"Hey, Kie" JJ said, knocking and then slowly opening her door. She was standing in front of a mirror, drying her hair.

"Hey jayj" she said casually, going back to what she was doing.

"Get ready, I have a surprise for you" JJ said, walking into her room.

"A surprise?" She said suspiciously "what kind of surprise"

"Well I can't tell you or that would ruin the surprise" he said suspenseful "get dressed, I'm taking you somewhere"

"Wait, Do my parents know?" Kie asked as JJ was about to walk out the door

"Mhm" he nodded his head "now get dressed we should probably leave in like 30 minutes"

"Wait dress for what" she laughed

"What do you mean"

"Like what occasion?"

"Ohhh, nothing fancy, just dress normal- like casual" JJ told her and then left to go get ready himself.

When they were both ready to go, they went out to the porch to tell her parents they were leaving.

"Hey, we're about to head out" JJ said, sticking his head out the door

"Okay, you two have fun" Anna said

"Be safe, call us if you need anything and don't wreck my car" Mike said as JJ started slowly closing the door "wait where's Kiara?"

Kie who was standing behind JJ from inside walked out to the porch

"Bye baby, you have fun" Mike said as Kie leaned down to give him a hug where he was sitting

"So you guys know what it is?" Kie said

"Mmmhm" Mike said, while nodding his head "yall be good okay, I'm trusting you"

"don't worry, we'll be back at 9" JJ reassured as him and Kie said there final goodbyes and then left to go to the car.

They get in the car and JJ starts driving to there destination, the whole time Kie was begging him to tell her where they were going.

"Okay, we're almost here" JJ said "close your eyes"

She put her hands over her eyes and broke apart her fingers a little to see through them

"Ahp - no peaking" JJ said, point at her

She giggled and then covered her eyes.

He pulled into the parking lot and got out to go get the door for Kie.

He walked her out of the car and then placed his hand on her arm

"Are you readyyyy" he said like he was announcing a race

"Yes I'm ready can I look now?!" She said, the suspense was killing her

"Alright" he said softly and then moved her hands out of the way

"What is this place?" She asked, looking at a building.

"Well it's just some animal shelter, no big deal right, you've been to a ton of them. HowEVER" he started "today specifically, they were excepting volunteers to go with them to help, literally set three big ass sea turtles, free into the ocean"

"WAIT we're going with them?!" Kie asked, getting excited

"Yep, we're riding with them, in there weird ass van, with a turtle strapped up in it, and then we're going to the beach and meeting up with the other two vans, and letting them go 1 at a time" he listed

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" She asked, grabbing his wrists excitedly

"Mhm" he nodded

"OH MY GOD, JJ" Kie said, jumping up a little "when does it start???"

"Right now, we can go in anytime" JJ answered, smiling at how happy she was

"Then let's gooooo" she said grabbing his hand and walking forward excitedly

When they almost got to the door she let go of his hand and stopped. She turned around, grabbed his face and kissed him.

"Thank you" she said once they broke away

He smiled and they went inside the building to check in.

Everyone in there was happy and in a very positive mood. They had reggae music playing in the background and a gift shop in the building.

"Heyy y'all" a sweet southern lady said from the front counter "are we here for the volunteer registration?"

"Sure are" JJ said as they got up to the counter

"Perfect, just sign in on that little clipboard right there and I'll go get your badges" the lady said

He signed his name and number and then handed the pen to Kie as the lady came back in.

"Thank yall so much for volunteering" she smiled "we really don't get a lot of help around here"

"Are you kidding, we'd love to help" Kie responded "this place is amazing"

The lady handed them there badges and then grabbed them two light blue T-shirts with the company logo on the front and 'volunteer' on the back

"Yo, free T-Shirt" JJ said, looking at the design

"Thank you so much" Kie said to the lady "are we supposed to put these on?"

"Well we'd prefer it, just so that our staff will know who all are volunteers" the lady said "sometimes, once we get out to the beach, a lot of people like to stop by and watch, so it might get confusing. But that's why we're doing it at sunset this time, so there won't be as many people"

Kie and JJ put on there shirts and badges and then were directed to the back. They were greated by the staff and met up with the other volunteers.

They walked around and got to see all the sick sea animals being nursed back to health. They even got to pet a pelican and hold a baby turtle.

They were taken to another back room where they met the three sea turtles they were going to be setting free.

