Chapter 48: Announcement

Elijah's POV

We reached school, in the nick of time. I don't exactly know who was last and I didn't care. I headed straight to my class. Someone grabbed my shoulder, panting. It was Shade. I chuckled and headed to class with him.

Jessica was inside and she waved a hi to us. I sat beside her and Shade sat on my right. "Say, you two boys look like you just ran a marathon! You're soaking in sweat." Jessica laughed.

"We did, exercising is good." Shade said proudly.

"We just raced ourselves to school just now, no big deal." I crossed my arms.

"Oh yeah sure it's good, but you won't feel comfortable with that sweat in school." Jessica smiled.

I ignored whatever she said and opened my book. During the run to school, I suddenly remembered that I forgot to do my maths homework, AGAIN. What else is new.

"Someone didn't do their homework." Shade giggled. "Lazy bones."

"I FORGOT. Not I was lazy to do it." I snapped.

"Oh yeah sure you 'forgot', like the last couple of times." Jessica looked at my book.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes.

"May I present, the empty book!" Jessica lifted up my exercise book and burst out laughing.

"You do know that you nearly failed your maths exam last time right?" Shade asked.

"Yeah so?" I asked.

"You're ridiculously ridiculous." Shade shrugged.

I playfully pushed him and started with my work. Calculating was the least of my problems. Or unless if I let anger and frustration take over me.

*Time skip*

It was recess and I went out of class with Eliza. We reached the canteen and the rest were already there. "Took you long enough." Kristine crossed her arms.

"Heck, teacher let us out late." I said.

"No matter, you're still late." Jessica joked.

"Not our fault." I glared at her.

I took a couple of biscuits from Eliza's food container and munched on it. "Get your own!" Eliza snapped.

"Well as you can see, I don't have my own!" I stuffed the biscuits into my mouth and showed her my empty hands.

She rolled her eyes at me. I walked over to Harold and Henry. They were writing and reading about something. "What are you doing?" I blurted out.

"Dragons." They replied in unison.

"Boooring." Kristine moaned.

"Hey, we like what we like." Harold said, offended. "Just like your passion for chocolate."

"Yum!" Kristen grinned.

Shade and Sabrina joined us. "You're done eating?" I asked. Both of them nodded their heads.

I was just about to say something when the speakers at school cut me off. Great, what announcement this time? I wondered. Hopefully it doesn't concern us. There are a couple of ways these announcements go, usually it's always for calling all those students who broke a couple of rules to be sent to the discipline room. The next one will just be regular announcements, like reminding us about the upcoming day or something. Or...

"All of this year's graduates, please gather in the main hall after school hours. Thank you." It was the principal's voice. I could have punched the whole table after hearing that. THAT was the or.

"What?" Kristine blurted out. "Can anyone repeat that for me?"

"All of this year's graduates aka us, need to gather in the main hall after school finishes." Sabrina replied.

"What for?!" Jessica asked.

"Exactly! If they are making us stay back again, urgh!" I groaned. "This year, we had to stay back in school for a bunch of times already!"

"I'm thinking it's because it's our last year here, the school's trying to get the graduation ceremony planned." Shade said.

"I don't care for some dumb ceremony!" I snapped. "It's just graduating, what's the big deal about it?! We still have to go to school next year, it's just not this school!"

"Here we go again..." Eliza rolled her eyes.

"Well," Harold turned to Henry. "Looks like you three have to go back home first without us, again."

Jenna, Henry and Kristen nodded, then the bell rang. "That was fast." Shade muttered.

"Well, let's just get going." Kristine stood up. "We have a long day ahead of us, depending on how long the school will want us to stay for who knows what later."

I sighed as long as I could to let out my frustration. Anyway, what's my class now? And who's going with me for this class? "You going or what?" Sabrina tapped my shoulder.

"What?" I asked. "Oh, um, of course, class." Silly me, I forgot Sabrina was the only person I knew for this class. Even so, we wouldn't talk to each other. So yeah, it's basically just me for this class, all alone.

Minutes became hours, without even realising it, school was over for the day. But then I remembered I had to go to the main hall. I took my time, packing up my stuff. I hunched and headed to the main hall.
