Chapter 10: Curiosity
Sabrina's POV
I'm curious with Shade. I doubt if he can even succeed in his mission. I looked all around at school all right and I didn't find anyone that fit the description that he mentioned. Moreover that he didn't even look like he was searching for the people he needed to spy on in school.
Why was Shade given that mission and not me? I far better than him. Shade's nothing but a soft boy, he's useless in my opinion. I should have been the one to spy on people. I enjoy spying, unlike Shade.
And where is he right now?! Is he still playing with that bunch of stupid kids? I don't even know why they wanna invite Shade and why he accepted it. What's so fun about them?
"Sabrina." A voice broke my concentration.
"Yeah father?" I asked. "Is Shade back yet?"
"Well obviously no." Father replied. "That boy, playing?! I asked him to spy and he's playing?! How is Pitch Black going to have his revenge on Jack Frost if his son won't spy for him?!"
"Why wasn't I given the mission?!" I asked angrily.
"Sabrina, I have my reasons. It is because Shade likes to mix around with other people. He likes to make friends and he can immediately be the perfect spy. His softness can be put to use for this situation, that's why I chose Shade to do it." Father explained.
"Then in the least, what can I do?! Shade isn't spying at all, he's playing instead!" I shouted.
"Well... Maybe he took the offer to play so he can expand his field of search. He could ask those new friends of his if they know his targets on who to spy." Father reasoned.
"Is Shade that smart enough to do that?" I asked, unimpressed.
"Sabrina, you are just gonna have to trust your brother." Father replied.
I never trusted him, I said in my mind. "Fine." I simply said and walked out. I walked around this neighbourhood. It's about time I find out what kind of people live here. Unfortunately this road is full of abandoned houses, I'll be needing to go to another road.
I looked around, this road of abandoned houses is good as well, I can use my powers freely. I decorated two abandoned houses all in black. The walls, the gates, even the garden. I smiled slyly as I continued walking.
"Jack!" A voice echoed. I quickly turned around, searching for the voice. Could this name Jack that I heard be the enemy of my father, Jack Frost? If so, luck is on my side, I managed to find Jack Frost before Shade.
Then again, I just heard the word Jack. There are many people named Jack in the world. I have to find that voice. I ran, looking everywhere.
"Ok, ok, bye!" Another voice said. I recognised that voice, Shade? Shade came walking out of a house and saw me. "Hey!"
I waved a small hi to him without saying a word. "Were you sent here?" Shade asked. I shook my head. "Then?" Shade asked again.
"I was just bored." I replied. "I came out for a walk. You? Finished playing with your friends?"
"Yeah, I'm going home." Shade said.
"What about your mission? Found the people you have to spy?" I crossed my arms.
"Er... No, not yet. They were harder to spot than I thought." Shade replied. "Did you find them by any chance?"
"If you could just be a little more descriptive, I would have found them long ago." I snapped. "You gave me a useless description on how these people looked."
"I already said, that's all that I know!" Shade shouted. "They have long black hair, a little plump, and an average height."
"Excuse me?" I asked in disbelief.
"What?" Shade asked.
"Describe them again." I said.
"They have long black hair, a little plump, and an average height." Shade repeated.
"You're lying!" I shouted.
"What?!" Shade asked.
"You lied! Yesterday, you said they had SHORT black hair, a little plump and they are tall!" I snapped.
"Oh... I remembered wrong then." Shade giggled. "Sorry."
Something was not right. Shade is playing tricks, I just know it. But why must he lie? Does he just not want me to help him in the mission, or is he hiding something? "Seriously Shade? You're a disappointment. If you can't even remember how your targets look like, how are you gonna accomplish your mission?!" I asked.
"Look, I'm sorry! Just... A slip of the tongue and forgetfulness." Shade stated.
"I'm so gonna complain this to father, you aren't worthy of this mission." I said sternly.
"No!" Shade blurted out. "Please, Sabrina, just give me one more chance and I swear, I will make up for my mistake."
Shade's acting weird. Why is he so anxious? He was totally panicking when I said I was gonna complain. Something is definitely wrong here. "Why the sudden rush?" I giggled softly.
"Sudden rush?" Shade repeated. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, why did you talk so quickly when I said I was going to complain to father?" I asked.
"I don't know?" Shade replied. "Oh wait, it's just called, quick thinking. Impressed?"
"No." I crossed my arms. "Not impressed at all, now get your butt back home."
"Ok, ok, come on." Shade grabbed my arm and started walking. I rolled my eyes and walked along with him. Whatever you're hiding Shade, I will find out. Don't think you can hide that something forever.
