flower stealer
jungkook knew it was wrong.
but he was a broke college student and well, no one seemed to be around.
"i'm sorry."
jungkook whispered underneath his breath as he plucked another flower from the garden that was located in front of someone's house. every month, the owner of the house (and garden) would plant a new type of flower. this time there were red tansies decorating the front of the house, which gave a beautiful and warm view of the house.
jungkook quickly plucked one more flower before making his way out of the gate, and yes, the house was fenced. jungkook didn't want to confront the owner of the house, he felt guilt every time he stole the beautiful flowers but, he couldn't come empty handed.
on his way there, jungkook plucked out the remaining leaves and grabbed a small, silky rope from his pocket and tied the flowers together.
no, these aren't for a girl.
jungkook didn't have time for a girlfriend, he was too broke and too focused on finishing his studies to be focused on a relationship.
he walked into the grassy fields as he looked at all the colorful flowers leaning against specific locations. the flowers that were decorating the green grass looked expensive, probably more than a dozen flowers. he looked down at his small batch and sighed, he wanted to think positive, but looking at the small and stolen flowers made him sad and guilty-feeling.
"hey mom."
jungkook placed his book bag against the big tree as he sat down the grass, the tree useful for its shade. jungkook replaced the dead flowers with the new red ones, as he brushed away the leaves covering his mother's tombstone.
he played with one of the leaves on the ground, feeling the cool breeze felt relaxing and the silence in the graveyard was easing. this was the only time he got quiet time, his life was stressful, from going to school early in the morning and returning home late at night from his job.
"i miss you."
jungkook sniffed a bit before placing the dead flowers in a plastic bag and then putting it in his bag. he stood up before smiling at his moms name engraved in the rock.
"i'm sorry i can't come as usual anymore, and for not staying too long. i love you."
~
the next month, jungkook made his way back to the graveyard through his usual way. he had to pass by the flower house before making his way to visit his mother. as he opened the hinge and made his way into to the yard, he didn't see a small male sitting on the ground, on top of a blanket.
jungkook kneeled down before plucking the new flowers, black-eyed susan's. he took awhile admiring the flowers before picking the most decent looking ones. after he was done, he puffed out a small breath of air before looking at the house with an expression of guilt before standing up. he turned around and jumped in shock when he saw a short, blonde male standing in front of him.
he was a head shorter than him, his blonde hair looked soft, his eyes were big, staring back at him with a questioning look, his small nose scrunched up as his plump lips were formed in a pout.
jungkook had never been caught before, fuck, now he really was going to jail.
"so you are the one who has been stealing my grandmas flowers."
the blonde male said, jungkook was pulled back into reality once he heard the soft voice speaking to him. he blinked twice before looking behind the short male and staring the front entrance of the gate. he looked back at the short male, with his short legs against mine, he'll never catch up.
jungkook was beginning to think of a plan to get passed the blonde male who was still looking at him with furrowed eyebrows, he looked pretty and cute.
"were they for someone?"
jungkook slowly nodded, plan still in his head.
"who? maybe a girl-"
"jimin, who is this?"
jimin averted his eye sight towards an elderly woman, who carried a small bucket of water as she made her way down the steps of her house.
"oh grandma, this is the man who has been stealing all our flowers!"
jimin took a grip on jungkooks wrist and dragged him towards the older lady, jungkooks plan went to vain once he was standing in front of the woman, guilty shown on his face.
"what's your name young man?"
"jungkook. jeon jungkook."
"care to explain why you are stealing my flowers?"
"i'm so so sorry! i am really broke and i only come by once a month and take like five or six but i didn't want to come empty handed when i went to go see her-"
"how pretty can she be to warrant flower theft?"
jungkook was caught by surprise when the old woman asked him.
"jimin, take more flowers and wrap them up like i taught you okay?"
jimin nodded before taking the flowers from jungkook and running back home. jungkook wanted to apoplogize and just leave, he didn't want the situation to become bigger, especially since the woman thought it was for a girlfriend. when in reality it was for his mother who had passed.
~
jungkook held onto the small flower banquet as he walked side-to-side with jimin. the shorter male was sent by his grandmother to see how pretty this girl might be to make jungkook want to steal flowers.
"what's her name, if i may ask?"
jungkook looked over and saw jimin fix his beanie before looking up at jungkook and smiling.
"lee chunhwa."
"pretty name, means spring and flowers. is that the reason why you get her flowers when you meet?"
jungkook bit his lips before nodding, he didn't know how to break it to jimin that they were heading to the graveyard.
"uh, jimin..."
"you know, my grandma planted flowers based off on their meanings. when she noticed that her flowers kept disappearing, she knew someone was taking them. that's why she planted the tansies, they mean 'i declare war on you' and then the black-eyed susan's mean 'justice.' i guess you don't know the flowers meaning then?"
jungkook shook his head, jimin surely did talk a lot.
"she was planning to plant chrysanthemums, meaning 'honesty.' she wanted the flower stealer to come clean."
"how come you know the flowers meaning as well?"
jimin sighed before giving his famous eye-smile to jungkook.
"there really isn't much to do in the country side of seoul, don't you think?"
it's true, jungkook lived in the city, he had to take a bus to get near the country side. his mother loved the calmness and the natural beauty, the fresh air. she requested to be buried in the country side, and since jungkook couldn't afford much, he decided on a small burial in the small rural are of seoul.
his mother surely loved natural beauty.