They got to pet its shell and they learned about all of there stories. How they got there, what was wrong with them and how long they had been there. There was one older turtle that had been there for almost 8 months.

The turtles names were davey, lucky, and Marley. you can imagine which one was Kies favorite.

They helped load all three turtles into separate vans and got to pick which one they road with. Of course they road with Marley, along with two other volunteers who were a couple as well.

The four got to know each other and talked the whole way to the beach. They were from Florida and volunteered at the shelter all the time. There names were Jenny and Hayden, both 20 years old. They were both blonde and a little on the kook side, but not too much to the point they were annoying.

They got to the beach and started helping the staff members take him out on the little platform he was laying on.

Marley was the oldest and was going to be the last to leave so they went over to the beach to watch the first two go.

They met up with the other volunteers and watched as davey was being unstrapped from the board. It took him a minute to start moving, but eventually he ran to the water and swam away.

Then they let lucky go and watched him leave as well and then went back with Hayden and Jenny to help the staff member at the van get Marley and bring him to the water.

each volunteer grabbed a side of the platform and walked Marley over to the beach. They gently set him down and then pet his shell, telling him goodbye.

The sun was setting and the sky was absolutely beautiful. It was the perfect time of day, the perfect weather, and the perfect moment.

They watched Marley slowly make his way to the water. When he reached the shore, he turned his head back as if he was looking at them, and then swam away.

Everyone was so happy as they sent them off. They stayed on the beach for a little while longer before loading back up in the vans, and driving back to the shelter.

"That was amazing" Jenny said, friendly "I wish you guys lived here so that you could come back"

"Same" Kie said "that was so cool, I can't believe I actually got to see it"

"You guys should come grab food with us" hayden suggested "we know this really good local spot, it could be your last little taste of Florida before y'all leave"

Kie and JJ looked at each other and slightly shrugged

"Sure" "yea" they both said.

JJ texted Kies dad, asking if they could have one more hour since they wanted to get food, and he didn't know how long it would take.

Mike agreed to let them stay out until 10:30 which was more time than they even needed, so they were both very happy.

They said goodbye to the staff and then met up with Hayden and Jenny at a small diner

They got there and ordered there food and waited for it to come out.

"So you guys are 16?" Hayden asked "where are your parents"

"Well mine are at the house we're renting, and his our back home" Kie responded

"Outerbanks? Where is that?" Hayden asked since they had told them that's where they were from earlier in the van

"North Carolina" JJ responded

"Oh, it's nice there" Jenny said

"You've been?" Kie asked

"For vacation a couple times yea" hayden said

"So do you guys go to school there?" Jenny asked

"Yea, we're both in the same grade" Kie responded

"What grade?" Hayden asked

"11th" Kie responded.

JJ started to get a bad feeling

"And you said your parents are at a house your renting?" Jenny asked "where at?"

"Uhm- well it's on the beach" Kie responded

"Oh, we love the beach" hayden said "what beach is it on"

"I'm not too sure" Kie lied "I never asked"

Kie and JJ looked at each other a little confused

"I might know your parents, what are there names?" Hayden asked

"You don't know them" Kie said, a little uncomfortable

"Well I might, who are they" hayden said

"Hey Hayden, why are you asking so many questions man?" JJ said, laughing it off

"Oh, sorry- just trying to get to know you better is all" hayden laughed casually

There was a pause for a minute before they started talking again.

"That was a really special moment today with the turtles" Jenny said breaking the silence

"Yea it was" Kie said

"Do you volunteer at any shelters in Outerbanks?" Jenny asked

"Yea i do, a few actually" Kie responded

"Oh really? Which ones?" She asked

"Don't answer that kie. we're leaving" he said, signaling her and they both slid out of the booth.

"Where are you going?" Hayden asked

JJ didn't say anything. He dropped a 20 on the table for the food they ordered that hadn't come out yet.

"Oh actually- if you just gave me your card instead, I can-" hayden started but Kie and JJ just left without hearing what he had to say.

"What the fuck was that about?" JJ asked as they rushed back to the car

"I don't know.  they're actually so creepy" Kie said as they got back into the car and quickly drove away.

"Alright- so change of plans" JJ said, pulling into a gas station.

They went inside and bought a bunch of snacks, candy, and icee's

They went back to the car and drove to the beach. They found a quiet spot surrounded by tall grass on three sides that over looked the water. They laid a blanket out and had a little picnic with there gas station food.

