Chapter 22: The labyrinth (5)
Jessica's POV
"Do not even talk about it again!" I shouted at Jenna.
"But sis, you said your worst nightmare was... " Jenna didn't finish and burst out laughing again.
"It was NOT funny!" I snapped.
"It was all right, remember back at trap number one-"
"Enough!" I cut in. "What's important is that we get to the middle of this labyrinth and regroup."
"Jess, we have already been walking for like so long. Don't you think that this labyrinth is playing tricks on us?" Jenna asked.
"What labyrinth in the world doesn't play tricks?" I crossed my arms.
Jenna kept quiet and untied her hair. I looked at her weirdly as she continued to walk with all of her hair on the floor. "Are you trying to make your hair dirty?" I finally asked.
"Well my hair might not be that long, but I just wanna make sure that we aren't going in circles. Think about it, all we have been doing is going straight and turning left! There was no right turn." Jenna explained.
"Good point." I smiled at her and walked. I glanced at my watch. We've been in this labyrinth for around 2 to 3 hours already! When can we get out of here?!
"Light up the place? It's too spooky." Jenna begged. I nodded at her and sang. The hallway was super bright.
We turned left and left and left again. "Is there no other way than following the trail?" I asked, frustrated.
"Well, there is no other trail." Jenna replied. "We might as well just keep following until we reach another crossroad."
"I don't wanna be stuck here forever." I said.
"Don't worry, we won't." Jenna patted my back.
Minutes later I saw something. "Jen, stay here." I told her. I walked towards it and saw it was... Hair? Wait a minute, isn't this Jenna's hair? "Jenna, can you come here?"
As Jenna walked to me, the hair on the floor dragged further away from me. "This is your hair!" I exclaimed.
"Great, we have been walking in circles!" Jenna grumbled. "And I was starting to believe we weren't, I was so wrong."
"We have to find another way! If we keep following the trail, we're just ending up in the same place." I stated.
"Check the walls!" Jenna suggested. "Maybe it's like those cartoons we watched before, you press some sort of secret button on the wall."
"Jen, it's a cartoon!" I snapped.
"Just give it a try! Ok, we will keep walking on this path, you take the right wall and I'll take the left. Maybe we can find something to help! Just feel your fingers on the wall."
"Ok fine." I sighed.
Jenna's POV
I felt like I was one of the characters in the TV show I watch, and it does feel kinda amazing. I examined these black walls surrounding us and carefully touched them. They're walls, there's no harm in touching them right?
"Jenna, what if we don't find this, secret passage your talking about?" Jessica asked.
"We will just have to keep trying." I replied. "Don't worry, I'm sure we will find it!"
"This is trap number three, isn't it?" Jessica guessed.
"I think it is. But it's nothing we can't handle!" I smiled.
I ran my fingers on the walls. They were like hard concrete walls, but just made from black sand. Well, magic sand.
"Gee-AHHHH!" Jessica screamed.
"WHAT?!" I shouted.
"Spiders!" She backed away from the wall.
"Oh Jess..." I sighed in disappointment. "Seriously, they're just insects!"
"I am NOT touching the wall any longer!" Jessica yelled.
"Fine, if you don't want to get out of this maze, you can stop touching the wall." I crossed my arms. "You wanna stay in here forever?"
"Of course not!" Jessica snapped.
"Then muster up your courage, and touch the wall, and find a secret passage!" I said. "You're older than me for goodness sake!"
I ignored Jessica and continued walking. Come on, come on! Won't there just be a simple button or something?! "Ouch!" Jessica broke the silence.
"Not again sis, what is it?" I asked, without looking at her.
"See for yourself!" She replied. "Look! My hair got caught in this, thing! Is this what we're looking for?"
I turned around and looked. Jessica's hair got caught in a... Handle? I don't know, it looked like a handle. Whatever. I got her hair out of it and pulled the handle.
A small part of the wall came crashing down. "All right!" I cheered. "Well done Jess."
Jessica nervously chuckled and I stepped over the broken pieces of the wall. "Well, here we are? Wait, where are we now?" I asked.
"Still lost in the labyrinth." Jessica simply replied.
"Oh right, thanks a lot." I sighed. "What's this?" I picked up a piece of paper. "Not again, I'm fed up with reading what the traps are. Pitch is leaving too many annoying stuff. Here, you read it." I passed it to Jessica. Jessica looked at it and read it out loud.
Well done if you can read this, you have made it through the carousel of confusion. Consider yourselves lucky that you haven't lost your minds trying to find the way out.
"Urgh!" I groaned in frustration. "That idiot! This is bullying! We're just kids!"
"I just hope that the rest of us will find their way out and not get stuck in the carousel of confusion." Jessica said softly.
"I believe they can do it." I smiled.
