Chapter 24: The labyrinth (7)
Kristine's POV
"I think I'm having a headache after that carousel of confusion." Kristen complained. "We had been walking in circles until we found another way out!"
"Just keep quiet and keep walking." I snapped.
"Kristine, I'm tired!" Kristen shouted.
"Well, so am I! Now quit it!" I shouted back.
"Lift me up please?" He begged.
"I'll fling you to the wall." I warned. Kristen kept quiet and walked. I did pity him a little, he went through a whole lot more than me facing these traps. Which, I don't want to bring it up.
"I wonder what's the next trap? Or have we finally reached the middle of the labyrinth? Oh please tell me that." Kristen asked.
"We've been through 3 traps already, although I don't think that's the end." I replied.
"Thanks a lot." Kristen sighed. "How uplifting."
"I just hope the rest are ok." I said and silently prayed.
"They'll be fine, I think. Harold and Henry got their dragons, Jessica and Jenna have their long hair that can do all sorts of stuff, Eliza and Elijah have ice powers, and we got telekinesis." Kristen listed out. "Just like our parents."
"Yeah." I took a deep breath. "Let's keep going."
"Have you ever thought this is because of Shade?" Kristen wondered out loud.
"Shade? What about him?" I asked, surprised.
"I don't know, it's just a thought." Kristen shrugged.
"I wonder how's Shade doing right now." I said.
"Getting information?" Kristen guessed. "Like a super spy."
"Probably." I smiled.
We continued to walk with high hopes. Let's just get through with all these traps then our parents will settle their business with Pitch and this problem will be all over. Kristen's grumbling was real annoying and I finally decided to levitate him. He levitated me as well but I didn't want to.
A piece of paper came flying down. "Kristine, catch that paper?" Kristen asked. "I found it on top here."
I grabbed hold of the paper. "What is it?" Kristen asked and I placed him down on the ground.
"Blood red ink?" I simply replied. On the paper had these words:
Continue walking if you dare,
If you do not care about who you are.
"Nice rhyming." Kristen said after reading it.
"Rhyming?! Seriously Kristen?" I crossed my arms.
"Well, what does it mean then? Is it trying to warn us not to continue walking?" Kristen asked.
"Continue walking if you dare, if you do not care about who you are." I repeated the words. "If you do not care about who you are? What does that mean?"
"Something like, you are willing to risk everything, no matter who you are?" Kristen suggested.
"Maybe?" I raised a brow. "Hey look, there's another paper over there." I hurriedly levitate it to us.
"My turn!" Kristen snatched the paper from me. I rolled my eyes, it's just a note for goodness sake!
Something will leave you in a daze,
You will be lost forever in the maze.
"I'd say, where can I learn poetry?!" Kristen excitedly asked.
"Kristen!" I slapped his face, hoping to get some sense into him.
"What?! It rhymes!" Kristen said.
"So?! We're in a labyrinth and all you can think of is poetry?!" I shouted.
"Ok, ok, what does this mean then?" Kristen pointed at the note.
"Figure it out!" I glared at him.
"What is this something that will leave you in a daze? You will be lost forever in the maze?!" Kristen asked. "What?! I don't wanna be lost forever in the daze! Um I mean, maze!"
"Hmm... Something will leaving you in a daze... A daze? Something will leave us confused? Stunned? We can't react properly?" I wondered.
"What will happen?" Kristen shrieked.
"Just, get going." I sighed.
Kristen squeezed my hand tight, shivering and walking at the same time. He suddenly screamed. "What is it?" I turned to him.
"Th-There's an-ano-another no-not-note..." His finger pointing to the wall, shaking.
I snatched down the piece of paper. "Should I read it?" I asked.
"No. Yes, might as well." Kristen croaked in fear.
A few more steps, three, two, or one,
You will be in the danger zone.
No matter how many times you ask how,
There's no turning back now.
"I don't wanna walk any more!" Kristen shouted, turned around and ran. I levitate him back to my side.
"Kristen," I looked sternly at him. "If you don't wanna get out of here, you can just run whole I, continue to find the centre of this labyrinth. Go ahead, run!"
Kristen quickly shook his head. "I'm going with you, I'm going with you."
I held his hand and took another step forward. The floor suddenly disappeared and both of us fell down. We screamed at the top of our lungs. Both Kristen and I levitate each other from injuring ourselves from the fall. I looked back up, the hole that we fell in had disappeared.
"Am I still alive?!" Kristen asked.
"Yes you are you maniac." I shook him violently.
"I'm gonna die anyway." Kristen said dramatically.
"Idiot. What will mom and dad say about you when they see you in a state like this." I crossed my arms.
"Well, unless if we find a way out, mom and dad will never see me ever again!" Kristen snapped.
"You are crazy and- holy cow!" I shouted. "Lift me up Kristen, quick!"
"What are you- OMG! Gotcha!" Kristen exclaimed. I levitate Kristen as high as possible and he did the same thing. "Animals... Horses? Made from nightmare sand!" Kristen yelled.
"Trap number four!" I yelled back. "How do we get ride of them?! There's like a hundred, a thousand-"
"A whole army!" Kristen cut in.
"Find a way out of here!" I shouted.
"But Kristine, there is no way out of here! Look, when we fell, the walls made the room smaller!" Kristen exclaimed.
Black bats appeared out of nowhere, attacking me and Kristen. I was overwhelmed and accidentally dropped Kristen. I fell down almost instantly as well.
"Kristen!" "Kristine!" Both of us shouted.
We landed in the middle of the horde. "S-Stay back!" I stammered. Kristen fainted. Great, just great. I levitated one of the horses and flung it at the rest. They disintegrated into black sand.
"Wake up Kristen, please!" I shook him and fought on the rest of the army. "Get back!" I got the bats to somehow attack the horses, but only for a few seconds. I channeled the bats to the horses, confusing both sides at the same time. I aimed a kick at a horse.
"HELLO HEAVEN!" Kristen's voice echoed. I kicked him as well.
"Snap out of it! You're no where near heaven!" I shouted. "What is it with you and heaven?! Are you that willing to die?!"
"Kristine!" Kristen exclaimed, surprised.
"You're a disgrace." I rolled my eyes. "A horrible disappointment. Now get yourself in the zone and help me!"
"Fine!" He snapped. One by one, horses and bats tumbled down.
"Let's do this." I said firmly.
