RWBY Volume 6 Chapter 4: So That's How It Is
As usual I'm giving a SPOILER WARNING!!! If you don't want to be spoiled I suggest leaving. If you don't care let's go
This entire episode was very emotional. To start things off it was very weird to see everyone get so mad at Ozpin for what they found out, I expected Yang to get mad but not the others and especially not Ruby. Also it was really weird to find out Ozpin really doesn't have a plan on defeating Salem. If you don't have a plan dude then why do you need this army with you to go to Atlas? Couldn't you just take the relic there yourself if all you want to do is seal it away? But that's just my opinion. Seriously though can someone give Qrow a hug? I mean yes I loved when Qrow punched Oz in the face but him saying that he followed Ozpin because he made him feel like he was needed despite being cursed with bad luck before saying that meeting Oz now feels like the worse luck in his life. Just oww my heart! Also did not expect Ozpin off all people to begin crying! It was really unexpected. But now I wonder what's going to happen since Ozpin has locked himself away in Oscar's mind. Will we see him again? I don't know. Props to Maria though for calming everyone down, I loved that she kept such a level head when all this madness was going down. Oh and a little bit of adorable RoseGarden at the end when they were both holding Oscar's cane and Ruby told him that he didn't have to worry about living his life despite being paired with Ozpin. And this may be a nitpick but where was Jinn? It seemed like she just disappeared. Oh well.
As for the next scene I couldn't help but notice that the airship Mercury, Emerald, and Hazel were in looked like the ones from Mistral. So either they took it when they left Haven or this was another thing Leo gave to them when he worked for Salem. And hooray Tyrian's back....said no one ever. But yep he's back and he has a new tail, it looks like it has a metal cap on it similar to Yang's arm when she takes the robotic part off so maybe the stinger attaches to it? I don't know. What I do know is that I loved Emerald fighting back against Tyrian but of course he had to be all creepy in saying "careful Cinder's not here to protect you anymore." Before cutting his face on her blade. But I did love Mercury standing up for Emerald. Can you Thief and the Butcher for the win?!
Now I have been saying since I saw volume 4 that I don't think Hazel is a bad guy. I can't explain it but he just doesn't seem like one to me. After watching volume 5 all I see is a broken man who blames someone for the death of his little sister and wishes for that person to feel his pain. After all his semblance is pain immunity which leads me to believe he's someone who buries his pain deep inside him and doesn't let the damage show. I can firmly say though after watching this next scene, my feelings about him being good have grown even stronger. The fact that Hazel took the blame for the Haven plan failing says a lot about his character, I think he knew he would be punished but I also think he did it so Emerald and Mercury would live. He really doesn't see any good in someone dying for nothing and would put his own life on the line. I also think he knows Mercury and Emerald are good people and he doesn't want them to die. That being said though, what the heck Salem?! I mean I expected you to use your magic to maybe beat Hazel against the wall a few times but not using a bunch of Grimm arms to hold him down and smother him. Oh and I did find if funny that she threw the table against the wall and Tyrian just let himself get hit with it while Watts calmly walked away.
So apparently Salem knows Cinder is alive and that she's the reason why the Haven planned failed. I really do think that thats even more proof of my theory that Cinder is being controlled by the Grimm bug. I mean if Salem can control it then she would know if it died right? Right. It also appears that Salem isn't going to let Cinder come back until she fixes what she did. Oh and Tyrian you're insane for thinking Salem is your savior. And Watts you're a kissup. Once again I will note though that Salem says that what her faction wants can only be achieved through her. And now that we know she possesses magic. I feel like they all must want some supernatural amazing thing. Or not again I don't know.
Ok so I like how Salem's plan was to head to Vacuo not Atlas. I at first thought that's the reason why Ozpin told them to go there but I guess not. But now Salem knows Ozpin is alive and that they're going to Atlas and she is not happy. And yeah I'm with you guys, if I see Salem getting mad I'm booking it the heck out of there too. That scream though from Salem was frightening especially when she broke all the windows in her main room. But based on the look on Emerald's face I can possibly see a redemption arc in her future.
To finish the episode I wonder what's going to happen in the farm team RWBY and co are currently staying at. Also I've seen on Twitter that Brunswick Farms is a nod to Legend of Sleepy Hollow, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Overall I enjoyed this episode a ton. There were so many times I thought a certain character was going to die but I was happy when they didn't.
