The next morning JJ decided to go by Kies house. He knew she had a tough day yesterday and he wanted to try to cheer her up.

He got there early and knocked on the door. Mike answered and let him inside

"JJ, I wasn't expecting you" Mike said, but happy he was there

"Yea, sorry" JJ said "I just wanted to ride with Kie to school if that's alright with y'all"

"Of course" Mike said, going back into the kitchen with JJ "so, do you know about pope?"

JJ eyebrows pinched as he was confused. He didn't think Kie would tell her dad that he had tried to kiss her.

"It depends.." JJ said hesitantly, not wanting to get her in trouble incase he was talking about something else.

"What happened at the chateau" Mike said, grabbing a handful of almonds from the pantry

"You mean.. how he tried to.." JJ said, tapping his lips

"Mhm" Mike nodded, curious at how JJ felt about it

"Yeaaaa" JJ said "she told me about that"

"Did you talk to him?" Mike asked

"Well.. he had just gotten broken up with, and- I thought about the things I would probably do if Kie broke up with me so I kinda just dropped it after he apologized" JJ explained

Mike shrugged his face, surprised that JJ didn't get mad and punch him.

"Apparently now, he's being a dick though- sorry" he said, covering his mouth since he cussed and mike just laughed "but um- yea that's kinda why I came here. she told me she'd tell me about it today."

"Ahh" mike said, finally understanding as they heard Kies door open and then shut. She came down stairs and looked like she was kind of in a bad mood.

She had both her AirPods in, and her arms were crossed. She braided two stands of hair that framed her face and was in a black cropped top and jeans.

She looked up as she was coming down the stairs, and saw JJ standing at the entrance

"JJ?" She asked, not knowing why he was there. Her face lit up and she took both headphones out and put them back in the case before going up to him and hugging him

"Hey" he said, hugging her back

"What are you doing here?" She asked, looking up at him

"I wanted to see you before school" he smiled "you okay?"

"Yea" she smiled and almost kissed him but then realized her dad was still standing there "I'm fine"

"Y'all better get going or you'll be late" Mike said and Kie went up to him to hug him goodbye. "Bye baby, have a good day. JJ, you stay out of trouble" he teased and they went out to her car.

JJ drove and Kie sat in the passenger seat. She leaned her head down on the center counsel and held one of JJs hands. She pulled her knees into her chest as she kept almost falling asleep in the car.

"Kie" JJ said, a little concerned at how tired she looked. "Really, are you okay?"

"Yea" she mumbled, sitting up a little "just tired"

He drove for a little bit longer, still worried about her. He didn't know what to say to help her.

"do you care if we're a little late?" He asked, looking over at her.

She sat up a little more.

"No?" she said a little confused.

He turned his blinker on Kie laughed as he turned into a fast food restaurant.

He went through the drive threw, buying her food and an iced coffee. He wasn't really hungry but bought some for himself too so that she wouldn't eat alone.

He drove to the school and they sat in the school parking lot and ate there food. She was in a much better mood now and sat up and actually talked to him.

"Bro I was actually starving- this is so good" she said, eating a fry

"You know I've never actually had one of these things" he said, twisting the straw around in his coffee "but there actually pretty good"

"Right" she laughed

"So what did pope do?" He asked eventually

"Ugh- don't even get me started" she rolled her eyes and started ranting "he came up to me at lunch yesterday and said that he wanted to talk about last night. So I was like- okay sure. And then he started getting mad, and was like- literally trying to convince me to leave you and get back with him"

JJ widened his eyes as he took a sip of his coffee. "What?" He said, gossipy.

"Yes- and then I was like- pope your kinda being a shit friend right now to JJ, being that I am LITERALLY his girlfriend" she went on "and he was like- 'well he did the same thing to me'. No- actually he didn't. That was completely different. Me and pope had already called things off before you and I even started talking, and pope is trying to break us up. There is a difference"

"Where is this even coming from?" JJ said, confused

"That's what I'm saying" Kie agreed "anyways, so then- and this part pissed me off so much- he was like 'why are you even with JJ, he's just a lier and a thief, Why would you choose him over me?' and then I yelled at him because he was being an asshole and left, telling him he was a shitty friend"

"He said that for real?" JJ said, a little hurt

"Yea" Kie said, sad that pope was hurting him.

"So wait- so" JJ said trying to wrap his head around it "pope tried to hit on you again.. after apologizing the night before, saying that he didn't like you anymore. Then he called me a lier.. and a thief, And that you should be with him instead?"

"Yea" Kie nodded her head, taking another sip

"Damn" JJ said, nodding his head as he thought for a minute "he's just jealous he fumbled the hottest girl in the obx"

Kie laughed and blushed a little. She was surprised he wasn't more mad about it.

"Told you he was being an ass" Kie said

"Yea, it's alright though" JJ said, leaning his head on the seat and tilting it a little at her. "Let him be mad."

"Are you gonna talk to him?" She Asked

"Oh for sure" JJ laughed "just not today- or at least not at school"

"You won't do anything stupid?" She laughed

"Not unless he says something stupid" he joked, but wasn't really joking.

They finished there food and walked into class late.

"Kie where were you?" Sarah whispered as Kie sat down.

"Getting food" she replied "JJs the best"

Sarah smiled.

"Can you come to the chateau after school?" She asked

"I'll ask my dad" Kie said "I'll let you know what he says"

Both Kie and JJ avoided pope all day. At lunch they didn't go to the picnic table with the rest of them. Instead they went and had lunch in the courtyard under a big tree.

Kie was so relieved that JJ was back at school again. He wasn't there for one day and it was the worst day she had had in a while.

