James POV

Finally. Today. It's the Hogsmeade trip. The day I take Lily out. I was going to have to impress her a lot. At the moment we are just friends, but today is going to change everything.

I put on a clean shirt and a pair of nice jeans. I got out a tub of hair gel and started fiddling with all my hair. I looked at my watch. It was 40 minutes until I had to meet Lily. I bit my lip. I was definitely nervous about today.

I heard a shriek from next door that sounded oddly like Marlene followed by about 5 people giggling. I guess that all the Gryffindor girls had come to get ready with Lily. Maybe she was taking this as seriously as I was.....

Lily POV

Marlene's constant shrieks and giggles weren't helping my nerves. Although todays 'date' was just as friends, I still couldn't help wondering if James had set his hopes up for today or if he was taking this extremely seriously.

Marlene, Dorcas, Mary and Alice had been ecstatic when I told them and now they had sat me down and dressed me up, my floor was covered in clothes, makeup, nail varnishes, shoes and other accessories.

In the end Marlene, taking charge as usual, had decided to dress me casually to show that I wasn't taking it too seriously and try-hardish, I was not desperate for a boyfriend. Especially not James Potter.

By the time Dorcas had finished styling every inch of me I found myself being dragged in front of my mirror by Mary.

I was wearing a pair of skinny jeans with a black knitted jumper and a gold pendant necklace. I had borrowed some of Alice's crystal butterfly earring with little emeralds. My normally crazy red hair had been tamed into pretty curls and I was wearing a little mascara, making my eyes look striking and brighter. Not to toot my own horn, but I thought I looked amazing.

"Oh my gosh Lily, girl, you look incredible." Marlene said, gasping.

"Pffftt... it's all my makeover expertise, not the fact that Lily's a natural beauty that doesn't embrace it." Dorcas joked, flopping on the bed

"Oh of course Dorky, because you're an expert in everything!" Alice said, sarcastically, punching Dorcas in the arm.

That probably wasn't the brightest of ideas as Dorcas was a lot stronger than her and it resulted in a ferocious slapping fight.

James POV

I stood in the entrance hall waiting for Lily. Sirius was talking at me, but I wasn't listening. I was only concentrating on one thing.

"We're early - for the first time ever. This will ruin our reputations" Sirius joked "maybe we should hide so we don't look to desperate."

"We? We? I'm the one that's going out with Lily today, not you. You're going out with that Hufflepuff girl, Rebecca. You may not be desperate for Lily but I am. Since first year. And this year is my last shot."

"Chill mate. Quit yelling. "Sirius said exasperatedly "She's here"

I turned around to see that he was indeed right. Lily was peering round the door trying to find me in the crowded room.

I slowly made my way towards her, breathing heavily.

As I got near her she saw me and I could see her trying to conceal a smile.

"James."

"Lily... Wow, you look incredible."

"Thanks," she said awkwardly, shuffling her feet. "Umm... Shall we go?"

Yesss! I know what you're all thinking... I haven't updated in 4 months and Im a terrible person.... I agree.

But I have decided to make my comeback on a very important date in the Jily calendar. Halloween. 31st October. The night that Harry received his scar. And became an orphan. The night that James and Lily Potter died.

Sobs quietly in the corner.
