Chapter 16: Busted
Sabrina's POV
I silently walked to Shade's room. I placed my ear at the door and listened. That's right, I'm spying on my own brother. I can't trust him at all.
Father has been mad, like really mad that his trap didn't work. I too was curious. How did his targets not fall into the trap? The net he made cannot be seen by the naked eye to be honest. Did these two targets know? Or did they take another road back home? That would be too much of a coincidence. All suspicions go on Shade now.
Back to now, I listened carefully. I could hear Shade's voice. "Ha! Take that, Pitch! That dumb trap you made was nothing!" Shade said and laughed. "Boy, thank goodness Jessica and Jenna didn't fall into it."
I was stunned. The names that Shade said, those two were the friends of his that I met before. Jessica and Jenna? Aren't those two the long golden hair girls? Were those two the targets? Anyway, I quickly listened again while my mind debated.
"I do hope that Jessica and Jenna don't step out of their houses. It's too risky, the trap could still be there. I'm sure they know how to protect themselves. I wish I could warn all of them more but there's no school tomorrow. If I were to go to their houses, it would raise suspicion from Pitch and Sabrina. Besides, Jack Frost still doesn't believe me. I just don't understand, just because I'm the son of your enemy, doesn't mean I'm as evil or bad as your enemy! I warned all of you the dangers that are coming, why can you believe me? I told them that Pitch is after them, laying a trap for Jessica and Jenna... I got them to take precautions!" Shade exclaimed.
Shade, you just got ridiculously busted. I said in my mind. So no doubt, my brother is helping the other side. He was too good anyway. I can't believe it, my brother might have been good, but too good. He's helping the enemy!
I kicked open the door. I had heard enough. "Sabrina!" A surprised Shade said. "Are you in your bad moods again? You already kicked down my door once."
"I'm in a bad mood all right." I said angrily. "Would you like to know the reason?"
"Nah, that's your problem. I have no interest." Shade shook his head.
"It's because of YOU!" I shouted. "You're the reason I'm mad."
"Me?! What did I ever do to you?!" Shade asked.
"Drop the act already Shade. Because you, just got busted." I crossed my arms.
"What did I do?!" Shade asked again.
"Stop playing the innocent. I heard everything that you said." I looked at him sternly.
Shade's face immediately changed. "Y-You heard it all?" He stammered. I nodded my head.
"All this time, you were helping the enemy. You warned them all. No wonder the trap didn't work, because you let the cat out of the bag!"
"Yeah, so?! I couldn't bear to see my friends suffer!"
"Who needs friends?!"
"Well maybe you don't need! But someday, you will regret not making any friends!"
"What have you told the enemy?!"
"Why do you need to know?!"
"SHADE. You better tell, or else..."
"Or else what?"
I snapped at blasted my sand at him at max. He was choking. "Don't worry, if you don't want to tell, father will know eventually." I grinned.
"NO! Don't tell Pitch!" Shade shouted.
"Too late brother. I will tell him no matter what. I seriously can't believe you Shade, I knew I couldn't trust you. You lied to me about your targets. Short black hair huh? More like long golden hair. Sluts."
"Their names are Jessica and Jenna!"
"I don't care what names. You, just got busted."
"I don't care! At least I could protect my friends from people like you and Pitch! They already know that Pitch is after them. They will be ready for you!"
"Whatever. I'll see what father says when he sees you in this state. You're a disgrace, Shade." I said and began to walk out. I got blasted at the back.
"You think it's that easy?!" Shade shouted and blasted more sand at me. "I won't let you harm my friends!"
"Oh you are so on." I said and created some animals with my sand.
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" A piercing voice echoed the room. It was father. Shade and I gasped.
I was just about to speak when father cut me off. "You don't have to explain. None of you have to. Shade, how dare you."
"How dare I? I was just doing the right thing." Shade snapped.
"Why you little-"
Father cut me off again. "Enough. Shade, after what you have...Done."
"I don't care!" Shade cut in. "I will do whatever it takes to protect my friends from people like you!"
"How much do you even care about these friends?!" I shouted.
"More than ever." Shade crossed his arms. "Eliza, Elijah, Harold, Henry, Kristine, Kristen-"
"Yeah, yeah, Jessica and Jenna." I continued. "What's so great about them?"
"Let's see..." Shade started to list out. "They're good, friendly, amazing powers?"
"Lame." I scoffed.
Father grabbed hold of Shade and sighed. "Oh Shade, if only you were like your sister, none of this would have happened."
"So then you could kill the innocent?" Shade asked. "All of them are innocent, you're the one who's doing wrong."
"Whatever." Father snapped. "I didn't want to have to do this to you..." The top of Shade's head began to surround with nightmare sand. Shade started to scream in pain. I suddenly understood everything. Father is starting to take control of his mind, his body, everything!
"F-Father! Stop! You'll kill him!" I blurted out. Wait, did I just say that? Did I.... It sounded like I cared about Shade. But, I never cared about Shade! Then, why am I saying all of this?! "Shade!" I called out in desperation. Sabrina, what is wrong with you?! Why are you saying stuff like this?!
"Shut up Sabrina." Father said as Shade continued to scream and shout.
"But... You're hurting him!" I shouted. "You could kill him by doing this. Please, stop!"
"Shut up or you will be like him! No one begs from Pitch Black!" Father shouted back.
After quite a while of shouting, screaming and stuff, father finally stopped and Shade collapsed. "Done." Father said and walked out. "He will trouble us no more."
I ran to Shade. "Shade? Shade!" I shook him. Shade slowly opened his eyes. However, Shade's eyes were no longer golden, they were blood red. "Shade?" I asked in doubt. Shade kept quiet. "Talk to me!" I snapped. Shade pushed me away and stood up. I looked at him and stood up. I grabbed him and shook him violently.
"SHADE!" I shouted. "Say a word!" Shade fell silent. What happened to you, Shade? Why won't you talk to me?! Have you really been taken control by father? "Shade, please." I begged, almost bursting into tears. I'm just not myself right now but I don't care.
Shade's eyes began to change. It changed back to his old golden eyes. "Shade?" I asked.
"S-Sabrina?" Shade finally said a word. I gave him a hug. I don't believe it, I actually hugged him. "I... Never... Knew you... Cared. Never seen you.... So soft..." Shade said and I did a silly smile. "Hard... to take... Control... Of myself... Other me is very... Strong..."
"Oh Shade..." I sighed. "I will try to return you to your normal self. But, I do not know how to yet. Don't worry Shade, I will get you back."
Shade smiled back. His smile immediately disappeared. I realized that his eyes were back to blood red. Shade pushed me aside and walked out. I looked at him and sighed. Shade, wait for me, I will get you back.
