The rest of the day went on as normal. When the bell rang for dismissal, JJ waited for Kie by her car.

"Hey" he smiled when she started walking up.

"Hey, get in" she said, unlocking her car

They got inside and JJ waited for her to start talking

"What's up?" He asked as she shut her door.

"JJ, Sarah told me that you've been acting a little off lately. Is something wrong. Just be honest" Kie said, getting straight to the point.

"What do you mean?" He asked

"She said you've been drinking more. What's up with that?" She confronted.

"I mean.. yea this whole situation has just been stressful I guess" he defended himself

"JJ just be honest. Do you still not want me to get the abortion?" She asked, softly.

He paused for a minute. He wasn't expecting her to bring that back up.

"I- i mean, kie I already told you I was gonna be here no matter what choice you make" he replied

"I know, but you still want to keep it?" She asked

"I mean.." he said, not wanting to make her upset. "I dunno"

"If it was up to you?" She asked "would you keep it?"

"Kie, can we not do this right now" he said, knowing that his answer, wouldn't be the one she wanted to hear.

"JJ, I'm just asking." Kie said.

He took a deep breath as he thought whether or not to say it.

"If it was up to me" he started "yea I would keep it"

"I knew it" she sighed

"But that doesn't mean I'm mad about it" JJ said "I just- I get why your getting an abortion I just-"

"I know but you still don't want me to get one" she cut him off, the conversation turning into more like an argument.

"What do you want me to say to that Kie" he argued

"I want you to be honest" she replied "you're still mad I want to get an abortion"

"Okay, my honest answer, no I don't want you to get an abortion. There." He said "but I already told you I'm still gonna be there with you while it happens."

"Well when we talked about it the other day, you made it seem like you wanted it" Kie argued

"I don't think I ever said that Kie" he argued

"Why wouldn't you just tell me you were still mad" Kie asked

"Because what's the point? It won't change anything and it would only make you upset" he started "and I'm not MAD about it, I just- dont think it would be the worst thing ever if you kept it"

"Well you were mad about it" Kie said

"But I'm not anymore" JJ said, defensively "i already told you I'm gonna be there with you when-"

"Well what if I don't want you there" she blurted out

He stopped arguing and looked at her in silence.

"I didn't mean that" Kie said, noticing his face.

"It's fine" he said looking forward

"JJ-"

"No, it's fine." He said, looking back at her.

"I want you there" she said, apologetically.

"Do you really?" He laughed, sarcastically

"I really do, I'm sorry" Kie said, looking at him "JJ"

He put his hand on the handle of the door as he sat up. He paused for a minute to think. He slowly closed his eyes and leaned back in the chair, slouching a little. He took a deep breath.

"It's okay" he said, genuinely. Leaning his head on the back of the chair and looking over at her softly.

"I'm sorry" she said again

"I don't have to go if you don't want me to"

"Noo JJ I'm being serious, I didn't mean that. I want you there"

"You sure?" He asked

"I need you to be there" she reassured.

He took another deep breath

"Why do we keep fighting" he sighed

"I don't know" she said sadly, looking down.

He grabbed her hand and they laid their arms on the center console.

"Get the abortion." He said after a moment of silence "it's what you want to do. So get it"

"I just want to be on the same page" Kie said, looking at him

"Kie.." he started "I don't think we'll ever be on the same page about this."

She looked back down.

"Just get the abortion"

She drove back home after they said goodbye and JJ left on his bike.

When she got home, Mike was in the kitchen waiting for her.

"I shouldn't have took this" he apologized, placing her phone in the counter.

She looked at him and smiled

"Thanks" she said, walking over and grabbing it.

She looked at it and saw all the missed calls and texts from JJ.

"His notifications kept me up all night anyways" Mike said while drying a cup out with a rag

She smiled a little

"You have a good day?" Mike asked, nicely

"Uh, Yea" she smiled "did you?"

"It was fine" he said and she went upstairs to her room.

