The next day at school, Kie found JJ as soon as she could. She was walking with Sarah to meet up with the boys like they normally did, but she was crying.

"Jayj can we talk?" Kie said, going over to him as soon as possible and grabbing both of his wrists and looking up at him, crying.

JJ wrapped his arms around her and looked at Sarah, then at John b and pope to see if they knew what was going on. He was so confused.

"Yea? what's wrong?" He asked, and then looked at Sarah again. Sarah just frowned like she was about to cry too.

Kie grabbed his hand and started leading him away from everyone. John b and pope were so confused.

"Kie, what's going on?" He asked once they got far enough away from everyone

"JJ I don't think I can do this" she cried, not being able to stop. "I'm so scared"

"What are you talking about?" He asked, gently

"I can't even look them in the eyes, I'm so scared to even be around them" she cried

"Your parents?" JJ asked, confused.

"JJ, they're gonna be so mad" she sobbed and he pulled her into a hug.

"Do you just want to tell them already?" He asked, kissing the top of her head. "We can just get it over with if you want."

"They're going to hate me" she sobbed

"Nooo, they're not gonna hate you baby I promise" JJ said, wanting to cry at seeing her so sad. "It's gonna be okay"

"I'm so scared" she said again. her voice was choppy as she fell apart. Just then the bell rang

"Do you just wanna skip today?" JJ asked, looking at her. "We don't have to go in"

She sniffled "You have a history test tod-"

"Kie-" he cut her off, tilting his head "do I look like the kind of guy who would care about a history test today"

"No" she laughed a little, tears still running down her face

"Come on" JJ said, taking her hand "let's just get out of here"

They left and went out to her car and took a drive down to the beach. He parked the car on a hill where they could see the water from the window.

"I know" JJ said "Rupert"

"Rupert?" Kie laughed "absolutely not"

"What abouttt" JJ thought "hank"

"Oh my god, JJ, these are terrible names" they both laughed

She had calmed down now. Her pregnancy hormones were making even the slightest inconvenience seem like the end of the world. The  slightest amount of sadness or stress would always turn into so much more.

She had lifted up the center counsel in her car and laid down on JJs lap, playing with his bracelets as they thought about baby names. They had both windows down and Kie crossed her legs, putting her shoes on the door almost out the window. JJ kept one of his hands placed flat on her stomach

"What about, Rosetta" Kie suggested

"No." JJ instantly shut down

"Why not" she asked

"Just no" he shook his head and laughed.

"I say if it's a girl" JJ added "we name it Tod"

"Be serious" Kie laughed, playfully hitting his cheek

"Alright alright alright" JJ laughed, thinking for a minute. "like maybe, I dunno I've always liked the name Nalu"

"Nalu?" Kie asked, intrigued

"Yea, it means wave in some language I dunno" JJ shrugged off "I just like- beachy names like that you know"

"I think that's cute actually" Kie agreed "beachy names"

"Ocean, piper, Shelly," Kie listed names she thought were beachy "Summer, cove, Natasha-"

JJ smiled at the last one

"That was my moms name" he said, still smiling

"What, Natasha?" She asked, getting interested. She had never heard him say anything about his mom before.

"Yep" he said, thinking about it "Natasha Lynn Maybank"

Kie smiled and looked at him. Her smiled slowly started to fade. He looked down at her and noticed

"You can ask, you know" JJ said, looking back up.

Kie hesitated at first

"What happened to her?" She asked carefully.

"Car wreck" JJ said. He was at peace with his moms death, but hadn't really talked to anyone about it, other than John b. "I Come from two parents with substance abuse problems" he chuckled a little

"She died?" Kie asked, a little takin back by the information

"Yep, I was like..5? I think" JJ said, casual about it "she was driving home after picking me up from my dads house... they were separated" he added

"You were in the car??" Kie asked

"Mhm" JJ nodded "she had been drinking, and I was in the backseat and. Bam" he said, zoning out a little as he thought about it

Kie looked up at him, about to cry.

"Some kook eventually came across the wreck and pulled me out of the car. but, I sat there for hours just trying to get her to wake up." JJ said "that's when I moved in full time with my dad, and- well, I was with her during the wreck and- I dunno it's something he's always kinda blamed me for"

"Is that when.." Kie asked, not wanting to say it "it started?"

JJ nodded with a 'it is what it is' expression on his face

"That's when the heavy drinking started too, which only made the- only made him Angrier." JJ said biting his cheek. He didn't think it would make him sad to talk about, but he just hadn't talked about it in so long. "I promise this kid will never know what that feels like" he whispered and Kie tried to hold back her tears.

"But anyways" he said, taking a deep breath and trying to forget about it "let's just not name our kid after anyone on my side of the family"

Kie looked at him. She didn't understand how someone could go through so much in only 16 years. His whole life had been a battle and it made her feel bad for him.

"Okay" she smiled softly. She could tell he didn't want to talk about it anymore.

"I'm thinking fredle" JJ said, changing the subject

Kie laughed "we're not naming our baby fredle"

They both laughed and stayed In the car thinking about baby names for another 30 minutes or so.

"Why are you not in school" Kie said, reading a text she has gotten from her dad.

"Uh oh" JJ said

"Just picking out future names for your future grandkid you don't know about yet" Kie said sarcastically, pretending to type on her phone.

"Send it" JJ joked

"Yea right" Kie laughed "what do I say?"

"Just tell him your with me at the beach cuz school is for bitches." He joked

"With my baby daddy at the beach" she pretended to type again and they both laughed "I'll be home before dark"

They both laughed

"Question mark question mark question mark" Kie read another text he had just sent. "Ugh he's so dramatic"

"Just don't respond" JJ suggested "and if he asks when you get home just tell him you were late so they marked you absent"

"It's not like I'm not in trouble all ready" Kie agreed, tossing her phone in the seat.

"You know when we're gonna tell them yet?" JJ asked "we can do it this weekend if you want. I know it stresses you out having to lie to them, and it's only gonna be worse if you have to spend all day with them"

"Yea" she sighed "we can do it this weekend."
