Chapter 63: The play
Ok first off I want to say that I have tried my best to make this look like a play. But to me, it doesn't even look like one. So, I'm sorry if it doesn't look too good. Let's just say that the school is very good at special effects and changing the stuff on set to make the scenes link. And here's a few things you should take note:
-This is cast speaking/singing
-This is narrator speaking to the audience
-This is description
One more thing! I will address the cast as their role names, not their real ones. For example, 'Eliza is walking on the street' becomes to 'Cadence is walking on the street'.
And here are the roles just in case you don't remember:
Eliza as Cadence/Princess Aria
Elijah as Jayden/Prince Aron
Kristine as Liana
Zack as Duncan
Celine as Guinevere (Twins' real mother)
Noah as Tristan (Twins' uncle)
Katy as Lorraine
Tom as Scott
Marty as David (Cadence's father)
Helen as Emily (Cadence's mother)
Sabrina as Miranda
Shade as Marquis
Daniel as Store assistant
Third Person POV
The stage slowly dimmed and the play began. "The Darkness raged across the magical land of Avonlea, overpowering the forces of light. The twins of ice and snow, were born on Christmas Eve." One light was focused on a hooded man carrying two newborn babies, running to the middle of the stage, placing them down safely and walked away. "And so was a new hope. The prophecy says that only the twins can restore Avonlea. But can they escape the Darkness on their very day of birth?"
Two people entered the stage. "The children! Their still alive." Liana said as she and Duncan went to the twins.
"Hurry, we must hide them." Duncan ordered. "Here, I'll take Aria." He lifted up Aria. "I'll take Aron." Liana carried little Aron.
"Quickly!" Duncan and Liana ran. "Our fate is in their hands now."
"Well actually it's in our hands." Liana said.
"What?" Duncan asked.
"Well they are fate, and... They're in our hands. So technically-"
"Would you just go?! The Darkness won't stop until it finds them. I'll meet you in another dimension." Duncan cut in.
"Right." Liana quickly walked.
"The twins aren't safe together!" Duncan reminded.
Liana stopped in her tracks and turned back to Duncan. "Wait, are we going to the dimension that's purple or-"
"Just run!" Duncan snapped and they parted ways.
The curtain was drawn and buildings were quickly placed, ready for the next scene.
Half the stage was lit with Liana entered the stage carrying Aron. "Don't worry little one, you'll be safe here!" With that, she ran towards the hospital. "All we can hope is that Duncan got away."
Duncan now, entering the other half of the stage, running. "Don't worry Aria. It's ok little one." He spotted a hospital. "You're going to be safe. I don't think we were followed." As he was running towards it, a red jolly guy stopped him dead in his tracks, frightening him. He ignored the guy's "ho, ho, ho" and ran. "Don't worry Aria, you'll soon get used to their strange ways."
"And so the twins were sent to Earth, each of them were adopted by different people. Unaware of each other's existence or their powers, they grew up in separate families. Aria, was given the name Cadence, grew up with a rich family. On her 12th birthday..."
The curtains were reopened, this time with Cadence, sitting on her desk. Her parents slowly and quietly approached her with a small cake. Before they could surprise Cadence, Cadence stood up and turned around. "Surprise!" She squealed. "Gotcha."
"I swear one of these mornings I'm just gonna stick your head in the cake." David said.
"Oh I told you we wouldn't be able to surprise her, during Christmas Eve and Christmas she's awake first thing in the morning!" Emily laughed. "Happy birthday Cadence." She gave Cadence a hug.
"Thanks mom." Cadence replied.
"So, what do you want to do today? Today's all about you." Emily stroked Cadence's hair.
"Which was not much different from yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that...." David stated and the audience laughed.
(Set change)
"Aron, was given the name Jayden, was adopted by a single mother who did not have much money. Despite that, she raised Jayden by doing odd jobs. However, Jayden lost his mother a few months ago and had to work with his best friend, Scott, to make ends meet."
Jayden is seen lying down on the couch, wide awake. Scott approached him with a bowl of cereal, with a candle in the middle. "Happy birthday." Scott smiled. "I'm serving you breakfast on couch to celebrate."
Jayden smiled and blew the candle. "Thanks." He looked at his watch and quickly got up. "Oh man, I gotta get out of here!"
"You got big birthday plans?" Scott asked.
"No, I gotta go to work!" Jayden replied.
"But Jayden, we don't go to work this early. We still have time." Scott said.
"Oh didn't I tell you? I got a new job." Jayden stated. "The pay's slightly better. I'm just glad they would accept people our age."
"It ain't easy finding jobs this young." Scott huffed.
"Well, mom did all sorts of jobs and- Oh mom..." Jayden sighed.
Scott comforted him."You sure you ok with this new job? You have to show me! Maybe I can get there too! Ask your manager or something. Now it's gonna be all lonely without you at work."
"I'll find out soon enough." Jayden smiled.
(Set change)
Cadence is eating breakfast with her family. "I feel like I want to change my life. I wanna do something different." She said.
"You can be different tomorrow. The caters are coming at 12 and you got plenty of guests coming at 8 o'clock for your Christmas Eve party!" Emily exclaimed.
"I don't mean the party, mom. I mean my life." Cadence crossed her arms.
"Well then, what is wrong with your life?" David asked.
"Nothing! It's just, I'm twelve, I feel like something special is supposed to happen." Cadence replied.
"And being twelve years old isn't enough?" Emily asked.
(Set change)
Jayden and Scott walk to town. "Are you sure you want to do this today Jayden? I mean, it's your birthday! Wouldn't you want to do something special?" Scott asked.
"Well friends with no place to live don't have time for special." Jayden laughed.
"Seriously, what is your problem?" Scott asked.
