Ch. 26: The Day the Clown Cried (Final)

Recap from the last chapter- "Why does that woman look so familiar to me?" Joker asked himself. "I'm sorry my dear, but this is a private funeral." "I know. I just wanted to say goodbye to my daughter."

As Joker made his way to stand, he noticed the small boy and knew who the woman was. "You! I thought I told you to stay away from my daughter!" He said. "I just wanted to see her. She was MY DAUGHTER!!!! NOT YOURS!!!" She yelled. "You wanted nothing to do with her when she was born! YOU LEFT HER OUTSIDE IN THE COLD TO DIE! YOU ABANDED HER AND NOW YOU ARE WITH THREE OTHER KIDS!" He yelled. Harley and Jared broke the fight up between the two. "Don't you think that I regret doing that to her? I regret it every day. I gave her up so she would be saved from my ex. HE WAS THE ONE WHO REALLY WANTED HER DEAD! NOT ME!" She yelled as tears rolled down her face. "Then why? Why did you abandon her? Jessie was just a tiny innocent little newborn baby, left alone in this cruel, dark world. But I found her and took her in and raised her as my own. I could've done something else but the way she looked at me, I knew I had to protect her from any danger. I finally felt love again, but now it's gone again." Joker said as held back his tears. "Papa? Who is that lady?" Heaven asked. "That's no one sweetie. Just one of your mommy's friends." He lied, for he could bear to tell his grandchildren the truth. "Say your goodbyes and please leave." He said as he returned to the stand.

"Oh, my God. You're so beautiful. I'm sorry that I left you and said those nasty things to you. I wish I could take it back. I'm so sorry baby girl." Jessie's birth mother said as she broke down crying. "Mom? Is that our sister?" Her eldest son asked. "Yes." The eldest looked at his mother with hate in her eyes. "How could you?  Let me guess she wasn't good enough for you, was she? Was she?!" "It's not like that baby. You don't understand." "I understand that this stranger was your daughter, who you gave up so you could save yourself. I hate you!" He said as he ran out of the church.  Joker cleared his throat and began to read his speech. "Jessie was the best thing that happened to me. She made me into a better man and for the first time in my life I became a father. She was my ray of sunshine that I loved waking up to every day and night. As she got older we had our fights here and there, but we still loved each other. Then when she told me she wanted to get married, I thought to myself, my baby is growing up and was going to leave me. I felt sad but I got five wonderful grandchildren who love me as well as my... girlfriend does.  I know that this isn't goodbye, it's only see you later. Goodbye, my sweet princess. Daddy will always love you." He said as he kissed her forehead one last time. After the funeral and Jessie's casket was buried,  everyone went home. Joker didn't want to be bothered for he just buried his only child, the one person other than Harley, he truly loved.  Jared and the kids were just so drained from the funeral, so they spent the night there at the mansion.

Early the next day Jared and the kids went back home, which was very painful knowing that their mother/wife wasn't there anymore. "It's going to be okay, Dad," Luna said as she hugged him. "I know sweetie. How about we invite Uncle Shannon, aunt Vicki, and uncle Tomo over?" "Yay!" They all shouted as Jared called his brother and best friend. Meanwhile, back at the mansion, Joker wasn't the same. He wasn't eating, drinking, or sleeping. Harley was very worried about him and told Frost to call a doctor. The doctor checked Joker out and told Harley that he should see a psychiatrist. That gave Harley the idea to be Joker's doctor again. She got dressed in her old lab coat and grabbed her notebook. She pushed and made sure that the couch in Joker's office was nice and comfy for him. She tried to do her session with him, but he was just so depressed. She tried to cheer him by going out and chasing Batsy, but no reaction. Everywhere Joker went a memory of him and Jessie would play out in his mind. He remembered when he first brought her home. She was so small, but yet so beautiful. He remembered the first time he held her and gave her, her name. "J-Jessie." He cried.  He walked passed her bedroom and he fell to his knees and cried. He got into her bed and hugged her pillow and held her close to his chest. Harley never saw him like this, before. But she knew that he was hurting for he just lost his little clown and his world.  Meanwhile, outside of the mansion, someone had been watching from the very beginning.
