evan Ice, 6th year but honestly I doubt Lily is interested in him." Marlene started.
"Next we have. Peter but once again I highly doubt it. I just can't find him around to ask him." Sirius said irritably. I laughed out loud at the thought of Lily kissing Peter.
"Riley Rollart. He was sitting just a few seats away and when we asked if he had kissed Evans he got really flushed. He is in our top three suspects." Marlene continued.
"Maybe that was because you asked him if he had kissed a girl he has a crush on?" I pointed out.
"Shush Jamesie, don't interfere with our master logic." Sirius pouted. I was beginning to feel guilty that I hadn't told them. But I don't think Lily would want me to?
"Cooper Yon. I swear I saw Lily staring at him the other day." Marlene pointed. "And finally, just for precautions of course, J-" I knew where this was going so I interrupted.
"Marlene, you know you are her bestfriend why don't you just ask her? She'd probably tell you in private anyway."
"James! Shush I want to know too."
"Don't you have an idea who she likes anyway?" I asked hoping that I'd fine some clue in her face who it was. But she just pursed her lips.
"I suppose. I'll go undercover tonight. Try to get it out of her." Marlene concluded.
"Hey! What about me?" Sirius whinied.
"Why don't I try to get it out of her tonight, Okay?" I jumped in. I was definitely gonna talk to Lily about it as I was still pretty confused myself.
"Fine." He huffed. I glanced at the large, ebony clock. Five to nine.
"I've gotta get to head duties, see you in a bit." I said. As I was walking away I heard Sirius yell.
"Remember to try to get it out of her!"

Lily and I were five minutes into patrols when I finally broke the awkward silence which had uncomfortably rested around us. "So are we going to talk about this or....?" She sighed.
"Yes, I do suppose you deserve an explanation." She said. I nodded. Her cheeks had already started to turn a rosy colour. "Well recently I've had a lot of trouble sleeping." She started with a shaky breath. "I kept having visions of Voldemort standing in front of me with all my friends and family at his feet. You were there too. Dead." She whispered. Oh well that explains it. Poor Lily. That was all I really needed to know but she continued, rambling now. "And I sort of needed the comfort of knowing you were still alive so I snuck into your room and sort of accidentally fell asleep. I mean your arms were just so strong and warm. I was just so tired and I sort of like you and-" My eyes grew wide and Lily clamped her hands over her mouth, realising what she had just said. "I mean-" I interupted her with a sweet short kiss and wrapped my arms around her.
"If you ever get scared or whatever again fell free to come to me." I whispered in her ear. I could feel her heart beating and the warmth of the flush on her face. "Also." I said retreating from the hug. "I like you too." Honestly I actually sort of love her but you know, that's a bit forward right? Lily turned a deeper shade of red but she had a smile on her face. "So er.. are we going to tell everyone we kissed? Cause Sirius and Marlene are going crazy trying to find out." I asked.
"Oh we'll tell them alright. I have a plan." Lily said mischeviously.
-
"Now you're thinking like a marauder." I said impressed. She smiled.
"I do like to surprise."
"So do I." I winked. I picked her up bridal style and she gave out a little squeal. "Lily Evans will you be my girlfriend?"
"Of course."

-Lily

I was estatic as I walked to breakfast. I can't believe I was James Potter's girlfriend. I would never have thought I'd be in this position a year ago. Although I couldn't imagine James being the person he is now a year ago. Once I got to the place where my friends were sitting I noticed a very angry Sirius and Marlene. "Lily Evans we are officially going mad! Just tell us who it is already!" Sirius yelled.
"Oh you want to know do you?" I asked sweetly.
"Yes! No one will tell us anything." He sighed. "You refused to tell Marlene and/or James." I saw James trying to stifle a laugh. Remus noticed and looked at us with realisation on his face.
"Fine okay, okay."
"Thank you." Sirius sighed. I took the empty seat next to James and was about to begin my breakfast when Sirius interuputed. Again. "Just tell us then!" I shrugged.
"Sure." and with that I leaned over to kiss James square on the lips which he happily obliged to. I swung my arms around his neck to ruffle his hair and he was holding my waist. We pulled apart to see shocked faces (apart from Remus who had a smug look) around the table but thirty seconds later cheers and one roar erupted.
"PRONGS WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?" Sirius yelled, outraged. The group erupted in laughter. A lot of "About times." Were said and relationship jokes. Eventually the conversations slipped away from the new couple.

Halfway through breakfast James slipped his hand under the table to hold mine. Because I suppose the biggest next adventure in life is following your heart.

-{So this is sort of long (for me seeing I have an inability to write long stories.), rambly one but it was good because it's sort of something new. I hope you all like it! Also it's late because I saved it as a draft two days ago and just realised now I didn't publish. whoops?}