"I don't know! Ever since I woke up this morning, I just felt like something horrible was gonna happen." Jayden replied.
"It's your birthday, nothing horrible is gonna happen." Scott assured him.
Liana enters the stage, following Jayden and Scott. "Like I said, it's just a feeling." Jayden sighed.
Liana then approaches the duo. "Oh my gosh, you are so ready! I can just- oh no, but I won't. Although I... No. How weird would that be right? Ok, good luck!" She quickly walked away.
Jayden and Scott looked at each other in confusion. "Who was that?! I swear if she was gonna do something to us-"
"Never mind." Jayden intruded and they exited the stage.
Cadence and Lorraine are seen entering the stage. "It's just a feeling, I can't really describe it." Cadence said to Lorraine.
"So what do you think it is? What's gonna happen?" Lorraine asked.
"I really don't know." Cadence replied.
"If you don't know, how do you know it hasn't happened already?" Lorraine asked again.
"Because it's going to be something life-changing?" Cadence guessed.
"Like getting a bad pedicure?"
"What?!"
"Because that IS life-changing."
Duncan walks over to Cadence. "It's extraordinary. You definitely are someone who has the powers to..."
"Do I know you?" Cadence cut in.
Duncan clears his throat without replying. Looking at Duncan weirdly, Lorraine and Cadence quickly walk away. "Well, you go do your stuff, I'll meet you back in 20." Cadence said to Lorraine.
Liana and Duncan appear at the far end of the stage. "Way to play it cool." Duncan scolded Liana.
"Well I'm sorry. After all these years of you telling me not to interfere..."
"It's not interference, it's destiny for the two to meet." Duncan snapped.
A light is focused on a shop and Jayden walks into it. "New job here I come." Jayden muttered to himself. Cadence so happens to be walking down the street of the shop.
A spark appears from Duncan's hand and it travels to the shop, putting a sale sign to attract Cadence's attention. Cadence notices it but continues walking. "I'll try." Liana said and another sign appears on the shop. Still, Cadence's doesn't enter the shop.
"Kazaam!" Duncan shouts and finally, one more sign appears on the window of the shop.
"What?" Cadence said to herself, looking at all the signs. She then finally stepped into the shop.
"Subtle." Liana said to Duncan.
"Well SHE CAN BE A LITTLE... She can be a little stubborn." Duncan stated.
"You really raised your voice at me there." Liana rolled her eyes.
"I'm sorry. It's just you get under..." Duncan groaned in frustration.
(Set change)
"Wow, this store is bigger than I thought!" Jayden exclaimed. "There are thousands of clothes here, must have a really good business here."
"Maybe I'll be able to find a party dress here for my birthday later?" Cadence wondered to herself as she looked around.
Jayden walked around, looking for an assistant or the manager. "Um, excuse me." He approached a staff.
"Oh why hello, you must be the new kid, starting work today, am I right?" The store assistant turned around. "You're Jayden, right? I'm Daniel, I'm assigned to be your supervisor. You know, just to get you used to the store."
"Pleased... To meet you, Daniel. So, where do I begin?" Jayden asked.
"Don't take it personally, I have never seen a kid of your age working. It was a surprise to find out." Daniel said.
"It's fine." Jayden assured.
"While Jayden is introduced to his new job, Cadence passes by Jayden numerous times but the duo don't notice each other."
Cadence tries out a dress as she looks at herself while Jayden is carrying a bundle of clothes that blocks his vision. As he walks, he accidentally bumps into Cadence, dropping all the clothes.
"Sorry, here, I'll grab it." Jayden and Cadence say at the same time as they reach down to pick up the clothes. When they meet face to face, they screamed. "AHHHHHH!!!!!"
"Yes! Yes!" Cadence squealed in excitement.
"What's going on?" Jayden asked, trying to step away from Cadence.
"This is it, this it it! I knew something was gonna happen today! " Cadence shouted.
"Why do you look like me?!" Jayden asked.
"I don't know, but isn't it cool?!" Cadence asked.
"NO!" Jayden yelled.
"It's like, we're twins!" Cadence said at they both gasped. "What if we are twins? Maybe we're brother and sister-"
"Stay away from me. We're not siblings." Jayden turns around.
"Why not? We could be." Cadence argued. "Maybe we were adopted at birth. I was adopted at birth, were you? Of course you were, our mother wouldn't have just given up just one! Oh my but what if she did..."
"What are you talking about?!" Jayden snapped.
"I knew something was gonna happen today, but I couldn't have guessed!" Cadence said in excitement. "But, I would have been wrong. Though I am usually a very good guesser. It's your birthday today, isn't it?"
"How did you know that?" Jayden asked.
"It's my birthday too. See?! We ARE twins!" Cadence squealed.
"Wait. Oh, this, is, not, happening! This is too weird!" Jayden runs out of the shop.
"Wait!" Cadence runs after him. "Stop, stop!"
"As soon as Cadence holds Jayden's hand, their magic is released. Their magic, ice and snow begins to combine and the streets are beginning to fill up with more and more snow."
The lights are focused back on Liana and Duncan. "Finally, after all these years..." Liana said.
"What's done is done, there's no turning back now." Duncan stated.
"And Avonlea? Do you think they know what we did?" Liana asked.
"Mm-hmm. They know." Duncan replied.
(Set change)
"Guinevere is researching when suddenly, her globe begins to form the shape of two halves of a snowflake, which then combines together. Upon realising..."
"Tristan? Tristan! Tristan!" Guinevere cries in panic.
Tristan comes running. "W-What is it? What's wrong?" He asked.
"Aria and Aron, they're alive!" Guinevere replied.
"Guinevere, please, no. Not after all these years, please don't start this again." Tristan said firmly.
"Tristan, I felt it in my soul! Look..." She pointed to the snowflake. "They're alive, and they're together. Can you believe it?"
