Jenny and Elijah were both damned, maybe all the way from the start, but it didn't stop their two hearts from making love in the dark. Bliss burned sweet and the caresses on her bare skin burned evermore.

The words of I love you were stained onto her lips as she laid bare beneath the sheets in the morning. He was still sleeping and he looked so peaceful as she combed her fingers through his hair gently before laying a soft kiss above his brow.

She left the warmth of being tangled up in his embrace to take a shower but a little smile formed on her face that showed a brightness that couldn't be diminished.

______

Elijah couldn't stop staring at her now that he joined her in the kitchen. There was a bright look in his eyes as he gazed at her.

"What?" she questioned, smiling brightly, as she made a bagel.

"You're smiling."

"Yes, I do that. It's apparently what I'm known for."

"I missed that..." Elijah responded, a little smile of his own forming that he got her to smile again after two weeks. "...you being happy. That's all I ever want for you."

Her heart skipped a beat before she responded quietly, "I only want that for you, too, you know."

"Well, you don't need to worry about that," Elijah smiled a bit brighter. "I'm happy as long as I have you, Jenny."

_____

They planned to leave Paris and before they did, Jenny got a postcard. She was sending it to Damon and it took her awhile to decide what to say to him in a way that would convey her feelings to everyone. In the end it was sent out with the words:

I know and I forgive you.
        -Love Always, Jenny

She couldn't really stay mad at everyone when she wasn't mad at Elijah. That and Damon was her only friend; even though she didn't know his true nature, she didn't have to, to know him completely. And perhaps she couldn't quite let go of Damon because he had been there at times when Elijah wasn't, at times when she really needed someone, and that meant something to her.

And if somehow things didn't work out with Elijah, she knew she'd always have a shoulder to cry on in Damon. Love always, indeed.

______

Jenny and Elijah traveled to Italy and this time they stayed in a house his family owned. There were people compelled to take care of the house but there were still so many white sheets covering everything that had to be taken off and put away.

While they were in Italy, they visited many places with historical significance. Apparently, Elijah felt the need to give her an historical monologue at each one.

They were standing in the middle of the ruins of an ancient town that wasn't as populated by tourists like the Colosseum. Elijah was talking and she leaned up kissing him on the cheek, making him pause.

"You know, I don't need a history lecture each time we visit somewhere," she said.

Elijah hummed as he tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear, "And I thought I got you to like history."

She chuckled, "Elijah, your diary was like a horror story. Horror is my favorite genre. History on the other hand is just...boring...unless it's about you."

"For someone that smiles so much, someone would think you'd despise horror," Elijah commented before smiling as he rested a hand on the small of her back. "But you do love me."

Jenny looked up at him into that bright gaze of his. Yes, she loved horror stories but they had always been just stories. She never thought she'd find herself in one or find herself in love with one. A vampire and a human, together, and she didn't belong in his world but his was the only one where'd she'd stay.

She could have left Elijah and had a simpler more normal story but she wanted her horror story; she wanted her horrors and nightmares because she was much happier amidst dark, dreadful things than she'd ever be amidst bright ones.

"Yes, I do love you," Jenny uttered quietly with a soft smile.

______

A couple days later it was nearing the evening and she was in the kitchen pulling out a drink from the fridge. She had paused seeing the blood bags (it would probably always make her pause) because Elijah was different with her in a way that made her sometimes forget that he was this other species. She'd think about the incident but then she'd quickly get over that because Elijah was her bright, dreadful thing that she loved.

She closed the fridge once she heard the front door open and close. She thought it was odd because Elijah was upstairs. But then a voice startled her making her drop the drink.

"So this is where you and my brother ran off to."

Jenny turned to see Niklaus leaning against the doorway with a smirk on his face. She wanted to wipe it off as she neared him quietly. He didn't sense the silent anger and grief in her eyes.

"So pray, tell, where is he?" he asked, looking up at the ceiling as if he could sense his brother's presence, as she stopped in front of him.

"You killed Jenna," she uttered quietly and his eyes snapped to her. He finally caught on to her hidden distress and by then it was too late. Niklaus Mikaelson was unpleasantly surprised by little, human Jenny Stevens when she punched him.

His head snapped to the side from the force of it. "So my brother told you," he wiped the blood from the corner of his lip and he turned his head back to her, fixing her with an angry gaze. "Did he also tell you I have quite the temper?"

"I don't care. You deserved that and you know it," she crossed her arms. "Deal with it."

The two of them were in a heated glaring match when Elijah found them. He analyzed the blood on the his brother's chin that hadn't been completely wiped away and he wondered what happened in the five minutes he was gone. He quickly pulled Jenny behind him to protect her from his brother's wrath.

Elijah looked at Jenny, "Will you give us a moment?"

She nodded and left the room, going upstairs. Niklaus's gaze followed her, "Your girlfriend has quite the right hook, Elijah."

Elijah sighed, "What are you doing here, Niklaus?"

"I'm on the hunt for the illusive cure as it turns out," Klaus informed. "The Brotherhood of the Five has returned and I needed to dig up the sword our sister buried."

"Let me guess, you want the cure to create more of your hybrids," Elijah stated. "And where is our sister?"

"How am I to know? It's not like I keep track of her whereabouts," Klaus answered.

"Or more likely you daggered her in a box as you constantly love to do to us," Elijah responded and Klaus rolled his eyes.

"How long are you here for?" Elijah asked.

"So eager to get rid of me, are you?" Klaus smirked. "Well, don't worry, I already found the sword. I'm only here for the night as I'm sure your beloved Jenny will be glad to hear."

"Don't go near her, Niklaus," Elijah warned.

"So protective," Klaus chuckled before growing serious. "And how long do you think it will last with her, Elijah? She's only a mere human."

            ______

Jenny had waited in the comfort of their bedroom before Elijah joined her. He told her Klaus was only staying for the night. Now they laid on the bed with Elijah holding her in his arms. She was quite sad with the thought of Jenna but his gentle hold pieced her all back together.

Elijah thought about all the vampires with centuries to their lives that wouldn't dare trifle with his brother, yet, she didn't hesitate to punch him. He was impressed but worried as Jenny couldn't afford to be brave; it would get her killed one day. He thought about the question his brother posed. Elijah didn't know what he would do if it didn't last because he loved her more than he had loved anything.

AN: I hated this chapter. It's awful but I'm moving on.