"is this where you guys usually meet?"
jimin asked once he noticed jungkook stopped walking, there was a small bench located where the street divides. on the left was where the small stores were located and on the right was where the graveyard was at.
jungkook shook his head, this time taking jimins wrist, and pulled jimin towards the right. jimin gave him a confused expression as he turned back to look at the small stores now behind them.
"why are we headed to the graveyard?"
jungkook stayed quiet and enjoyed the cool breeze from the wind, his fingers still wrapped around jimins thin wrist. the shorter male said nothing as he thought quietly, what kind of weird couple meets up at the graveyard?
"i have been trying to come up with a way to break it to you."
jungkook silently said as they made their way to a tree that jungkook has become familiar with. jimin gulped as he saw the name jungkook mentioned engraved on the tombstone.
"i'm so sorry jungkook, i didn't-"
"it's fine, you didn't know."
jungkook sat in front of his mothers tombstone, grabbing the dying tansies and replacing them with the black-eyed susan's. jimin awkwardly stood behind him, mentally hitting himself. he didn't mean to come off this intrusive. he barely knew jungkook and yet, jungkook let himself be followed to his mothers tombstone.
"before my mother passed, we used to have our own garden. i never really learned the meanings behind each flower, but she gave me a purple hyacinth before dying. do you know what it means jimin?"
jimin slowly sat next to jungkook, who was staring directly at his mothers name on her tombstone.
"it means, please forgive me."
jungkook let out a chuckle, a tear slipping down his cheek before he quickly wiped it off. he remembers it clearly, how he was standing next to his mothers weak body in the hospital, when she handed him a dried flower before closing her eyes.
jimin didn't know how to comfort the crying male next to him, he wanted to pull him in for a hug but, he didn't know him well and thought it would come off as too straightforward.
they both stayed sitting next to each other, jungkook was telling jimin about the many different flowers he and his mother planted and was asking him for their meanings.
not realizing how fast time passed.
~
"grandma, can i go meet jungkook in the city?"
jimin and jungkook had gotten closer to each other, jungkook would have a chat with the elderly woman and would sometimes come and help with her garden. jungkook had insisted on paying for all the flowers he had taken (though he didn't know with what money) but the woman had shook her head and let him continue taking flowers for his late mother.
"in the city? you have never been there though."
"kookie said he would come pick me up."
"already with the nicknames? has he even asked you to be his boyfriend?"
"grandma!"
jimin blushes as he hid his face, he couldn't ignore what he felt for jungkook every time they met, but he knew the taller male wasn't looking for a relationship at the moment.
"alright you can go, be careful! i want you home before ten!"
"thanks grandma!"
jimin kissed the woman's cheek before storming off towards the bus station, he puffed out his cheeks while playing with his fingers. he looked down at his outfit, he was really nervous for his first time in the city. he was wearing a yellow plaid shirt with beige pants with a yellow hat*. hopefully it would be okay to wear in the city.
he got on the bus and sat down on an empty seat, there was only three people on the bus. jimin would understand, no one rarely left the country side. it was mostly elderly people roaming around the streets.
jimin passed through the bus ride looking at how the scenery outside changed. it went from trees and fields of planting to big buildings and many people walking down the streets. he was amazed at the sight, he looked at the paper in his hands and memorized the name of street in which he had to get off.
he was so nervous, he has always wanted to visit the city. though he wouldn't live here, it was too crowded and the air was beginning to get stuffy.
jimin finally got off the bus and looked around for a certain tall male.
"where is he?"
the blonde male didn't spot him so he decided to sit on a bench that wasn't too far from the place he was going to meet jungkook at.
while jimin sat there, he took out his notebook from his book bag and began to draw some flowers to pass time.
after awhile, jungkook appeared with a bouquet full of flowers, each were a different kind. jungkook wipes off his sweat from his forehead before looking around for a certain blonde male.
jungkook spotted him sitting on the benches, jungkook made his way there and sat next to him, waiting for jimin to notice him.
meanwhile, jimin noticed someone sitting next to him but decided not to pay too much attention. that was until he noticed he was carrying a bouquet of flowers, he gasped and awed at the many flowers decorated with a beautiful silky fabric.
purple heliotropes — eternal love
blue morning glories — beauty and affection
red tulips — declaration of love
burgundy valerians — readiness
it was such a deep meaning, whoever was going to receive that was receiving someone's love who was ready to devote their love towards them.
"what a beautiful bouquet you have there. so many beautiful flowers and deep meanings, are you going to give those to your girl-"
jimin looked up to see jungkook smiling at him, he was wearing a stripped shirt but with overalls over it. his eyes widened as he saw jungkook leaning in, their noses bumping lightly.
"i am going to give them to someone who is very pretty to warrant flower theft."
jimin was handed the flower bouquet as he looked down at it and then looked up at jungkook, whose cheeks were pink.
"you-you searched up-"
"you don't know how much time it took me to find these flowers in peoples gardens."
jimin smiled, his cheeks flustered as he grabbed jungkook by his cheeks and pecked his lips.
"you shouldn't go around stealing flowers."
"i could say the same to you."
"why?"
jungkook smiled before pecking jimins lips once more.
"you shouldn't go around stealing people's hearts, park jimin."