"If that's true-"
"It's true!" Guinevere cut in.
"Then we can assume we're not the only ones who know." Tristan continued. "They're in danger. We have to find them before..."
"Before the Darkness does." Guinevere said. "I know, we gotta go, we've gotta-"
"No, we can't risk losing you too. I'll go, I'll find them, and I'll being them home." Tristan assured her and walks away.
(Set change)
"Well, well, well... If it isn't the twins of Avonlea... They're still alive?" Marquis said to Miranda.
"Impossible, I thought we had killed them ages ago!" Miranda argued.
"Well apparently we didn't. We need to strike, now. Before the twins bond and understand each other." Marquis ordered.
"Avonlea is already falling apart, but the long lost twins could restore it. We should take action." Miranda nodded.
(Set change)
"Urgh, I can't even believe you'd think I steal this dress! It's not even that cute, but it does fit me like a glove." Cadence pays Daniel in frustration.
"Oh and just so we're clear, you're fired." Daniel points to Jayden.
"What? Great, just great. I got fired on my first day thanks to some psycho girl who looks like me." Jayden grumbles and walks away.
"I'll never walk into this store ever again." Cadence said and she looks for Jayden. "Wait! You're mad at me, I can tell. We're siblings after all."
"Would you please stop saying that?! Ok yes, maybe we're brother and sister and yes, today's my birthday, but, I don't know! This is... Can't be." Jayden snapped.
"Can't be what? You knew something was gonna happen today too?" Cadence asked.
"Yes! But-"
Lorraine comes skipping around to Cadence. "Hey Cadence!" She then notices Jayden. "Ahh! Oh my gosh, he looks exactly like you!"
"I know, isn't it great? I got a twin!" Cadence said.
"That is so cool!" Lorraine giggled. "I want a long lost twin..."
"Well you better hurry, because there's only a few of us left." Jayden crossed his arms. "Can we get out of here?!"
"I'll see you later." Cadence turned to Lorraine. "We've... What's your name again?"
"Jayden!" Jayden replied in frustration.
"Cool name, I like it." Cadence said as Jayden walks away. "Anyway, Jayden and I have a lot of bonding to do, see ya!" Cadence chases after Jayden. "Wait! I can't believe you thought meeting me would be horrible."
"I didn't know I was going to meet you, I thought that-"
"Jayden, my I like the sound of that name." Cadence cut in.
"Will you please, stop it?!" Jayden snapped.
"I don't know why you're so upset. I think it's one of the most amazing things ever... Oh no, didn't your parents tell you you were adopted?" Cadence asked.
"I only ever had a mom... And yes, she did tell me. She passed away, 3 months ago." Jayden replied.
"I'm so sorry." Cadence said as she held Jayden's hand. Instantly, ice appeared below them followed by snow. "I don't get it, I have friends who are twins and nothing happens when their hands touch. I know quite a lot of twins so, I don't think this is a twin thing."
"Of course it's not a twin thing, you think all twins have magical powers?!" Jayden said firmly. "Now what do we do with all this ice and snow that appeared out of nowhere?!"
"No, I'm saying they don't! Sheesh, were you born first?!" Cadence asked. "Because you can be really, really bossy."
"ME?!" Jayden exclaimed.
(Set change)
"Come on! My parents, have got, to see you!" Cadence dragged Jayden to her house.
"Wow, this is your house?!" Jayden admired in awe.
"Um... Yes? Mom? Dad?" Cadence began shouting.
Jayden quickly kept her quiet. "No, Cadence! I don't want to meet your parents yet! Please, can we just figure out what's going on first?"
"What's there to figure out?" Cadence asked. "Ok, ok, fine. Let's go somewhere more private?"
"When Cadence opened the door, it didn't lead to her room, it led to..."
Cadence gasped. "This is not my room."
"Well done on pointing out the obvious." Jayden said sarcastically.
"This may sound crazy and spooky, but I feel like, I've been here before." Cadence said. "How is that possible?"
"You've been here in your dreams many times before, Cadence." Liana's voice echoed as Jayden and Cadence went to the voice.
Liana and Duncan stood before them. "Yep, you have the gift of sight, you surely do. And then there's your brother, Jayden. Oh I can't stand it, come here!" Liana walked forward to hug a surprised Jayden.
"You know her?" Cadence asked and Jayden quickly shook his head.
"Just as you know me Cadence. Never seen but always there, silently watching over you making sure no harm comes your way." Duncan stated.
"Though if I had my way, you'd never skin a knee, but you know you-know-who here was always, 'keep your distance, don't interfere, keep quiet you're giving me a headache-" Liana pointed to Duncan.
"Yes, much like you are right now." Duncan cut in.
"Wait, who are you?" Jayden asked.
"I am Duncan and this is Liana. We are your protectors and your father's humble servants." Duncan replied.
"Our father?" Jayden asked. "Is he here?" Cadence asked.
"You had to go and bring that up!" Liana scolded. "No. Um, he's... Well, he died the day you were born. There I said it."
"It was your father who asked us to watch out for you." Duncan explained.
"But where are we?" Cadence asked.
"Why don't you ask your brother?" Duncan suggested.
Cadence turned to Jayden, waiting for an answer. "No way... We're in.... Avonlea?!" Jayden blurted out.
"Jayden has the gift of knowing." Duncan whispered.
"But, I thought it doesn't really exist." Jayden said.
"Oh the world has infinite dimensions. Well nine, maybe nine and a half. But none is more real that another. This is ours and yours." Liana stated.
"Wait, you called ourselves your protectors, what are you protecting us from?" Cadence asked.
"Just go ahead and tell them." Liana said softly.
"The Darkness." Duncan whispered.
