Hello my amazing jewellers💎💎
Get it? Because of the title.
No?
Okay imma gonna stop embarrassing myself now🚶🚶
JAWAHIR
This pillow is so warm and comfortable. The said pillow stirred a bit making me groan. Wait! What?! Since when did pillows start moving? I opened my eyes to see my husband laying down beside me. How? And the events that took place in the night rushed through my head.
This is bad. I groaned mentally. Knowing that I didn't pray subhi, I detached myself from him, careful not to wake him up. Because if he wakes up, he'll bombard me with questions I'm not ready to answer.
After my morning business and performing ablution, I walked out of the bathroom. I spread the prayer mat on the floor. Putting on my hijab, I prayed. I prayed to the almighty. I poured what is buried deep in the corner of my mind that I don't want to dwell, HE is Al Aleem; the all knowing and Al Mujib; the responsive.
After saying my Salam, I sat down on the mat for the dhikr. I stood up, while folding the mat I met Aayan's eyes on me.
"Good morning." I said not meeting his burning gaze and kept the mat in it's drawer.
"Hey. Are you okay now?" I nodded my head wordlessly, I can still feel his eyes are on me. He got off the bed and stood tall in front of me.
"Hal anti bikhayr; Are you okay?" He asked again watching me closely. I nodded again still not meeting his gaze.
I heard him sigh. "Okay." He placed a kiss on my forehead before walking out.
I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. I took a bath and put on a shirt with maxi skirt. Tying my hair in a messy ponytail, I went downstairs.
Laura has gone to England to visit her Mom, but she'll be back in a few days. I made the quickest breakfast I could think off. A quick masala French toast with Golden Grahams latte.
Aayan came down when I finished setting the table. We had our breakfast in complete silence, nobody saying anything. I kept on playing with my food, not having an appetite.
"Why aren't you eating?"
"I'm not that hungry."
"Eat or I'll feed you myself." That got me eating. Him and I both know we don't want that to happen. I picked up the plates and walked to the kitchen to wash them after we were through.
Aayan walked in with the rest of the dirty dishes and kept it in the sink. I decided to wash them with my hands since they are not much. I put on a pair of glove. I washed the dishes and put it in the other sink to rinse. Aayan came and stood beside me, folding his sleeves, he started rinsing the dishes.
"Uhm, you don't have to do that. I'll do it myself." I protested.
"It's okay. I'll do it." I left it at that, because I don't have the strength to argue with him.
"Are we really going to pretend that last night didn't happen and not talk about it." He said in that thick unusual but nice accent of his he tries so much to hide. I don't see it happening, because no matter how he tries, it's always noticeable.
"Yeah that's what I was hoping for." I said under my breath.
He sighed and turned to look at me. "Jawahir." He warned.
"It's just a nightmare Aayan, let it be. And everybody gets them once in a while."
"Yes I agree people have them once in a while but yours wasn't a one time thing, you said something about Mammie reciting to you whenever it happens. Which means that it happens frequently." He concluded. Damn! Why does he have to be calculative and observant?
"I haven't had them in a while." I lied through my teeth. He looks like he doesn't believe me but didn't say anything. Phew!
"Don't think this is over."

"Ya Jawjaw go and ask him then please." My little sister persisted. "Yes please." Our auta added.
This kids! "You guys, I said I'll talk to him about it tomorrow didn't I? Why can't you understand?" I complained rubbing my temples.
"Do you know how we finally got Abu to agree?" Nai'a cried out. "Yes. Please Ya Jawahir talk to him before Abu changes his mind." Affan added, I bet he's pouting.
"Okay." I sighed. "I'll talk to him. Happy?"
"Very." They said cheerfully. After saying goodbye I disconnected the call.
Their end of the term holiday started last week. They've been bugging Abu to let them spend it with me—like I once told them— but he wouldn't agree. They finally got him to agree today, but he said they'll have to have Aayan's agreement first and if he doesn't agree —which I know won't happen— then that's it. So they've been pestering me to go talk to him before Abu decides otherwise.
He's likely to be in his room now. I dragged my feet to his room. Standing in front of the door I knocked. After he gave me the go ahead, I entered. I've never set foot in his room. Can you believe that? His room screams male. The floor is entirely black, the furnitures too. The doors leading to the bathroom closet and balcony are white, the curtains too but with a stripe of black. The bed is also black with white bedding and black pillow cases, the bedside drawers are also black with white lamps on each. An ottoman with a black and white stripes in front of the bed, and a small white rug with black details under it and a little beneath the bed. I've never seen so much black in one place.
I met him on the bed with a few papers scattered around and his laptop in front of him. "Hey Jawahir, what is it?" Said Aayan lifting his head to look at me. "Take a sit." He told me pointing the bed.
"Uhm, I-I'm." I stuttered. I should have thought this through, I smacked myself mentally.
"Relax Jawahir. Go on." He urged.
I took a deep breath and exhaled. "You see Nai'a and Affan are on holiday and I was thinking maybe if they could spend it here?"
He hummed, thinking. "Yeah, why not?"
Yay!
"But...." But what?
"It'll have to be later this week because the room they'll be staying in will have to be ready. I have to make arrangements for it."
"Oh no! Aayan it's okay. They can use one of the guest rooms like that. You don't need to make any adjustments." I declined.
"No. They'll be more comfortable in a kids friendly environment. Let me do this, please." He insisted.
"Okay." I agreed.
He nodded and smiled —not that full blown one, the small type but a smile nonetheless— and focused on his work again. When I stood up I noticed a picture of a beautiful lady clad in an elegant gown on the bedside table. The picture looks like it was taken unexpectedly because she is amidst laughing, her head thrown back carelessly and freely. She looked serene.
Who is she? A pass lover maybe? Present? I wanted to ask but decided against it. I quietly turned around to leave the room. My hand on the knob I remembered something. I swirled to face him again.
"Do you think I should ask Amal to join us?" I inquired. I can remember her saying something like that and it will be lovely if she did. The house wouldn't be so lonely anymore-at least for a while.
"She'll be elated." I nodded softly and walked out of the room still wondering who that lady in the picture is and what her relationship with my husband is. She's definitely close and dear to him for him to keep her picture there, a relative maybe? But not even Ammiey's or his family's picture is there or maybe I didn't notice. She'll or she is the first thing he sees when he wakes up and the last thing before going to bed and that stirred an unfamiliar feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Forget about it Jaw. Now go call Ammiey then call your siblings. I waltzed to the backyard patio to ring up Ammiey.
The fresh air hits my body as soon as I walked out. It's nice to feel fresh and natural air with the sun warming you a bit. It's calming. Taking a seat, I dialed Ammiey's number. She picked up after the fourth ring we exchanged pleasantries and I told her the reason I called.
"I'm sure she'll...." She couldn't complete her sentence because a loud shrill cuts her off.
"Naam; yes. Sa'ahabbu an ati; I'll love to come." She screamed yikes making me move the phone away from my ear. Sometimes I forget that the girl speaks Arabic, she rarely does. She's hell bent on being fluent in Hausa.
"Hal tuhawilu an taj alni asm; Are you trying to make me deaf?" Ammiey reprimanded her. "I can decide not to let you go." She threatened. But I know she's bluffing.
"No!" Amal whined. "I'm sorry, kiyi hakuri."
Ammiey laughed and told her she was just joking. I told them that I'll pick her up when the room is done. I called Mama too, we exchanged pleasantries and talked for a bit. It feels like I haven't seen them forever, tho I try to talk to them at least twice a week or more. I delivered the message to her since my soon to be enhutu have gone to islamiya.
Hmm who's the lady in the picture? And who is she to Aayan?