She was just happy to be away from everyone. The second they got back from spring break, everything started going wrong. Everything was stressing her out. Pope, rafe, school. The only time she ever felt relaxed was when it was just her and JJ. alone.

After school, JJ and kie went to the chateau. They didn't plan on being there long, they just wanted to hang out for a while. JJ also knew that pope was going to be there, and he wanted to talk to him.

They all sat around the porch for while. Kie and JJ sat on the couch and pope sat on the opposite side of them on a chair.

They were talking and Sarah and John b decided to go Inside because it was hot.

"Kie.." JJ said, silently asking her to go so that he could talk to pope. She looked at him and then realized the situation.

"Yea, I'm going in too" she said and stood up to go inside

"Pope-" JJ said as pope stood up like he was about to go inside as well. "What's going on bro?"

"Nothin" pope said, looking down as JJ stood up as well

"The fuck are you tryna to do with Kie?" JJ asked, getting straight to the point

"What are you talking about?" Pope asked nervously

"Cut the shit man" JJ said, walking over closer to him slowly "do you have a problem with me or something?"

"No, dude, relax" pope said, sitting back down in the chair like he was trying to play it cool.

"Oh, we don't have a problem?" JJ laughed sarcastically

"No, we don't" pope said

"Oh okay, but I'm a lier right?" JJ said "and I'm thief? I mean that's what you said, right?"

"No- I didn't say that-"

"You think you can talk shit about me to my girlfriend and I wouldn't find out?" JJ said "so tell me bro, what the fuck is your deal lately?!"

"I don't have deal, dude, shut up" pope said, standing up and walking out the porch and into the yard

"No honestly pope I'm just curious" JJ said, following him out "if you have a problem with me just say it. Say it to my face and not to my girlfriend"

"Stop saying that" pope said, annoyed

"Saying what?" JJ asked

"Saying girlfriend like it means something" pope argued

"Bro what is your fucking problem?!" JJ asked, getting a little mad

"You bro" pope admitted "you acting like what you and Kie have is SO special"

"What is that supposed to mean?" JJ asked, confused

"I had her first!" Pope yelled "and then the second we called it off you swooped in without giving me a CHANCE to win her back"

"First of all, stop talking about her like she's some fucking baseball card that were trading." JJ said, annoyed "shes a person who can make her own goddam decisions. Us getting together wasn't a one sided thing."

They heard them yelling from inside and Kie, John b, and Sarah went out onto the porch.

"You keep acting like what you did to me wasn't fucked up though JJ" pope argued

"Pope, that was forever ago! And you didn't seem to care, when you were still with Cleo" JJ said "your just mad about it now because she dumped your ass"

"Okay- wow really?" Pope said, looking at the ground as he laughed a little

"I know that's hard to hear pope but it's the truth" JJ said "all was forgiven and you had completely moved on until then"

"What are they talking about?" Sarah whispered to Kie

"Uhm.." Kie said as she watched

"That's a pretty fucked up thing to assume" pope said

"It's fucked up to talk shit about me, after I FORGAVE you for trying to kiss my fucking girlfriend!" JJ yelled

"WHAT?!" YOU KISSED KIE?!" Sarah and John b exclaimed from the porch and they all three walked onto the yard.

"Great" pope said as he knew they all found out.

"Maybe if you didn't want them to find out, you shouldn't have done it in the first place" JJ said

"Kie I told you not to tell him!" Pope said directing his attention to her "you couldn't keep your mouth shut for-"

"HEY! We're taking!" JJ said, getting popes focus back on him. He didn't want him talking to her after all the shit he's pulled. "Why don't you just tell me what the fuck your problem is man" he said getting closer

"Get the fuck outta my face" pope said through a clinched jaw, pushing JJ.

"Pope I swear to god-"

"JJ.." Kie said, worried. She didn't want him to get mad and hit him.

JJ looked back at her. Her hand lightly rubbing her collarbone and her face looked scared. He couldn't do this in front of her.

He backed off and took a deep breath.

"Pope, stop trying shit." JJ said calmly "it's not gonna work out for you, I promise"

Pope just looked at him angrily

"Fuck this-" pope said and started walking away

"Pope where are you going?!" John b yelled

"Home. Leave me alone" pope yelled as he headed down the drive way

"What the fuck was that about?!" John b asked

JJ turned around, taking a deep breath

"I'm gonna be sick" Kie said, rubbing her face with her hands

"He's been hitting on Kie ever since we got back" JJ explained as he went up and hugged kie, pulling her in as she kept her hands on her face. She wanted to cry. "He tried to kiss her the night we all slept here"

"What the fuck?" Sarah said, looking at John b who matched her confusion

"He's been saying some crazy shit about JJ too, I don't know what he's on about lately" Kie said, turning around and JJ wrapped his arms around her shoulders from behind, kissing the top of her head.

She put her hands on his arms as he spoke

"He told me the other day that he didn't have feelings for Kie anymore to, and then she tells me that he hit on her at school when we weren't there."

"What's going on with him" John questioned.

They filled them in on everything that had happened and then JJ and kie decided to get her back home.

"Thank you for not hitting him" Kie said, sincerely as he drove her home

"If you weren't there I probably would have" JJ said "so thanks for being there"

Kie smiled and they pulled into her driveway. JJ went inside with her and hung out with her family and stayed for dinner. It was late so Mike offered to let them sleep on the couch, so they did.

They cuddled on the couch and watched a movie as they went to bed. Finally, she could get a good nights sleep. He was with her, so she had nothing to worry about.