"Huh?" Cadence and Jayden asked in unison.
"The Darkness." Duncan said louder.
"What are you guys talking about?! Wait, what happened to our mother?" Cadence asked.
"Short attention span." Liana joked.
"Yes, I'm beginning to notice." Duncan giggled. "Your mother is very much alive."
"That's great, did you hear that Jayden?" Cadence turned to Jayden.
"For twelve-"
"Yeah, I know." Duncan intruded Liana's words. "For twelve long years, we have waited for this day. The future of Avonlea is in your hands."
"Our hands? Why is it in our hands?" Cadence asked. "Like, of course we will do anything we can to help-"
"No." Jayden cut in. "No way, forget it. I don't want any part of this."
"Jayden..." Liana said.
"No! I know how the story ends, remember?! I have never ever forgotten a single thing that happens in my mind when I think of Avonlea. The ending... Isn't good at all." Jayden walked away.
"Jayden please." Liana said. "Wait!" Cadence shouted. "Um... Don't take it personally, running off is kinda his thing. You two stay here, I'll bring him back." Cadence ran.
"So sweet." Liana smiled. "I wonder if we should have mentioned that they were marked for death."
"Why would we tell them that?" Duncan asked.
(Set change)
"Jayden what do you think you're doing?! There's a magical fairytale life in my room and you're walking away?!" Cadence asked.
"There is nothing magical or fairytale about that place." Jayden said firmly.
"You really have got to go out more cause that is as magical and fairytale as it gets!" Cadence exclaimed.
"Are you saying that I don't go out much?!" Jayden asked.
"I swear, you're the only person in the whole world who can make finding a twin and discovering magical powers is negative." Cadence crossed her arms.
"I'm sorry but knowing that it's real! Seeing it... I never imagined this is what it looked like!"Jayden shouted.
"Jayden, come on." Cadence chuckled.
"If everything that I imagined about Avonlea is true, then our father didn't just die the day we were born. He was killed, trying to protect us." Jayden said seriously.
"Us? Who would want to harm us?" Cadence asked.
"What Liana and Duncan said, the Darkness." Jayden replied.
"Oh come on, now you're gonna tell me that this, 'Darkness', lame name by the way is out to get us." Cadence said. "Guess what, I haven't been afraid of the dark since like... I don't know, pretty young. Anyway Jayden, if people are in trouble, if our mother needs us-"
"I already have-.....had, a mother." Jayden cut in.
"I didn't say you didn't." Cadence consoled him but he just wanted to run far, far away. "Jayden, you can't just walk away from me, we just found each other. We're brother and sister."
Jayden sighed. "We're freaky magical brother and sister.... Ok, you're right. Whatever this is, we're in this together."
"That's the spirit." Cadence smiled.
"As soon as Cadence and Jayden left, the Darkness began to travel around Cadence's house, searching for the twins..."
"Curse those twins! Where are they?!" Marquis yelled in anger.
"Are you sure you got the place right?" Miranda asked.
"Of course!" Marquis snapped.
(Set change)
"Hold up, I gotta call my mom first, she must be wondering where I am." Cadence dialled and called. "Mom? You are not gonna believe this-"
"No, wait!" Jayden silenced her.
"What's the matter with you?" Cadence asked.
"This is just isn't the kind of thing you would blurt out to your mother!"
"It's ok, she's a really cool mother."
"Oh yeah? Take this for an example. Hi mom, I just met my twin, and we're in search of our biological mother who lives in a magical dimension, and something called the Darkness is out to get us. No mom in the world is THAT cool."
"Fine, sorry. Uh, mom? Oh I meant, you're not gonna believe the dress I found for the party tonight. Plus, I think I'm gonna being a new friend with me tonight. His name is Jayden, I think you'll really like him too. All right, bye!"
"Cadence, what the heck?!"
"What? You can't not come to your own sister's birthday party."
"Urgh, you're impossible."
"Well, being impossible is one of my best qualities."
"Let's just go now, ok? We'll discuss more in there."
Cadence and Jayden walk into a fast food restaurant. "Wait, Aria? Why did you give me the name of Aria?" Cadence asked after Jayden explains.
"Don't ask. I got stuck with the name Aron. Ask our mother if you have to." Jayden replied.
"Have you ever thought it was weird thinking about a magical land and twins?" Cadence asked.
"It just came to my mind every time." Jayden said.
"Everyone wishes for something magical to happen. I always wanted to be a princess." Cadence smiled.
"Um, you kinda are." Jayden said. "But Avonlea wasn't always that wonderful. When we were born, they were in a mist of a horrible war with the Darkness. It destroyed everything in its path, devouring the light and stealing the souls of those unlucky enough to fall into its grasp. Only our parents' combined powers were able to keep it at bay, until we came along. As our mother brought us into the world, our father, the leader of the forces of light, was forced to fight alone. But the Darkness now had the advantage it needed. His only thought was to save us. At that moment, he gave us every drop of power he had left. Then the Darkness came for us, but when it tried to touch us, something happened."
"Wow, way to go us! Props for being one day old." Cadence cheered.
"I don't know exactly what happened after that though. Nothing came to my mind." Jayden sighed.
"Hold up, you said, the forces of light? Does that mean our powers is light? Then why, when we touched, snow and ice came out of nowhere?!" Cadence asked.
"Our powers is ice and snow. Well, the grand majority. Our parents had the powers of light but because we were born on Christmas Eve, I guess the magic of Christmas, ice and snow combined into our powers." Jayden explained.
"This is so cool!" Cadence squealed.
"Oh! Scott is here." Jayden waved as Scott approached them.
"Well Jayden, I told you to do something special for your birthday, but not get out and get a twin." Scott scoffed.
"Scott here, is my best friend, we're like brothers." Jayden grabbed his arm.
