Jellie's Return Home
A/N: Wow, I did not re-read this for editing at all before I posted it. Oh, well. I'm leaving it how it is. You're just gonna have to deal with it. Except for that one typo, that was embarrassing as hell. I need to get better at remembering to delete things all the way before rewording them.
Jellie was sitting in the void, her recently gifted cloak keeping her warm despite it's low temperature. Sitting besides her was her guide for this trip, someone who looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place.
After all, most of their face was covered by a white mask with a weird symbol on it, so she didn't have many clues to go on.
But she could tell one thing for sure; they weren't Scar.
The guide continued slowly petting her, their head facing her. Jellie couldn't see their eyes, but assumed they were looking at her. This... Thing didn't really show much emotion, which is how she knew that this wasn't her owner.
She saw them smile at her occasionally, but that was it. They didn't talk very much either, which was one of the things throwing her off as to why they were familiar. Most of the people she knew talked quite a bit.
Jellie meowed at the guide, to which they responded by picking her up, holding her close to their chest. They stood up and began walking again.
"You're almost there. You'll see him soon." They said, with a very familiar British accent. Where had Jellie heard that before? Scar wasn't British.
Jellie watched as the stars around her and the guide began clustering together, forming into the same shape on the guide's mask in front of them.
A bright white portal had opened up, and Jellie was excited. She had been waiting who knows how long to see Scar again. She missed him so much.
The guide walked through the portal, tightening their hold on Jellie as they were both fully submerged in a blinding white.
The white slowly began to fade, and Jellie could see some buildings and a road beginning to form. She immediately recognized the build to be her owner's, which just excited her more, knowing that she could see him any second.
The guide removed Jellie's cloak before setting her down next to a circular bed of flowers. Jellie meowed at them, grabbing their attention as they were studying the land.
Jellie meowed again, this time more loudly and insistent. Even though she was eager as ever to see her favorite person again, she also had questions that needed answers.
"Hm? What was that?" The guide responded.
"Meow!"
"You seem confused."
'Way to state the obvious' is what Jellie would've liked to say if she spoke English. She meowed at them again, taking the next best option.
"You noticed that this trip took longer, didn't you?"
"Meow!"
"Haha. Smart cat."
The guide smiled as they laughed. The laugh was also familiar, and that smile was especially familiar.
Where has Jellie seen this person before?
"I'm not sure how to tell you this in a way that cats would understand, but..." They began, going back to their emotionless state. "I'm kind of interested in your 'dad'."
Jellie didn't know how to respond to that.
"Is... Is that even the right word when it comes to cat-human relations? I'm not sure. Anyways, I'm sure you're familiar with the other me."
Other them? Is that why they're so familiar? But who could be this "other them"? And why would she know them already? So far, this thing has not helped Jellie in her confusion at all.
"Well, he quite likes your dad, and is very good friends with him. I didn't quite get it, even after watching him for a little while, but I noticed how much time he spends with you, and, well..."
"Meow?"
"Yeah. You're really special to him, I think. I thought that maybe if I could spend a bit of time with you, I might figure out what is so great about this Scar guy."
Jellie pushed her head up against their leg, a soft, questioning 'murrrp' emitting from her, as though to say, "Did you figure anything out?"
"That Scar guy really has an effect on people, and, well—" They paused as they looked down at the non-person. "—cats, it seems."
They crouched down to pet Jellie with a smile. "I enjoyed this."
They stood back up, going back to studying the build for a moment before hearing something in the distance and looking in it's direction.
It was Scar's voice.
"I've gotta go now. Goodbye, 'Jellie'."
When Jellie looked back at the guide, they were gone. She was confused again, but quickly distracted by the sound of her beloved owner's voice getting closer.
"–and then I should probably go buy some–"
"Meow!"
Scar stopped in his tracks when he heard Jellie's unforgettably adorable meow. "Wait, Jellie?!" He looked around frantically, the glimmer of hope in his eyes never seen brighter.
Jellie meowed at him as she ran towards him, Scar immediately grabbing a hold of her as she jumped into his arms. He gave her a comfortably tight hug as she purred.
"Oh, Jellie, I missed you so much, girl! I was starting to get worried that you got lost in the void and I'd never see you again!"
Jellie rubbed her head up against Scar's neck, a content little smile on her face.
She was very happy to be home.
"I have no idea how you managed to get here, but I'm so happy to see you again!"
Jellie wished she could English just so she could explain all she's been through in the past month. Knowing Scar, she knew he would probably be very interested in the story she has to tell.
The two heard fireworks going off in the distance, getting progressively closer before another person's voice could be heard as well.
"Hiiii Scaaar!" A familiar voice with a British accent called out before landing in front of the two.
"Hey, Grian, Look who I've got!" Scar said as he stretched his arms outward towards the man, happily displaying Jellie.
"What– oh, Jellie! You finally found her!" Grian said as Scar handed her off to him.
Grian! That's who she was being reminded of! Grian, of course, how could she forget?! She saw Grian all the time, and was very close with him. Why didn't she remember him earlier?
Come to think of it... Who was it that was reminding Jellie of Grian so much? What was she doing just now before she met Scar? How did she even get here?
"It's good to have you back, Jellie. Scar was falling apart without you."
"I was not!"
Ah, whatever. There are more important matters to attend to, after all, like making up for all this lost time!
"Meow!"
"See, Jellie knows I'm more stable than that!"
"I think that was more of a demand for food than an agreement."
"Oh, yeah, that's true. Come on, Jellie! I've been saving your favorite cat food for your return!"
It's so, so good to be home.
