Chapter 20: The labyrinth (3)
Hiccup's POV
"Well I'll never! Trap number one my foot!" Merida grumbled.
"Oh come on Mer, we managed to find out who the imposter was, at least." I comforted her.
"I know, but that means there will be trap number two, three, and so on." Merida sighed.
"We are ready." I said with confidence.
"You better be. I almost shot you with my arrow trying to find the imposter just now!"
"But you didn't. Luckily too."
Toothless gave me a nudge. "What is it bud?" I patted his head. "And please stop trying to blast the walls down, it won't work. So save your energy."
Toothless nodded and bounced me on his back. "Oh you wanna fly?" I asked. "OK then. Mer!" I helped her up. Toothless flew at full speed. Oh yeah, I said in my mind.
Eventually, Toothless slowed down and we decided to continue on foot. "Hic, what do you think the next trap will be?" Merida broke the silence.
"I don't know. Pitch could think of anything." I replied.
"That's the problem, I fear-"
My head began to hurt badly. I heard Merida screaming in pain. I blacked out.
Merida's POV
"That's the problem, I fear-" I started but then my head hurt a lot. It was horribly painful and I screamed in pain. The last thing I saw was Hiccup gripping his head tight then I passed out.
Hiccup's POV
I slowly opened my eyes. Wait a minute, this isn't the labyrinth! Where's Merida? Where's Toothless?! Where am I?
I walked around this mysterious place, wondering at the same time, is this the second trap that Pitch mentioned? A dragon appeared out of nowhere in front of me. And he did not seem friendly.
"Uh... " I didn't know what to say. I couldn't tell what species this dragon was! Is he a new one?
A buff man walked to me from behind that particular dragon. I froze. "D-Drago?" I blurted out. "But, you're dead!"
"Ah, Hiccup Haddock, my fine enemy." Drago greeted. "I'm alive and kicking as you can see."
"But, how?!" I asked. "I saw you getting eaten with my own eyes!"
"I'm just lucky." Drago scoffed. I took a closer look at him. Well, he's still missing an arm, like usual.
"What are you doing here then?" I asked.
"I'm here to have revenge. You see this dragon over here? This is the only dragon stronger than the Night Fury, and it's pretty much extinct already." Drago replied.
"O...K?" I stated. "What's it's name?"
"None of your business." Drago snapped. "You need not to know." Drago sat on the dragon and looked at me sternly. "If I were you, I'll start running.. I'll give you a 10 second head start since your dragon ain't here."
I gulped and panicked. I looked around at my surroundings. It looked like forest. With luck, I might be able to camouflage myself or something in this thick green. I am wearing a green shirt anyway.
"5, 4, 3-" I ignored Drago and ran like mad. Toothless! Where are you? "Run run but you can't hide!" I heard Drago's voice.
Merida's POV
So I woke up in this mysterious place. It looked like a jungle. Where's Hiccup and Toothless? What happened to the labyrinth? "Hello?" I said loudly. No reply, not that you can expect one either.
I grabbed my bow and arrow, ready for anything. I took a couple of paces into the forest. I suddenly heard something wiggling in the bushes. I aimed my arrow at it as I walked towards it. Nothing, nothing was in there.
This time, I heard loud scratching. I turned around and saw a tree with a couple of scratch marks. I did not like this. It could be a tiger it a lion, whatever! I decided to climb this tree for some safety and to find out where I truly was.
I scanned the area on top of the tree. I could see a waterfall nearby. Say, why not I go there? All of a sudden, a bear came running. I let out a scream. I recognised it, I know that bear, Mor'du. It attacked my family before, but that was years ago! And I'm sure that it was already dead, what's it doing over here?!
Back in the time I was don't know how many years old, this bear was cursed when it attacked my family. It transformed my mother into a bear as well. It was the worst nightmare of my life, the only difference is that it was real. It gives me the shivers just thinking about that.
In panic, I shot off a couple of arrows at the bear. It growled loudly and tried to take down the tree I was on. I have to get away from this tree before it crumbles down! Since when have bears been that smart?! "S-Stay away!" I shouted at the bear.
I carefully walked on the branches, shivering. This tree could come down any second. I summoned all of my courage. This is it Merida, it's either jump or fall. I leaped over the tree and grabbed hold of another branch. Unfortunately the branch snapped and I fell. "OUCH!" I yelled, landing on a hard branch. "Hey, I'm still alive!" I laughed at myself.