"'Like' being the operative word." Scott said.
"Hey, do you wanna crash her party tonight?" Jayden suggested.
"Excuse me?!" Cadence asked.
"You're the one who sent the invitation." Jayden laughed.
"You're horrible!" Cadence exclaimed.
"Being horrible is one of my best qualities." "It's his best quality." Jayden and Scott said at the same time and giggled.
"Well, I'll leave you two for some twin time." Scott excused himself.
"Wow, check out that Christmas tree." Cadence pointed. "Seriously, can't people decorate it a little?! It's Christmas Eve already!"
"Well then, why don't you, decorate it?" Jayden asked.
Jayden and Cadence looked at each other. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" They said at the same time. They both giggled, and used their magic on the tree. Instantly, the Christmas tree was covered in decorative snowflakes, blue lights, the lot.
"As Cadence and Jayden bond and use their powers more frequently, Liana and Duncan keep watch over them silently. Unaware to all them, the Darkness is spreading everywhere, looking for the twins."
"Apparently they don't understand the gravity of the situation." Duncan grumbled, looking at the twins who are having fun.
"Oh would you give it a break? They have been separated their whole lives." Liana said. "Even the prophecy says, the two must learn to act as one."
"Yes! But those two are tap dancing on my last nerve." Duncan snapped.
"You don't even know squat about tap dancing." Liana crossed her arms.
(Set change)
"This is your house?" Cadence asked.
"Um... Yeah? I know, it doesn't look as grand as yours but, make yourself at home!" Jayden replied.
Jayden and Cadence enter the house while Liana and Duncan arrive. Strong winds and lights begin to flicker. "Duncan, what's happening?" Liana asked.
"It's here!" Duncan gasped.
"It's here?" Liana asked again.
"No, not here! It's here! Like in a general sense!" Duncan replied.
"I don't follow." Liana said.
"What aren't you following? It's here!"
"Oh that's scary, what are we going to do about that?!"
"I'm thinking of a plan!"
"..... Have you thought of one?"
"NO!"
Duncan and Liana stepped away. "You know, I don't suppose you know how to find the door to Avonlea and start to find out mother?" Cadence asked.
"Well, I guess we need to find a portal? There's one in your room already!" Jayden replied.
"The Darkness has finally found the twins and begins to attack them..."
One by one, the lights went out, in an exploding sort of way. "AHHHHH!!!! Jayden!" Cadence screamed.
Marquis and Miranda appeared, directing the Darkness towards the twins.
Jayden gasped and quickly grabbed Cadence. "Come on, this way!"
"Jayden!" Cadence screamed again. "AHHH! Stay away from me! Whatever, this thing is!"
Cadence's foot got caught by the Darkness. But as soon as Jayden touched her hand, their magic was once again released, freeing Cadence. In panic, the Darkness was gone.
"W-What was that?!" Cadence gasped for breath.
"What do you think that was?!" Jayden snapped.
"Hey you were the one running first for the exit!" Cadence shouted.
"Excuse me?! If it wasn't for me-"
"Jayden, Cadence!" Liana and Duncan reappeared. "This is not the time for fighting, you should consider yourselves lucky to be alive. Even money said you wouldn't be able to make it."
"Lucky to be a.... Lucky to be...." Cadence said. "No! This was supposed to be fun! You know, magic and sparkles, castles and unicorns!"
"Huh, unicorns." Duncan chuckled.
"And now we're lucky enough to be alive?! So not what I signed up for." Cadence continued.
"You're her protector." Liana giggled at Duncan.
"Where were you, Mr. and Miss No-Help-At-All?" Cadence snapped. "You're the ones who started this, you were supposed to protect us."
"Our powers are minimal in your dimension, our apologies." Duncan sighed. "God forbid we get any credit for the last 12 years, you're welcome!"
"Hey, but better late then never, right?!" Jayden argued. "At least you showed up when you did."
"You actually defeated the Darkness, temporarily to be precise, on your own." Liana explained.
"I did? I mean, we?" Jayden asked and Liana nodded. "Wow."
"You truly are powerful just like your father, there can be no doubt when confronting the Darkness next time." Duncan added.
"Next time? No way, forget it. There isn't going to be a next time, I'm done." Cadence stated.
"I'm afraid there can be no turning back now." Duncan said.
"Oh yeah? Watch me. I've got a birthday party in an hour, and I don't plan on missing it." Cadence said firmly. "This one, or the next 70 or so of them, either."
"Cadence, I know you're upset, but you have to remember, you confronted the Darkness before and you won." Liana explained.
"You mean when I was a baby?! I was only one day old! All I probably did was scream and cry! You can have your magic back, I'm going home!" Cadence stomped away.
"Cadence!" Jayden chased after her.
Liana sighed. "Do we have a plan B?"
"We're way past plan B, it's more like E now." Duncan replied.
"HEY! What ever happened to 'we're brother and sister, we're in this together'?" Jayden shouted.
"We'll always be siblings. Jayden, please." Cadence said. "I can't believe you think staying here, doing this, fighting this thing is a good idea."
"No, but meeting our mother is. Meeting her, helping her. I thought you were the one that wanted that?" Jayden asked.
"We can't do this!" Cadence shouted.
"Yes we can, of course we can!" Jayden protested. "If we do it together. Don't you feel it when we put our hands together? Our magic, we're invincible!"
"No we aren't. That's how I feel when I'm at home, with my parents, not here. Don't you get it? Until they showed up nothing bad has ever happened to me!"
"Oh I get it. Funny thing is, this still isn't the worst thing that has ever happened to me."
"I'm sorry, but it's not my fault."
"I'm not trying to replace my mom!"
"I know... But I wanna go home, now."
"Cadence! I thought running away was my thing!"