"You know, today was actually perfect" Kie said, laying her head in his lap and playing with a bracelet on his arm while looking up at the stars

"Even if we almost fell a victim of identity theft" JJ joked

Kie laughed

"Yea, even then" she smiled "today was perfect"

"Did you see the way Marley looked back at us before he left?" JJ said, thinking about it

"I did, yea" she smiled, happy that he noticed it too, and looked up at JJ

"That was kinda cool" he said softly "I swear bro looked me dead in the eyes"

Kie laughed

"We should see if they have anything like that back home" JJ said "who knows, maybe I'll start coming with you to the shelters"

"JJ maybank, a regular volunteer?" she said jokingly shocked "who is this man"

He laughed and looked down and smiled at her.

"You've changed, you know that?" She said softly

He bit the inside of his cheek as he thought about it.

"Have I?" He asked

"Mhm" she nodded, smiling as she looked up at him "the JJ I used to know wouldn't be caught dead at an animal shelter" she laughed

"So he can be fixed" he said, mocking the people who doubted him

"And they said he was a lost cause" she did the same, grabbing his face and slowly pulling him down to kiss her.

They broke away and then she laid back down.

"I'm so in love you JJ" she said after a while, looking up at him.

It wasn't often that they had time completely alone together. She wanted to use this moment to let him know how she really feels. It was late and she was kind of tired, so the words came easily.

He blushed but tried to hide it.

"Yea?" He said, smiling

"You have no idea" she said softly while nodding.

"Kie I got you something" JJ said, reaching in his pocket and pulling out a box.

"What is it?" She asked, sitting up to examine what was in his hands.

"It's nothing crazy, just a little something I made" he shrugged, handing her the box

She looked at him, smiled, and then slowly opened the box.

She slightly gasped when she saw what was inside.

"Is this?" She asked, running her thumb across the shell she had found that morning. JJ had turned the shell into a necklace for her.

"Yep" he said, smiling "same one from this morning" he said and took it out of the box and held it up.

"But how did you?-" she asked "when did you?-"

"When you were in the shower, before I asked your parents if we could even go" he said, handing her the necklace

"JJ this perfect" she said, looking at the shell

"Oh and look" he said, turning the shell over to the back. "See"

On the back he carved there initials into it.

"Stoooooppppp" she said, Her jaw dropped and she looked up at him with love in her eyes. "Are you kidding me this is so cute"

He smiled as he watched her reaction

"Here" he said, taking the necklace and pulling her hair to the side and putting it on for her.

She adjusted it and held the shell tightly in her hand.

"I love it JJ" she said, leaning in and kissing him. "I love you"

"I love you too, Kie" he said and she started leaning forward as he leaned back.

He laid his back on the blanket and she leaned over him. She tossed her hair to the side and kissed him again.

They started making out to the point where they felt like it was going to go further.

"Do you have condoms?" She asked as she was on top of him.

He sighed disappointedly "at the house... but I didn't bring them"

"What why?" She said

"Well I wasn't planning for this part to happen" he tried to defend himself

She kissed him a couple more times and then pulled away. She sat back up and sat on her knees, placing her hands on her thighs as JJ sat back up too.

They were both very disappointed

"Fumbled" JJ said about himself

Kie laughed and looked at him.

He leaned in and kissed her one more time. When he tried to pull away Kie went back in and kissed him more.

They started making out again, and she ended up back on top of him. JJ started pulling at her clothes and running his hands up and down her body.

"Ok maybe just one more time" she whispered, running her hand under his shirt and up his bare chest.

He kissed her harder and started taking off her shirt

"I'll pull out this time. Promise" he reassured as he pulled her shirt over her head and tossed it to the side.

"Ok good idea" she said, going back in to kiss him.

They had sex on the beach that night. When they were done, they covered up with another blanket and looked up at the stars for a little while, listening to the waves crash on the shore while she laid her head on his chest.

They talked for a little while before getting dressed and cleaning all there trash and blankets up.

They walked along the shore, holding hands as they headed back to the car.

It was only 10:00 and they drove home, making it back early.

Her parents were in the living room when they got back and were very impressed that they made it before curfew.

"So how was it?" Mike asked

"It was amazing you guys have no idea" Kie started rambling on excitedly about everything that had happened at the animal shelter to her parents.

JJ added in a couple things every now and then, but mainly just liked watching her talk about how much fun she had.