The other tree I was on came crashing down. Mor'du came to this tree instead. "All right, let's see what you can do." I challenge it.
Hiccup's POV
"Oof!" I jumped into a thick bush, but it was prickly! I did my best to ignore the pain and keep quiet. Drago and his dragon flew right over me. Boy that felt good, at least he's not on my tail any more, for now.
After waiting for a while, I decided to come out. I quickly removed all the thorns stuck on me. Now, how do I get out of this place?! I was just about to stand up when a strong gush of wind pinned me down.
"And where do you think you're going?" It was Drago, he landed with his dragon.
"Y-You..." I stammered.
"Did you think you could hide?" Drago laughed. "I saw you, hiding in there."
"What do you want from me?!" I shouted.
"I'll let you figure that out yourself since you're still so clueless." Drago smirked and his dragon blasted at me.
Again, I ran. I need some sort of weapon right now. Is there nothing I can use in this forest?! Twigs, branches and pebbles, yeah nothing. I heard a soft moan. I ran to the direction of that sound.
"Oh you poor little thing." I stroked it. It was a small little dragon. "You're hurt." I looked at its wings. It tackled me to the ground. "Hey, hey, stop it!" I giggled. "Stop, you're tickling me!" I begged.
It finally stopped and smiled at me. "Hmm, I wonder what species you are?" I wondered out loud. "Oh wait, you're the... Cloudjumper, aren't you? Dang, I don't have my notebook with me."
The Cloudjumper smiled widely at me and picked me up in its mouth. "Hey!" I shouted. "What are you doing?" It started to fly, with me in its mouth. Oh, is it trying to save me? Boy this Cloudjumper is fast! Drago and his dragon was soon out of my sight.
Merida's POV
"Take that! And that!" I yelled, letting loose of my arrows. All 4 of them hit the bear's legs. It growled in pain, I think. I aimed another into its mouth. The bear swallowed it on the spot. Yuck, I said in my mind. I shot another two into its eyes.
So... Are there any more body parts that I missed? My plan was just to hit everywhere with my arrows. Mor'du ran around, blinded and it crashed into a tree. It disappeared into thin air.
My surroundings immediately changed. From the forest, it changed back to the labyrinth. Toothless was right in front of me. "Toothless!" I exclaimed. "Wait, where's Hiccup?"
It was only me and Toothless, Hiccup was nowhere to be found.
Hiccup's POV
The Cloudjumper brought me into a tent. A sword was laying on the floor. The dragon beckoned its head at it. "Do you want me to take it?" I asked. The Cloudjumper just picked up the sword and placed it in front of me.
I held and examined it. There was a small button on the handle of the sword and I pressed it. Poof! The sword was on fire! "WOW!" I exclaimed. "This sword is awesome!"
The Cloudjumper got me on top of its back and flew off. "Um where are we going?" I asked it. Soon I was face to face with Drago. Oh crap, I said in my mind. I hope the sword can help?
Drago's dragon blasted me. I instantly fell down and landed like a sack of potatoes. Drago jumped down from his dragon. "One on one." He said.
"Uh... Ok." I said in doubt. "Are you sure?"
"No time for words." Drago came charging at me with his long pole/hook. I dodged his attacks with my sword. I set his clothes on fire and burst out laughing.
After Drago put out the fire, he burst out with fury. "I will kill you!"
"Not if I kill you first!" I challenged. I ran around him with a ring of fire. Drago threw his pole at me which hit me in the stomach. "Why you..."
I quickly ran and hid behind some trees. I sprinted to the tree just behind Drago. "Come out, come out, you little rat." Drago walked towards the tree I hid earlier. I smirked and aimed my sword at him. I lighted it up and charged at him.
The sword ran right through him. There was blood everywhere. Eww, I said in my mind. Drago collapsed on the floor and disappeared. All the trees vanished. It was all black. I found myself back in the labyrinth.
"Hiccup!" Merida ran to me and gave me a hug. "Oh I was so worried about you!"
"Great, we're right back where we were." I sighed. "That was trap number two, wasn't it?"
"Which was? I think my worst nightmare just came true." Merida said.
"That's it wasn't it? This trap was to make our worst nightmares come true? Wow, I didn't know Drago was my worst nightmare." I giggled. "What was yours?"
"M-M-Mor'du. The ancient bear that attacked my family when I was little." Merida replied.
"Well, what's important is that we managed to survive the trap. Let's continue." I stated.