"I guess it's something else we have in common. Be careful." And Cadence left.
Cadence ran straight back to her house and tried to catch her breath. "Cadence, where have you been?! I know it's your birthday but showing up 20 minutes before a party in your honour is rude, disrespectful-"
"Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry! You're perfect parents, and I don't deserve you! Thank you for never letting anything bad happen to me!" Cadence said quickly and ran to her room.
"Um... You're welcome?" David stood there, dumbfounded.
"What was that all about?" Emily asked.
"I have no idea. I don't know if I was just played, or that's just one of those moments that makes parenting all worthwhile." David replied.
"Oh.... You've just been played." Emily laughed.
Meanwhile, Miranda and Marquis appeared to be falling out from the sky. They breathed heavily in disbelief of what just happened.
"They're stronger..." Miranda hissed.
"Only because they're together." Marquis reminded.

Cadence's birthday party already began. LED lights, Christmas trees, music, the lot. Cadence is seen wearing a tiara and her birthday dress. "Oh, finally! Our birthday princess has arrived." Lorraine walked through the crowd.
"I'm not a princess, why does everyone keep calling me that?!" Cadence asked.
"Um, because you're dressed like a princess." Lorraine replied.
"Oh, right, sorry." Cadence said.
"So, where is the twin? I've been dying to know all the details."
"I don't even think he's coming."
"What?! Why?!"
"Well, turns out we didn't have much in common."
"You two seemed totally alike."
"I don't know, maybe. Only on the outside I guess."
"Oh I'm sorry. What, is he, like, kind of vapid and shallow?"
"No, he's nothing like that."
"Meanwhile..."
Jayden is poking through is birthday cake. "You finished?" Scott asked.
"What? Oh, yeah." Jayden sighed. "It was great but I'm really not that hungry, thanks."
"So, should I be putting on my party clothes and go to your twin sister's house?"
"I think... That party is gonna have to happen without us. Well, without me at least."
"Why, what's the matter? No love in twin town?"
"I don't love her!"
"Gosh, I meant no successful, getting to know each other?"
"Something like that."
"What happened? When I saw you two this afternoon, you looked like you were best friends, like you've known each other your whole lives. Couldn't been that bad."
"I don't know. She's.... Never mind, you would so not understand."
"Jayden, I've been your friend for ages, I will understand."
"I don't know why but, I thought I could trust her, I thought we were in this together and she'd be there for me."
"That's an awful lot to expect from a six hour relationship."
"But, no such luck. The only person I could ever count on is ME."
"Wow. You know that's kind of a sucker punch for someone that just got you a birthday cake..."
".... It's a hard knock life?"
"Whatever, I'm outta here."
"Scott!" Jayden furiously stomped away. "What does he know? It is too always up to me. I've got all the forces of Darkness out to get me, my protectors are nowhere to be found, my so-called twin sister is dancing the night away, I am not going to just sit here! Wait, I don't have to. We've opened the door to Avonlea once, we, I mean, I can do it again. There is no way that the only portal to there is through Cadence'e room! All right, I just have to believe in myself and trust my powers. Believe in myself and trust my powers, ok. You can do this, just focus! Trust my powers trust my powers. Of course eight hours ago, I didn't even know I have powers! All right, to Avonlea."
Scott sat down and muttered. "Jayden?" He raised his voice. "I'm sorry. I'm just being my usual selfish self. Why shouldn't you be excited about finding your sister? Even one you never knew you had. I'm sorry it didn't go the way you wanted it to, but I wouldn't give up. I think you should talk to her, I really think we should go to that party too. It'll be fun, we can mock people mercilessly, come on, you know you love doing that. Jayden?" Scott looked around but Jayden was nowhere to be found. "Oh you did not go to that party without me. You're just lucky it's your birthday, Jayden!"

"Yes! Yes! I knew I could do it- Wait, where am I? This isn't Avonlea!" Jayden walked around but he fell. "Oof!"
"Who's there?!" A panic stricken voice echoed, Guinevere's.
"I... Uh, gotta go!" Jayden got back up and ran.
"Stay where you are!" Guinevere shouted, tripping Jayden with her magic, causing him to fall down again. Jayden backed away in fear. "W-W-Who are you? I didn't mean to alarm you! Look, I can go back right now, don't kill me!"
Guinevere went closer to Jayden. "Aron?" She blurted out.
"Um, I kinda go by Jayden now but... Yeah, it's me." Jayden replied softly. "Hi. Mom?"
"You're alive, I can't believe it. Everyday, for 12 years, I never stopped, I always hoped." Guinevere cried as she hugged Jayden tightly. "How did you finally find me, how did you get here?"
"I uh... The usual way, ma-magic." Jayden stammered.
"Oh Aron, I'm so sorry." Guinevere said.
"Don't be, you couldn't have known, you did what you had to do. Avonlea wouldn't exist without you."
"How could you possibly know that? But you do, don't you? You have the gift. Oh I can't believe you're really here." Guinevere hugged Jayden again. "Where's Aria? Is she all right?"
"She's fine. She.... She's with her family."
"I understand."
"But when you do meet her, she kinda prefers that people call her Cadence."
"And your family?"
"Uh..."
"Well, you're obviously a young man who had a great deal of love in his life. And for that, I'm truly grateful."
"I had a wonderful mother, and Liana and Duncan, watching over me."
"Liana and Duncan? I should have known."
"They're good guys right?"
"The best, they were right to take you away. Avonlea wouldn't have been a very safe place for two such young and powerful twins. But you're here now, that's all that matters, together, we can face anything."
"Anything?"
"The Darkness, seems to be growing stronger everyday, but you have returned, and the light will be restored to every corner of the land."
"I don't know, can ice and snow restore the light? Everyone's counting on me?"
