Chapter 29: Exchange students

Elsa's POV

The next morning, Punzie, Eugene, Merida and Hiccup already gathered to congrats me and Jack on being a couple again. "I have the best girl in the world to be my girlfriend." Jack announced proudly as he wrapped his arm around me.

"This is so awesome!" Punzie squealed. "Anna can finally stop worrying too."

"Nice job buddy, I knew you could do it!" Eugene patted Jack on the back.

"So, what does it feel like to be a couple, again?" Merida asked excitedly.

"It's.... Great." I just smiled. I didn't have any idea to describe this feeling.

We started to walk to our class. We took our seats and I sat beside Jack. Punzie sat beside Eugene and Hiccup sat with Merida. Jack was busy staring at me non stop that got me a little annoyed. We might be a couple but no need to stare like that, right? Pitch never really did any of this. The most is that he would look at me but not stare as long as Jack. Then again, Jack is special.

Our teacher came in, followed by the principal behind him. "The principal's here too? That means someone in the class is in big trouble." Jack blurted out. I nodded in agreement with him.

"Now then," Our principal started. "Today we have a very special surprise. Our college will be having some exchange students. Not one, two, three, but four exchange students!"

Immediately, the whole class started talking and gossiping. "Who do you think they are?" I asked Jack.

"Usually exchange students are just from different schools, no big deal." Jack shrugged.

Punzie raised her hand and stood up. "Where are the four exchange students from?" She asked.

"They are from another country, Malaysia." Our principal replied.

"Oh wow, another country?!"

"Malaysia?!"

"Where is Malaysia?"

Voices started to spread every where. Exchange students from another country? That sounds really exciting! Although I do have to ask, where is Malaysia? I need to study the world map more next time.

"Calm down, students. Now, I would like all of you to give a warm welcome to these new students when they arrive." Our teacher, Mr Peter said.

Soon, our principal went out and came back with four people. Two boys and two girls stood in front of the class. I looked closer at those four.

One of the girls had a dark brown colour skin and had her hair tied in two ponytails. The other girl, well, how do I even say it? She seemed to have some cloth wrapped around her head. Only her face was visible. She wore long sleeved clothing and a really long skirt I think.

For the two boys, there wasn't much to describe them. One of the boys was carrying a sling bag while the other boy had a....Measuring tape?! Around his neck.

"Welcome!" Our principal greeted them. "Welcome to our school."

"Thank you." The four replied in unison.

"Please, introduce yourselves." Mr Peter said.

The girl with two ponytails started first. "Hello everyone, my name is Anusha, I am from Malaysia, like the rest of us."

"Is that in China?" Someone asked.

"No, no it's not." Anusha chuckled. "Well, do you know where Singapore is?"

"Yes." Most of us replied, including me.

"Well, Malaysia is very near to Singapore." Anusha replied.

Next, the other girl said. "Hi everybody! My name is Nurul Farhani, I just got transferred to this school for the exchange student program. You can call me Hani."

"Honey? As in honey bee?" Eugene stood up.

"No! H-A-N-I. Not honey!" She replied, giggling.

"Hello, my name is Mazlee!" The boy with a measuring tape around his neck introduced himself.

Finally, the boy with a sling bag introduced himself. "Hello everyone, my name is See Yew Soon! You can call me SYS!"

"See you soon? You just arrived and you're already saying goodbye?" Jack suddenly stood up and asked.

"No, not that! My name is See Yew Soon! Y-E-W not you!" He replied.

What a weird name, I thought. Anusha, Hani, Mazlee, and See Yew Soon. These are some really odd names. But then again, they are from different countries, every country is different in every way.

"Would anyone else like to know more about our new students?" Our principal spoke up.

"Can I know why uh... Hani, why are you dressed like this? Everyone can only see your face!" One of the students stood up.

"Oh, well you see, for Malaysia, all the Malay girls have to wear this. This is called a tudung. It is a must for all Malay girls to wear it." Hani explained.

"Then, why isn't Anusha wearing it?" Merida asked.

"I am an Indian, not a Malay." Anusha replied.

"I am a Malay too but SYS is a Chinese." Mazlee said.

"Wait, wait, wait, where did you say you're from again?" Eugene asked.

"Malaysia." They replied in unison.

"So in Malaysia there is, Malay, Chinese and Indian?" Eugene asked in confusion.

"Yes." See Yew Soon replied. "We have Christians too in Malaysia."

"That's.... A lot of different stuff." Eugene said as he sat back down.

"Ok that will be all. Please, have a seat." Our principal pointed to a few empty seats. "I would like all of you to strike a bond with your new friends." With that, he walked out.

Many students quickly surrounded the new exchange students, each with different questions. "They're from Malaysia, isn't that exciting?!" Punzie squealed. All of us looked at each other and nodded. "I wonder how long they are staying here?" Hiccup asked. "Let's just ask them later." Merida suggested.

"Good idea." We all said at the same time.

Just thought I throw in some information about other countries ;) Now, if you don't understand some of the words, it's ok since its not English but it's malay. All the Malay words will be in italic to avoid confusion. The names of the students were picked from a comedy TV show that I found.
