Chapter 25: The labyrinth (8)

Eliza's POV

"Wait up!" Elijah panted "Seriously Eliza, we have been walking, running for ages!"

"It's only about 3 and a half hours! You call that ages?!" I exclaimed.

"Exactly! I'm hungry already!" Elijah grumbled.

"That's why we have to move quickly, for your empty stomach." I teased.

Elijah softly punched me, glaring. He did the same thing over and over again, freezing the whole path. Can't you just for once... Whatever, I said in my mind. I focused my mind on the traps awaiting us next. We have been through all sorts of stuff and I can't take in any more, to be honest. I never could have taken any of this in the first place!

Elijah had wasted a whole lot of time in the first trap. He just didn't want to believe me at that time. I could have literally froze him but I resisted. Oh why do I have such an annoying twin brother.

"Are we sure we are out of the carousel of confusion?" Elijah broke the silence. "We could still be in it without realizing it."

"I don't think so?" I guessed. "Besides, you have already froze the whole floor just now. We will know if we end up in the same place later.

"Hey look!" Elijah pointed and I turned to his direction. "A piece of paper." Elijah said.

"Just a piece of paper, whatever." I shrugged.

"No way, I'm looking at it. We have seen nothing except walls for this whole time!" Elijah took the paper down. "It's a note. A poem to be exact. Oh and... Uh, I'll just read it to you and you will know."

What lurks around
With a shadow as a cape?
What was that sound?
You will never escape!

Immediately, a loud, weird, unknown sound was heard after Elijah finished reading. I let out a scream but I quickly covered my mouth. "What was that?!" Elijah asked.

"Give me that!" I snatched the paper from him. "Hmm, lurks around, shadow, cape, sound, never escape? What?!"

"What lurks around with a shadow as a cape?" Elijah repeated.

"Pitch Black?" I guessed. "A shadow and a cape?"

"And what about what was that sound, we will never escape?!" Elijah asked.

"Well, from what I can recall a couple of seconds ago... It did sound like some sort of a scraping sound, or was it a cling sound?" I asked.

"You will never escape.. Horrifying! Will we really never escape?!" Elijah panicked.

"We will, no matter what!" I said firmly. "We will escape! Come on, let's just go faster. I'll allow you to do it."

"Really?! I get to skate in here?!" Elijah asked excitedly.

"Yeah, yeah, freeze this place so that we can skate and go faster." I rolled my eyes.

Elijah and I stomped the floor, the whole floor was nice and icy blue, slippery too. I created a pair of ice skates for myself and Elijah. "Woo hoo!" Elijah went off without me.

"Wait!" I quickly caught up with him. I spotted another note and slowed down. After taking it down, I chased Elijah. I read it and skated at the same time. "Elijah! Hear this, I found another paper!" I shouted.

"Really?" Elijah turned around. I read it out loud.

No matter what you say...
No matter what you do...
It's lurking in the shadows...
It's coming to find you...

"Um... I don't see anything lurking in the shadows?" Elijah questioned, turning around looking.

"It's coming to find you. Something, or someone is hiding around here, looking for us. And I'm pretty sure it's Pitch Black." I replied.

"Well, this one doesn't rhyme compared to the first note." Elijah fished out the other note from his pocket. "But it is still a poem."

"No matter what we do? I find that very hard to believe." I crossed my arms.

"Eliza, just because we have ice powers doesn't mean we can do anything." Elijah said.

"True, true." I sighed.

"Wonder what these two notes mean? Is it trying to warn us not to continue?" Elijah asked.

"No way, we are not turning back. Not after everything we have been through. I don't care what the next trap is, we have to face it no matter what." I quickly said.

"Don't you know that a poem with four lines, compared to two, is considered as-"

"I don't wanna hear it." I cut in. "I don't have time to worry about how many lines a stupid poem has. We are stuck in a labyrinth and nobody's got that kind of time."

"Ok then." Elijah said cheekily. "Pitch is a writer?"

"Said who?" I asked.

"Well I'm just saying that he's the one that wrote these poems. Not too shabby if you asked me." Elijah beckoned.

"How can you even pay that much attention to the details of a poem?!" I pushed Elijah and he nearly lost his balance with his skates.

"So not cool sis." Elijah regained his balance and quickly skated far away from me. I rolled my eyes and chased after him.

I heard a loud bang. "Elijah?" I called out, worried. "You there?" There was no reply. I quickly searched for him. Oh, thank goodness. Elijah's all right, other that the fact that he fell down.

"Dang! Why is there a wall over here?!" Elijah grumbled as he stood up.

"Because you're supposed to make a left turn, silly." I helped him up. "No bruises, right?"

"I'm all good." Elijah replied. "Oh, look! Here's another note stuck on my arm."

"Ugh, not again." I groaned. "Well, here goes nothing."

Hear out my final advice,
You better watch your ice.
Go on, even if you have the courage,
It is nothing that you can manage.

"It is nothing we can manage?" Elijah read it.

"You better watch your ice?" I asked.

"Even if we have the courage? Of course we have the courage, right?" Elijah asked.

"Final advice huh? I guess that marks the end of these poems." I stated. "Now, let's go on. We have the courage we need."

Both of us nodded in agreement and skated off. I held on to Elijah's arm as we had many turns. I wasn't that good with sharp turns yet.

Suddenly, the floor disappeared. We fell to our deaths. Well, at least that what's I thought of. Both of our screams travelled everywhere. I just aimed below me and blasted as much snow as I could to break our fall. We slipped and came tumbling down.

"Well, what a slide!" Elijah laughed. "Nice thinking sis, you saved us."

"Don't celebrate too soon." I pointed my shaky finger.

"Looks like we got company, lots of company!" Elijah exclaimed.

A large army of black sand animals surrounded us. Elijah and I stood up and faced back to back.

"Let's kick some butts!" Elijah shouted and blasted some ice at a horse.

"Um... We have air and ground company now." I looked up, bats were flying towards us. I created an ice monster and it nicely attacked our enemies.

Trap number four, you're going down. I said in my mind.

I made all of the poems myself in chapter 24 and this chapter, hope they're good.