"You and your sister. But don't worry, you have the power."
(Set change)
Cadence sits on the bench, all alone, staring at space. Emily comes over. "Lorraine talked to me, you really had quite a day. This boy-"
"Jayden." Cadence cut in.
"Jayden. Are you sure he's your brother and not somebody who looks a lot like you?"
"Mom, we're brother and sister, trust me."
"Well, I think that's wonderful."
"So do I."
"So, why isn't he here?"
"It's complicated. There's.... Well.... He wanted to find our birth mother, and I'm happy here."
"Cadence, is this about me? Are you afraid of hurting my feelings?"
"No mom."
"Good, because you have no reason to fell that way. If there's anything that I know, love is infinite. You can always make more when you need it. And just because you wanna give it to someone else doesn't mean you have to take any from anyone."
"Mom, I do NOT love him!"
"Oh honey... What made you think of that? Don't worry, let's get back to the party with the princess."
"There's uh... More."
"More than just a twin brother?"
"Well... Jayden and I aren't from here. And I don't mean here-here. I mean, this dimension, here."
"Come again?"
"We're actually from this whole other...Well, I don't actually know what it is. But when we were born, this war was going on and our father was killed. but it's found us, and it won't stop until it destroys everything, and sucks all the life out of the universe!"
"Is that it?"
"Did I mention we have magical powers?"
"Oh Cadence, where is all this coming from? Why, I haven't heard you talk like this for years."
"Did I tell you this before?"
"You used to wake up screaming, just from the most frightening dreams, and it was always about this Darkness coming to get you."
Their conversation was interrupted by screams and shouts. Lights went out. "Oh no, not here." Cadence got up and ran.
"Stop! We've got to get you out of here." Liana ran towards her.
"But everybody, they're in danger!" Cadence protested.
"No, trust us, it's you the Darkness wants." Duncan came running.
"We gotta get you to Avonlea, it's the only place you might be safe." Liana insisted.
"I've opened up a portal in your bedroom. Go!" Duncan ordered but ran in the opposite direction.
"Where are you going?!" Liana asked.
"GO! I'll try to fend it off as long as I can." Duncan replied.
"But-" "Stay safe and be strong!" Liana grabbed Cadence.
"AHHHHH!!!!!" Duncan's blood curling screams echoed.
"Duncan!" Liana shouted. "Never mind, go! Cadence, go, go to Avonlea! Hurry!"
"But-"
"Just go!" Liana yelled, seconds before the Darkness surrounded her and she disappeared.
"Leave me alone!" Cadence backed away in fear. "I don't want my powers, I don't want to be a princess!"
"Cadence!" Emily came running.
"No, mom! Don't come here!" Cadence screamed.
Emily dashed forward, the Darkness immediately disappeared.
"Mom, how did you do that?!" Cadence asked. "You have magical powers too?!"
"Not that I know of, I can't believe everything you said is true!" Emily replied.
"What the heck is going on here?!" David asked, panting. "Please someone tell me what's going on."
"Not now. Right now, there's something I have to do. Nobody messes with my family and friends then gets away with it, I'm going to Avonlea." Cadence said firmly and went through the portal.
(Set change)
"Guinevere, you're here!" Tristan approached Jayden and Guinevere. "I... I've found- Wait, who's this?"
"Aron, this is your uncle, Tristan." Guinevere introduced.
"Oh, my boy." Tristan gave him a hug. "Anyway, back to the point, the Darkness, it has overcome the north gate and-"
"It's here?" Jayden cut in.
"Yes, and now that you're here, I can be sure that I didn't find the wrong girl." Tristan smiled. "I've found Aria-"
"Aria? Where is she?" Guinevere asked.
"I'm just about to bring her here but I couldn't find you just now!" Tristan replied.
"Cadence is at her birthday party, she's sure to stand out so yeah, she'll be easy to spot." Jayden added.
"You don't have to find me now that I'm here." Cadence walked up.
"Cadence!" Jayden exclaimed. "A-Aria?" Guinevere stammered. "There she is!" Tristan blurted out.
Guinevere rushed to Cadence and gave her a tight hug. "Good, now that you two are here, the Darkness will not stand a chance." Tristan said to Jayden.
"Wait, how far are we from the north gate?" Jayden asked.
"We're at the south gate, silly. We have some time." Tristan replied.
"What do we do then?! What do we do?! Liana and Duncan have been.... Basically, eaten by the Darkness!" Cadence shouted.
"Wait, what?!" Jayden asked. "Mom, uncle, how do we save them?!"
"Your combined powers will do the job." Guinevere assured.
"I could have literally been killed at the party, there is no way my powers can do anything!" Cadence protested.
"You have your brother now." Tristan said.
"And what good will THAT bring?" A new voice echoed.
"Oh no..." Guinevere gasped.
Miranda and Marquis walked forward. "Soon, the light of Avonlea will go out!" Marquis laughed.
"That's not true." Jayden said.
"Oh really? Just because the long lost twins are back?" Miranda challenged.
"Sadly, you have nothing left." Marquis pointed to Guinevere.
"That's not true, she has us." Cadence spoke up.
"Oh why yes, I stand corrected. Sadly, they are all you have left." Marquis stated.
"Are you asking to be slapped?" Cadence snapped.
"You'll never win, the light will always find a way." Guinevere said.
"Don't think so." Miranda smirked as she and Marquis disappeared.
"Hey! Come out here, you cowards!" Jayden shouted.
One by one, lights went out, flickering, exploding. Cadence and Jayden screamed. Tristan and Guinevere did their best to use their light against the Darkness who was begin to surround everywhere. "Tristan!" Guinevere shouted as the Darkness consumed him.
"Do something Jayden!" Cadence screamed.