Later that afternoon, Mike went out on the porch to watch the sunset and drink a beer. He sat out there thinking about his daughter, and JJ. He just wished it never happened so that things could go back to normal.

A while later, the back door opened and he looked up.

He was JJ sliding through the door and walking outside.

Mike didn't want to yell at him. He didn't have it in him to keep being angry at him all the time.

"Mike.." JJ said, shutting the door and walking closer to him.

"What is it JJ" Mike asked, looking forward

"I Um- sorry for just showing up but I just want to talk" he said, making his way over to the railing and leaning on it

"About?" Mike asked dryly

"I just- I'm sorry." He said genuinely "I know I was out of line and I know that I lost your trust but i hate this, and I'm sorry, and I just want to know what I can do to make it better"

"Sit down" Mike sighed, gesturing to the patio chair.

JJ hesitantly sat down

"Why are you having such a hard time with this?" Mike asked, looking over at him

JJ took a deep breath as he leaned his arms on his knees and cradled his head in his hands. Roughly rubbing his face as he thought.

"I'm not" he tried to say, looking up

"JJ." Mike said, knowing he was lying

JJ took a deep breath, knowing that he was going to have to talk about it.

"Do you want a kid right now?" Mike asked, trying to understand

"No, no- I just"JJ thought for a minute "I dunno"

"Talk to me JJ. what's really the issue?" Mike asked.

JJ paused for a minute to think. He really didn't want to talk about this.

"We knew about it for a whole week before we told you guys" JJ started "a whole week, and never once did she say anything about getting rid of it."

Mike listened

"And then the second we told you..  just like that" he snapped "it's gone"

JJ paused for a minute.

"Like, yea I was scared and had absolutely no clue what to do but.. I mean we talked about it and figured out a little game plan and just-" JJ paused "I mean we picked out baby names and like- a part of me got a little excited to have a kid of my own. Especially with her I mean that's the goal right? Maybe not right now but, I knew it was gonna happen some day, so why not."

"You were excited?" Mike asked, kind of shocked

"A little" JJ defended and Mike didn't say anything

"And I mean.. you know my dad, man" JJ struggled to say "it's no secret that he's not necessarily the best"

Mike listened

"And.. and I dunno I just always told myself that when I became a dad, I would be better than him." JJ tried to explain. "I told myself that I would never let anyone hurt my kid. Ever.  and this just-" he paused for a minute to think "this just goes against that I guess"

Mike sympathized with his reason, but never fully understood the weight.

"JJ you know it's not kid yet"

"I know" he said quickly after "I just- it's hard for me to think about it that way sometimes."

Mike didn't say anything.

"You know im really disappointed in you two for being so careless" Mike said eventually "I know you two aren't that stupid, so I just don't understand how she could have even got pregnant. There are so many way that could have been avoided."

JJ looked down, guilty

"And I feel like part to blame. I should have known that you two have been together a while now and I should have kept a closer eye on y'all." He admitted "that being said JJ... I know things happen. Mistakes happen. And I can't be mad at you forever. You're family. I promise things will be better once it's all over with it"

Chills went down JJs whole body as he listened. He took a deep breath and sat up straight.

"I appreciate you having this talk with me" JJ said standing up "I should probably- you know get going back to the chateau before it gets dark you know"

"Right" Mike laughed a little, knowing he hated conversations like these and was just trying to leave. "I appreciate you stopping by JJ, really"

JJ smiled

"I'll uh.. see you later I guess" JJ said, not really knowing when he'd be allowed over again.

He went back inside and watched Mike from the window for a second before feeling safe to run up stairs to Kies room real quick.

He slowly opened the door.

"JJ?!" Kie said, shooting up from her bed and running over to him "what are you doing here"

"I'm definitely not allowed to be up here right now, I just wanted to say hi real quick" he hugged her back and kissed her. "I really have to go though, your dad will freak if he sees me up here"

"Okay" she laughed, kissing him one more time "bye"

"I love you Kie" he said, leaving and slowly shutting the door

"I love you too" she smiled.
