They got back to their room and Kie sat back down on the bed. Uncomfortable in the gown as a nurse walked in.

The nurse Introduced herself to everyone and then started explaining the procedure.

JJ hated the way the nurse talked about it so casually. Like it was no big deal. Like this was just another day for her.

He cringed as she held up all the different tools and explained to them what they were for.

He leaned against the wall in front of Kie and looked down as he kept playing a mental imagine over and over again in his head of what was going to happen.

"Any questions?" The nurse ask cheerfully when she was done.

"How long will it take?" Kie asked nervously

"It should only last around 10 minutes or so" the nurse replied

"Does she have to stay after?" Mike asked

"Well normally we like to keep them here for about an hour after the procedure. Just to be safe and let the meds wear off" she smiled "anything else?"

"Does it hurt..?" JJ asked after staying silent the whole time. 

The nurse turned her head, finally acknowledging his presence.

"Uhm, well we'll give.. your.. girlfriend? I'm assuming?"  She asked and JJ nodded "we'll give her medication for the pain and the nerves, but yes there may still be a little pain."

JJ looked up at Kie who looked terrified.

"What about.." JJ anxiously started

"Well as for the fetus, it won't feel a thing" the nurse assured.

"Ok" JJ said quietly and took a deep breath

"Any more questions?" She asked

"Nope, that should be fine" Mike answered.

"Awsome! I'll be back in a jiff for your exam, Kiara"

Kie shot her a soft smile that dropped as soon as the nurse left.

"Awsome" kie sighed sarcastically

"It'll be okay, honey" Anna reassured, and sat by Kie on the bed to comfort her. "It's almost over"

JJ went back to pacing around the room and trying to distract his mind.

10 minutes later the nurse came back to the room and started turning on monitors.

"Alright, I'm about to perform an exam on her if anyone wants toooo step out.." the nurse insisted

"right" Mike said, grabbing his jacket off the chair.

"We'll give you some privacy" Anna smiled before grabbing her purse.

"Do you want me to go?" JJ asked quietly, standing behind her, comforting her by keeping his hands on her arms.

"No, you can stay" Kie smiled, putting her hand on his, and looking up at him.

JJ nodded and stood back so that the nurse could perform the exam.

It was just a standard exam at first. Blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight. Things of that sort.

Afterwards, the nurse had to perform a vaginal exam. It was a little painful and JJ held her hand the whole time.

After the exams, her parents were allowed back in and the nurse started an ultrasound to makes sure there was a baby and make sure that it would be safe.

JJ stood back as her parents were with her for this part. He tried not to look at the monitor, knowing that it would only make him more upset.

He closed his eyes for a second, when a sound from the monitor made his heart drop.

"Aaannnddd that's the fetus heartbeat" the nurse said, casually.

"Wait what?!" Kie said, sitting up. Her voice instantly breaking as she frantically looked around at everyone.

"Are you ss-" JJ started but couldn't finish his sentence. His eyes glued on the monitor now.

"Yep, see there it is" the nurse said, pointing to the fetus on the screen.

"Why would show us that!" JJ shouted at the nurse.

"JJ" Mike warned

"Legally required to" the nurse explained

"Oh my god" JJ said, running his hands through his hair and pacing.

"JJ" Kie cried, seeing him get mad

"It's o.k. Honey" her dad said, trying to calm her down. "You knew this would happen"

"How was I supposed to know that!" Kie cried

There conversation started to fade away as JJ zoned out. He could barley even think. He just saw, and heard his child's heartbeat. The one that they were soon to get rid of. He couldn't take it.

He just stood near the corner of the room with his hands on his head and watched the chaos in the room.

"I can't do this" Kie mumbled through her tears. Covering his face with her hands

"Yes you can baby, it's okay" her mother reassured.

JJ still didn't move.

"This is normal Kiara, really" the nurse tried to make her feel better, but it wasn't working.

Kie looked over at JJ and they made eye contact. His face was straight but she could tell he was breathing heavy and freaking out.

She tilted her head and he looked away, trying not to cry.

This made her cry even more.

Mike saw her eyes and followed them to JJ.

"What are you doin?" Mike scolded as JJ was pacing and trying not to look at any of them.

He didn't respond.

Mike scoffed and went back to focus on his daughter.

He couldn't take it. He had to get away from everyone for a second. He knew he'd get shit for leaving, but he had to before he broke down.

He was already by the door so he just tried to walk out for a minute

"JJ?" Kie cried as he opened the door.

He didn't respond or look back, he just left.

He went out in the hallway and started pacing back and forth, before he finally broke down. He slowly sat down, leaning against the wall and covered his face with his hands.

He winced as tears uncontrollably fell from his eyes.

He wiped his eyes and face with his hands and tried to dry them up before anyone saw.

He rested his arms on his knees and looked up at the ceiling, trying to pull himself together and breath.

Mike rushed out the door to look for him. To make sure he didn't leave the building.

Mike walked out and looked around before seeing him sitting against the wall.

"JJ what the hell?!" He scolded.

JJ quickly wiped his eyes and stood up.

"What are you doing?" Mike asked as JJ walked back to the door. He was surprised to see JJ like this. He had known this boy as Kara's friend, since he was in middle school, but this was the first time he had ever seen him cry. 

Ignoring him, JJ walked back into the room and Mike followed him in, confused.

"JJ" Kie said again, her voice still shaky.

He came over and stood by her, but still couldn't make eye contact or he'd cry again.

He hated himself for being so weak in a time like this, but he just couldn't hold it together.

The nurse had left and JJ took a seat in a chair by the door.

Kie could look at him and know he had been crying. It broke her heart to see him like this.