"I'm thinking of something?! How do we use these powers?! They seem to be only coming at certain times!" Jayden backfired.
Marquis and Miranda reappeared, taking Guinevere away. "MOM!" The twins shouted.
"Oh.... Bye bye mommy." Miranda smirked.
"You're next." Marquis laughed.
Cadence leaped and gave a kick at Marquis, leaving Jayden and Miranda stunned. "What kind of a princess does that?" Jayden asked.
"Martial arts comes in handy sometimes." Cadence giggled.
Marquis and Miranda hid in the Darkness once again. "Give me your hands!" Jayden commanded. Evil laughter travelled everywhere. "Think about the light, ice, snow, whatever, as long as it's about our powers! Stay focused!" Jayden shouted.
"I'm focused!" Cadence said.
"We can do this, we did it before!"
"I know but how?!"
"Concentrate!"
The Darkness passed by, just inches above their heads. Cadence screamed again. "I'm sorry I ran out on you!"
"I'm sorry I let you down!" Jayden stated.
"You didn't let me down!" Cadence cut in.
"Your powers are no match for mine..." An eerie voice came from the Darkness.
"Think light think light think light!" Jayden said quickly.
"I'm trying!" Cadence said. "It can't be that hard! My mom, my mom... She didn't think about the light when she saved me... She thought about me, she thought about love!"
"The opposite of darkness isn't about light or ice or snow..." Jayden started, confused. "It's love!" Cadence and Jayden said in unison.
"Our father's love saved us when we were born." Cadence said.
"Think about love!" Jayden exclaimed.
"Only about love!" Cadence nodded and blue-yellow-ish light began to surround them, a combination of ice and light. "Argh!" The voice from the Darkness blurted out.
"Yes, that's it!" Jayden stated.
"No, love is infinite, we can make as much as we want!" Cadence yelled. "Quick, who do you love the most in the world?"
"M-My- My mom." Jayden replied, nearly crying. Their light was released once again, travelling straight to the Darkness.
"My parents." Cadence said.
"Scott!" "Lorraine!" Jayden and Cadence said at the same time. Each time they mentioned a person, the light fought against the Darkness.
"My friends, my grandparents!" Cadence added. "Guinevere, Tristan!" Jayden shouted. "Liana, Duncan!" Cadence said.
".... My sister." Jayden stated.
".... My brother." Cadence smiled.
"NOOOOO!!!!" And, the Darkness was gone. Marquis and Miranda were seen lying on the floor, motionless.
Cadence and Jayden hugged each other. "Wait, that's it?" Jayden asked.
"Why wouldn't it be?!" Cadence asked.
"Then where is everyone?!" Jayden asked.
He spoke too soon. Tristan and Guinevere reappeared. "Mom!" "Uncle Tristan!" Jayden and Cadence exclaimed.
"I knew you two had the power." Guinevere hugged them both.
"Ahhhh!!!!!" Liana and Duncan fell down from high above but they quickly got up, uninjured. "Well, you certainly took your sweet time about it!" Duncan grumbled.
"He means thank you." Liana said.
"Please don't tell people what I mean, if I had meant thank you, I would have said thank you." Duncan turned to her.
"I think having his soul sucked out of him had left someone a little bit cranky." Liana laughed.
(Set change)
"Cake?" Cadence handed Jayden a plate.
"Don't mind if I do." Jayden smiled.
Everyone gathered at a big table. "We are not staying in this dimension." Duncan argued with Liana.
"Oh come on, this dimension has chicken wings." Liana chuckled.
"We are NOT staying here!" Duncan said firmly.
"Chicken wings are only ten cents a wing on Wednesdays." Liana said.
"Can I just have my cake?!" Duncan snapped.
"Surprised?" Emily asked Guinevere. "Oh yes, but I knew our little girl was always special."
"Well you're about to find out how special she is." Guinevere smiled.
"What are you smiling about?" Jayden nudged Cadence.
"I knew something was gonna happen today." Cadence grinned.
"Happy birthday." They said in unison.
The audience clapped as one by one, the cast gathered on the stage, signalling the end of the play. Each one of them sang: (A/N: I do not own this song!)
Have you ever seen anything
Like the sparkle of Christmas Eve?
It's so beautiful when you believe
All your ones you love gather 'round
Snow so glittery on the ground
Santa's coming any minute now
And I'll meet you on a star
We'll dream the night away
It's Christmas magic
Soaring through your heart
On a one horse open sleigh
It's Christmas magic
Sweet anticipating
Smiles decorating, you and me (you and me)
Nowhere I'd rather be
Have you ever seen a fashion trend
Like the whole world in green and red?
Little houses made of gingerbread
Someone knows you've been bad or good
Darlin' your wishes are understood
Reindeers fly over your neighbourhood
And I'll meet you on a star
We'll dream the night away
It's Christmas magic
Soaring through your heart
On a one horse open sleigh
It's Christmas magic
Sweet anticipating
Smiles decorating, you and me (you and me)
Nowhere I'd rather be
Tonight, we'll ride these wings of ours
Hold on to me you'll feel the power
Oh, tonight we'll fly away in the hours
Just close your eyes and feel the power
And I'll meet you on a star (yeah)
We'll dream the night away (night away)
It's Christmas magic (oh, yeah yeah yeah)
Soaring through your heart
On a one horse open sleigh (open sleigh)
It's Christmas magic (oh, yeah yeah yeah)
Sweet anticipating
Smiles decorating, you and me (yeah, you and me, you and me)
Nowhere I'd rather be
Tonight
Nowhere I'd rather be
Tonight
Nowhere I'd rather be
Tonight
As soon as the cast finished singing, they bowed down and the audience clapped. However, Pitch stood up from his seat, yelling "THAT'S IT!", and chaos spread around.
