Chapter 46: Date (2)

Merida's POV

"Come on Hiccup, quickly!" I dragged Hiccup along to the archery field. I could hardly wait! "Wait up! You're too fast!" Hiccup complained. We arrived at the field and I quickly took a bow and a few arrows. I took for Hiccup as well.

"Look Mer, I don't know how to....shoot." Hiccup said, holding the bow.

"It's simple, just watch!" I said as I aimed my arrow at the target. I let go of it, and it hit right on the target. "There, see?"

"Well...I'll give it a try?" Hiccup said as he placed his arrow. He was struggling with it because he couldn't keep the arrow in a fixed position. He let go of it, it was way off the mark. One more inch and it wouldn't even have hit the board.

"It's hard!" Hiccup groaned.

"Just practice." I giggled as I took out another arrow. I let go of it, and it hit the target again. I smiled, pleased with myself.

I had learned archery since young. My dad gave me an archery set to me on my sixth birthday. (That's real in the movie) I had mastered archery ever since. Despite my mother doesn't agree with all this, my dad has managed to sweet talk her. My mom always wants me to behave like a princess, no this no that, so annoying! Everyday at home she tries to teach me so called 'proper manners', which I pretty much know already, I just don't use it, haha. My mom would always say "A lady does not..." "A lady does not..." "A lady does not..." Over and over again when I don't do something right with 'manners'. She's also the peacemaker in the house, compared to my dad who likes to argue with people.

I glanced at Hiccup, still struggling. His archers were still far from target. After I shot off a couple more arrows, I decided to go help Hiccup. "There, like this." I fixed his arrow and bow position. "Now, look at the target, relax, and release it." I said.

Hiccup nodded at me, and let go of his arrow. It didn't hit the target, but it was much better than the rest of his arrows. "You've improved." I patted his back. "It's still kinda hard." He complained.

"I'll help you until you hit that target." I smiled at him.

"Thanks Mer." Hiccup said, smiling back at me.

I took hold of Hiccup's arms, making sure that everything was in the right place. I positioned his arrow, took one more look, and took a step back, giving him the thumbs-up sign. He pulled his arrow back, and it shot off. "Close!" I said, looking at the board. "Woo hoo!" Hiccup cheered.

So time went on and on, me helping Hiccup. It was improving, his arrows are slowly getting nearer to the red target. "Wait Mer, I wanna try it myself." Hiccup said. "Ok." I said as Hiccup did everything. He took a deep breath, and he shot off his arrow. I looked at the board and cheered, I ran to hug him. "You did it! You did it!" I shrieked. Hiccup looked at the board in joy, his arrow hit right on the target!

"I can't believe I did it!" Hiccup yelled. He began to jump around like mad. I laughed and laughed at him. "Chill down, Hiccup!" I begged him, still laughing.

He eventually stopped, he came running to hug me again. "Thank you, thank you so much for helping Mer!" He said and kissed me on the cheek. "Hic! You're squeezing me out of my breath!" I chuckled. "Oops!" He said as he let go of me.

"I wanna do it again!" Hiccup said excitedly as he grabbed his bow and arrow. "Come on Mer, do it with me?" He grinned. I stood beside him with my bow and arrow. "Together?" I asked and Hic nodded. We took our positions. "One, two, three!" I chanted and we both let go of our arrows at the same time. Both of our arrows hit the target. "Yes!" We gave each other a high-five.

"I'm getting the hang of this, I'm so pumped!" Hiccup exclaimed.

"You're already a master at this." I said.

"Not as good as you." He teased.

"Let's take a break." I said as I walked to the bench. Hiccup followed me from behind. We sipped on our bottles of water as we sat down. "So, how ye likin' archery?" I asked.

"It was AWESOME!" Hiccup replied loudly. "I can't wait to have another go at it!"

I smiled at him. Back when I just learned archery, I never wanted to stop doing it, over and over again. So yeah, I understand how Hiccup feels.

"I have got to do it again." Hiccup excitedly said as he got up. He shot of a few more arrows, some did not hit the target, but they were very close. I clapped and cheered at him. He looked at me and smiled. Did a quick bow, and continued.

After a few minutes, he came up to me. "This calls for a celebration!" He exclaimed. He held my hand and asked me, "So, got anything in mind?" He stared at me in the eye. I could feel my cheeks burning. "You choose, after all, you are the one that just learned archery today." I blushed.

"I know somewhere, but I can't tell you." Hiccup said in a cheeky tone.

"Surprise me." I challenged.

"No problem, let's go, now." He said as he dragged me away.