Everyone waited for whatever was next. No one was really in the mood for conversation but Kies mom tried to talk to her as much as possible to break the silence.

After what felt like hours, the doctor finally came back in the room.

"Okay kiara, are you ready to get started?" The doctor said while snapping on gloves.

"Right now?" Kie asked nervously

"Mhm" the doctor said.

JJ sat up straight

"Wait wait wait wait" kie said panicky as she nervously pushed her hair behind her ears.

"No need to worry, Kiara" the doctor said while grabbing some things from the counter amd putting them on a tray "you'll have some medicine for the nerves."

"Hold on" she started to cry again. She was terrified.

"Come on kiara" the doctor said persuasively. He walked around to the foot of the bed. "If you compromise, this will be a lot easier."

"no, no no no no, wait" she cried, scrunching her legs up into her chest. "I don't think I want to do this anymore"

"You're here now, Kiara" the doctor said "let's just get it over with"

"No, I can't do this" she sobbed, looking around the room, terrified. "mom, I don't wanna do this anymore" she cried, shaking her head

JJ watched in horror

"Kiara, it's ok baby, you can do this" her mom said, leaning into her husband as tears fell for her scared child.

"No, mom, really" Kie sobbed in a high pitched, shaky voice "I can't do this, please"

Tear streamed down her face as she kept trying to move farther away from the doctor. Like she was being cornered.

"Now kiara, let's not do this" the doctor said, placing his hand on her knee, gently trying to move her leg down.

"woa-" JJ said, looking over at her parents to see if they were going to do anything.

"I can't do this" she sobbed "I can't do this"

"Kiara, put your legs down" the doctor said, almost getting frustrated

"Yo hang on, give her a minute, Damn!" JJ demanded, standing up and tapping the doctors hand off of her knee.

"J-, I can't- I don't-" Kie tried to get out but she was breathing and crying too hard.

He quickly pulled up a chair next to her and held her hand, cupping it with both of his.

She laid her legs back down and couldn't speak she was crying and freaking out so much.

"Kiara." He said with pain in his voice. His heart shattered as he looked into her water filled eyes.

He bit his lip as he tried to find the courage to speak again. He started to shake his head a little before he spoke. 

"We can't have kid" he said, scrunching his nose a little. As if he had just realized it himself.

She kept crying even more.

His eyes darted around her face as he tried not to cry with her.

He sighed and wore a painful smile as he pushed her hair behind her ear.

"Not right now" he said, his voice shaky "we- we aren't ready for a kid"

She winced with pain in her heart. Tears still streaming down her face.

"Look" he said, his eyes starting to water "it's okay. I promise it's ok. You can do this"

"I can't" kie cried while shaking her head

"Yes you can. I promise" JJ said, blinking, causing a  tear to fall down. "I know what I said before, okay"

Kie listened, and tried to calm down

"I know what I said before, but I get it now." JJ said, quickly wiping his eye "we can't have a baby. Not now"

Kie wiped her face with her free hand.

"And one day, okay, you and I are gonna get married" he said, his voice choppy. "And we.. are gonna have.. a whole bunch of kids. Okay, I promise"

"10?" Her voice broke

He let out a painful laugh and smile as he dropped his head, leaning his forehead on the hand that he was holding.

"Yes, 10" he laughed, looking up and his eyes were now full of tears.

she put her hand on his cheek and wiped tears away. he melted into her hand.

"This is the right thing to do" he reassured her and smiled, tears falling down his cheeks.

"You're not mad?" She sniffled

He shook his head

"No I'm not mad. I promise" JJ said and wiped his eyes again. "You can do this"

Kie nodded

"It's okay" he said as he leaned up, brushed her hair back and kissed her head. "You got this"

She nodded again and wiped her face dry

"I'll be right here" he promised "the whole time"

"Okay" she said, collecting herself

"Don't be scared" he said as she sat up.

"Okay" she pushed her hair behind her ears again and wiped her eyes one more time

"I love you" he said

She looked over at him and smiled

"I love you too" she said, putting her hand on his face and they kissed.

"Are we ready?" The doctor asked impatiently.

JJ made an exaggerated annoyed face

"I can get you another doctor" JJ mumbled quietly to her

"No" Kie laughed "it's okay"

JJ smiled seeing her laugh and looked back at the doctor.

Kie nodded her head yes, and the doctor gave her medicine to calm her down, and then a shot for the pain.

Mike left the room while her mother sat next to her on the opposite side of JJ.

Kie could still feel a little pain during the procedure but JJ was there the whole time to comfort her.

He hated seeing her in pain but knew it would be over soon. All he could do to help was to just be there.

After the procedure was over, JJ stayed by her side while the medicine wore off.

Eventually, the medicine made her shaky so JJ left to go get her food from a vending machine.

He walked out the door and slowly shut it behind him. He stood in front of the door for a moment with his hand still on the knob.

His face twitched and he fidgeted with his lip, biting a little to distract himself from the emotional pain.

He closed his eyes and tears forced their way out.

"JJ?" Mike asked from behind him

JJ turned around slowly, trying to stop but he couldn't.

Mike looked into his sad, red, watering eyes and opened his arms, bringing JJ in for a hug.

"Sometimes, I forget you're just a kid." Mike said as JJ broke down into his arms. "I'm sorry"

He put his hand on his head, comforting him as if he were his own child.

JJ winced and choppily sobbed into his shoulder. It was all the stress, the relief, the anger, the sadness. Everything that had built up in the past few months. He was finally letting go.

Her mom came out of the room as well so that Kie could get dressed again, and saw what was going on. She quickly went over and hugged the both of them.

He let himself cry in this safe circle that her parents had made for him. Finally. He felt safe again.
