RWBY Volume 6 Chapter 7: The Grimm Reaper
Today I have a surprise this review will have LillianDuncan as my co host. So we will both be giving our opinions. So this will be me talking and this will be Lilly.
As usual this will contain SPOILERS! If you don't want to spoiled I suggest you leave now.
To start things off I didn't think the scene with Cinder and Neo was necessary. I feel like it wasn't needed in the beginning of this episode. It would've been better to have it at the end of their fight in chapter 5.
Also I found Cinder's cocky attitude to be annoying. The fact that she thinks that Salem isn't going to punish her for Haven is foolish. And she looked like a little kid playing with playdo when she made her dagger only to melt it five seconds later. I also don't think that her and Neo's alliance will work out.
Some people also pointed out in episode 5 that Neo looked taller then when she was in the show previously. Well they fixed it in this episode. Also the relic door is no longer glowing. It fact it has vanished altogether. Most likely due to the relic being gone.
Now let's switch over to the flashback. I love Maria's huntress outfit. I love her skull accessories and the cool hooded cape. Apparently all scythe wielders have to wear capes.
The fight with her and the nevermore was probably the best usage of gravity dust I've ever seen. I like how her scythes are basically magnets and by just a push of a button she can call one of the scythes back to her if she loses it or throws it somewhere. Also it was strange that her silver eyes only turned the Grimm to stone instead of wiping it out. Maybe her feelings about her family and friends aren't as strong as Ruby's.
Now let's talk about Tock. I love that she's based on the Tic Toc Croc from Peter Pan. Her outfit is the perfect balance of crocodile green and pirate gear. Also her mohawk and metal teeth is sick.
Her semblance is also super awesome. That fact that she's invulnerable for 1 minute is very creative. I can tell this fight took a long time to animate because if you look at the time stamp it runs from 6:09-7:09 exactly one minute. After she hurt Maria's eyes by the way I couldn't help but notice that she mentioned a master. It has to be Salem. Oh and Maria's scythe becomes her cane in the present.
Back in the present I loved finding out that Qrow based his weapon off of Maria's. And since we know Ruby based hers off Qrow's then that means in a way her weapon is based off Maria's.
Qrow is a total fanboy.
Yes thank you Lilly.
Also can we talk about how adorable Oscar was in this scene. He and Ruby looked so cute sitting together. Also Oscar why are you asking now a legend can just disappear when Ozpin vanished into your mind.
I do admit that Maria made a bad choice when she decided to give up being a huntress just because her eyes got damaged. She should have worked through her setback instead of going into hiding.
Maria is also a savage for calling Qrow a disappointment just like her. Also I found it interesting that Maria looked at Yang when she mentioned the group being stronger then she was in her prime. Since Yang, according to Blake, is the personification of strength. Also when Jaune called Ruby I thought it was hilarious that he was labeled as "Vomit Boy" on her scroll.
As we make our way into Argus I have to say I love the city so much. It's beautiful and a nice blend of Mistral culture and Atlas tech.
When Nora showed up and called Oscar "cute boy Oz" I immediately thought of her using that nickname in volume 5. Also I loved the hugs between pairings you wouldn't expect. Like Yang and Ren and Blake and Jaune.
Exactly I mentioned in my Dark Knight/Feline Sick ship opinion that I really wanted more moments between Blake and Jaune even if they were platonic as opposed to romantic. This scene was definitely a good step toward that.
Now let's talk about the scene that everyone has been waiting for. Our first meeting with Saphron, one of Jaune's seven previously mentioned sisters. But first let's talk about the cute Freezerburn moment with Yang and Weiss playing with Jaune's nephew Adrian. They would make excellent mothers.
Agreed. Now something that I randomly noticed that Maria's shawl randomly turned from blue to green when she was inside. Weird. Anyway I also liked seeing the picture of Jaune and his sisters. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that each one of the Arc kids is named after a color of the rainbow. Because Saffron is a shade of orange and Jaune is French for yellow. So I'm assuming that the oldest is named after red then we get green, blue, indigo, and violet. And the girl in green is obviously a Camp Camp reference.
Also I really like Saphron's wife Terra and their relationship. They are so sweet to each other and I really like their loving gazes to each other and how they just causally hold hands on the couch in front of people.
I couldn't help but notice that Terra mentioned that the relay tower was broken recently. I feel like it has to do with Watts.
To end the episode I feel like Winter is gonna show up in the next episode.
I hope she does. That would be great.
Overall this was a very enjoyable episode.
