Ch. 7: A Father-Daughter Bond

As Joker got ready for bed, Jessie started to cry. "Oh, is daddy's lil girl hungry?" Joker said as he picked Jessie up. "Let's go get you a bottle, my sweet little clown," Joker said as he walked with Jessie in his arms down to the kitchen. Once they were in the kitchen, Joker placed Jessie in her bouncer, while he got her bottle ready. Then there was a thunderstorm that shock the house and knocked the power out. Jessie cried for her daddy, due to the fact of the darkness and the storm. Joker went into the living room and got Jessie out of her bouncer and placed her in his arms. "Oh, baby girl. It's okay. I'm here and I won't let nothing hurt/ scare you." Joker said soothingly. Jessie did calm down, but not much. Joker took the lid off the bottle and placed the bottle's nipple in Jessie's mouth and started to feed her. After Jessie had finished her bottle, Joker took the bottle and placed it on the table, burped her, and held her in his arms. All of a sudden, there was a thunder rumble that scared Jessie. "Don't cry, little clown. Shh... I'm here. Shh..., daddy's here." Joker said as he rubbed Jessie's back.

Jessie looked up at her daddy with tear-filled blue eyes. "What if Daddy sings you a lullaby?" He said as he placed her in his arms. "Hush little Jessie, don't you cry. Daddy's gonna sing you a lullaby. Lullaby and good night go to sleep, my baby. Close your eyes now little one. Time to dream." Joker sang while he rocked Jessie to sleep. "Boy, what have you got yourself into?" A voice said. "Singing a lullaby to a good-for-nothing baby. Boy, you really are pathetic." Another voice said. "I'm not going soft. I'm a father now and I have to protect my daughter." Joker said inside his head. "You're getting attached to the baby!!! You should've killed her the night you found her!!!" A third voice said. "No! I want to protect her!!! She'll be a killer just like me." Joker yelled back at the voices. "You're no killer!!! You are a disgrace!!!!" A fourth voice said. "GODDAMN, IT!!!!!! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!" Joker yelled, waking Jessie. Joker groaned because he had it with the voices and Jessie crying, but he knew that she was just a baby, so he couldn't yell at her. Just then Frost came out of his room. "Take her. I need to be alone and away from her." Joker ordered as he handed Jessie to him. "Sure, boss," Frost said as he placed Jessie in his arms. Joker went upstairs and slammed his door. "There, there Jessie. It's okay. Uncle Frosty has you. Shh..., baby girl." Frost said as he soothed Jessie. A few minutes later, the lights came back on.

Back upstairs in Joker's bedroom, he went into a fit of rage. Destroying everything in sight, including Jessie's bassinet. As he snapped out of his rage and saw what he had done to the bassinet, he stood over it and cried tears of pain. "What have I done? What have I done?!!!!!" He yelled. Meanwhile, downstairs in the kitchen, Frost had tried everything to calm Jessie down but nothing worked. Just then Joker came down and heard his daughter was still crying. "Here. Give her to me. I know she wants me." Joker said. Frost handed Jessie over to Joker, who took her into the living room and sat on the couch with her. "Oh. Baby girl. I'm so sorry that I scared you. Daddy would NEVER scare you, but he did. I feel so terrible for yelling and scaring you. Can you forgive me, Jessie?" He said as he pulled her into his arms and hugged his baby girl. "I love you so much, Jessie. I promise that I will NEVER scare you like that again." Joker said as tears rolled down his face. After a long love-felt hug, Joker put his head up to see Jessie smiling at him. "I love you, Jessie," Joker said. Just then he saw Jessie give a tiny yawn and had a sleepy look in her eyes. "I think it's time for bed," Joker said as he got off the couch and went upstairs. As they were walking up the stairs, Jessie tried to talk, but all she did was babble. Joker smiled and started to have a conversation with his baby girl. "Oh is that what happened? No way. (Gasp) that's sooooo not true. I love you more, little clown." Joker said as he continued to talk with his little Princess. Once they reached the nursery, they both saw the bat signal, Jessie buried her face into her daddy's chest. "Don't worry, my lil Clown. Daddy's here and I won't let that mean ol' bat hurt you. No, I won't." Joker cooed as Jessie stuck her tongue out at the bat signal. Joker laughed and said, " That's my girl."

He put Jessie in her crib and covered her with a baby blanket. He didn't want to leave her, so he got the rocking chair and put it right by her crib. A few minutes later, Jessie started to whimper in her sleep. Joker got her out of the crib and let her sleep in his arms. "Good night baby girl," Joker said as he drifted off to sleep with his baby girl in his arms.
