Scary Stories
Jenny's POV
So the weather is going to be nice for the beach. I am excited for the warmer weather and plan on going hiking after school one day. Emmet and Edward weren't at school today. Apparently they left early to enjoy the coming weather. Camping. I don't blame them, I would of to if not for dad. Alice and I settled on a day for to come over for the final dress fitting.
Anyway Bella has cancelled our trip to Seattle. Well more like replaced me for Edward. But I'm fine with it. Means I can go help Alice and Rosalie get ready for the Spring dance instead. Bella apologized for canceling our plans for Seattle. But I assure her it's fine.
I started teasing her about dating Edward. Especially when she told me she had invited him to La Push and he had declined. She starts blushing like mad every time I bring him up. Anyway, we woke up to the sun today. And I drove us to the Newton's shop after a quick breakfast. Bella made me promise not to mention her inviting Edward. Which I agreed to, only I can tease my sister about her crush on Edward Cullen. No one else.
In the parking lot I recognized Mike's Suburban and Tyler's Sentra. As I pulled up next to their vehicles, I could see the group standing around in front of the Suburban. Eric was there, along with two other boys Bella had class with; I think their names are Ben and Conner. Jess was there, flanked by Angela and Lauren. Two other girls stood with them. I appeared to be to oldest one present, oh joy. Means I have to be responsible and will be blamed if anything happens at La Push. I considered going home and leaving Bella with her class mates, but I really wanted to go to the beach. So decided to stay.
Mike was really happy to see Bella when we got out of my car. "You both came!" he shouts happily. "And I said it would be sunny today, didn't I?" he asks.
"I told you I was coming" Bella reminds him.
"We're just waiting for Lee and Samantha. . . unless you invited someone" he states.
"Nope" Bella lies.
"Will you ride in my car? It's that or Lee's mom's minivan" Mike explains.
"Sure" Bella says.
"I'm fine either way" I state shrugging. The other two finally arrived. Lee brought two extra people, and suddenly every seat was necessary. Bella managed to wedge Jess in between Mike and me in the front seat of the Suburban. Mike could have been more graceful about it, but at least Jess seemed appeased. While I sat in the back with Eric and Angela. Everyone rode in the minivan.
It was only fifteen miles to La Push from Forks. With gorgeous, dense green forests edging the road most of the way and the wide Quillayute River snaking beneath it twice. I wish I had a window seat, so that I could enjoy the view. We'd rolled the windows down, the Suburban was a bit claustrophobic.
I'd been to the beaches around La Push many times during my Forks summers with dad, so the mile-long crescent of First Beach was familiar to me. It was still breathtaking. I can tell Bella was awed as well by it, though it'd been a few years since she was last here.
The water was dark gray, even in the sunlight, white-capped and heaving to the gray, rocky shore. Islands rose out of the steel harbor waters with sheer cliff sides, reaching to uneven summits, and crowned with austere, soaring firs. The beach had only a thin border of actual sand at the water's edge, after which it grew into millions of large, smooth stones that looked uniformly gray from a distance, but close up were every shade a stone could be: terra-cotta, sea green, lavender, blue gray, dull gold. The tide line was strewn with huge driftwood trees, bleached bone white in the salt waves, some piled together against the edge of the forest fringe, some lying solitary, just out of reach of the waves.
There was a brisk wind coming off the waves, cool and briny. Pelicans floated on the swells while seagulls and a lone eagle wheeled above them. The clouds still circled the sky, threatening to invade at any moment, but for now the sun shone bravely in its halo of blue sky. Once we reached the beach, we started a fire. Bella watched the dancing blue green flames crackle toward the sky.
After a half hour of chatter, some of the boys wanted to hike to the nearby tidal pools. Most of the girls besides Angela and Jessica decided to stay on the beach as well. I waited until Tyler and Eric had committed to remaining with them. Bella went with the hiking group. While I put on my wet-suit and grabbed a board. I went surfing, I used to do it all the time with the two Black sisters Rachel and Rebecca.
(Time skip)
I soon grew hungry and see the others return with Bella. As I approach the fire, I notice we had been joined by some locals. I notice a familiar face sitting by Bella. "Jacob!" I cheer and hug him from behind. He's like a little brother to me.
"Hi Jenny, surprised to see you here" he says.
"Someone has to watch the children with your sisters gone" I state and he chuckles. I grab a plate of food and sit on his other side. "So what were you two talking about?" I ask curious.
"I just asked Bella how the truck is going" he states.
"I love it. It runs great" Bella tells him.
"Yeah, but it's really slow" he says with a laugh. "I was so relived when Charlie bought it. My dad wouldn't let me work on building another car when we had a perfectly good vehicle right there" he explains.
"It's not that slow" Bella defends her car.
"Have you tried to go over sixty?" I ask her.
"No" she answers.
"Good, don't" Jacob tells her.
"It does great in a collision" Bella states.
"True" I agree.
"I don't think a tank could take out that old monster" Jacob says with a laugh.
"So you build cars?" Bella asks him impressed.
"When I have free time, and parts. You wouldn't happen to know where I could get my hands on a master cylinder for a 1986 Volkswagen Rabbit?" he asks us jokingly.
"I haven't seen any lately, but I'll keep my eyes open for you" Bella tells him.
"So will I" I assure him.
"You know Bella and Jenny, Jacob?" Lauren asks.
"We've sort of known each other since I was born" he tells her.
"Pretty sure, I used to baby sit you" I tease and he pushes me playfully.
"I was just saying to Tyler that it was too bad none of the Cullens could come out today. Didn't anyone think to invite them?" Lauren asks and I roll my eyes. She always has to cause drama. Wish Bella would ditch her and Jessica, but I'm not going to boss her around.
"You mean Dr. Carlisle Cullen's family?" Sam asks. Sam Uley, if I remember correctly. Last I heard he was dating Leah Clearwater.
"Yes, do you know them?" Lauren asks.
"The Cullens don't come here" he states and the subject is dropped. I knew the Cullens didn't come here. But his tone had implied something more that they weren't allowed; they were prohibited. Which is odd. But then I remember the story Rachel and Rebecca told me about. Maybe it's not a story.
I'll ask Alice about it next time I see her. I focus back on my food as Bella left with Jacob for a walk. I watch them from the corner of my eye, I think Jacob maybe developing a small crush on my little sister.
They return as we start to pack up. We all return to the Mike's parents shop. I then drive Bella and I home. "So what were you and Jacob talking about?" I ask her curious.
"He told me some local scary stories" she states.
"Lucky you, those are sacred. Don't tell anyone" I tell her.
"I swore to take it to my grave" she assures me.
"Good" I tell her.
"Have you heard them?" she asks me curious.
"Even if I had, I wouldn't tell you. It's a secret for a reason Bella and you made a promise. I won't have you break it by telling me" I tell her. Besides I already know them. I add in my head.
"But we are sisters and you would tell no one" she states.
"Even so, it'd be best if I found out on my own. That way you keep your promise to Jacob" I tell her. She nods her head. We arrive home and I go make myself a microwave dinner. While Bella claimed to have homework and wasn't hungry. Dad was to into the baseball game on telly to really notice us.
